Star vs The Forces of Evil: Brand New Day




It's late at night back on Earth, the Diaz household has been quite since Star left for Mewni to rescue a kidnapped Marco. Marco's parents wanted to help as well, but Star had been adamant that they not follow. However, they weren't about to just sit idly by while Marco and Star go up against who knows what. Eventually, they used Star's magical mirror to contact Star's parents and let them know what's going on; first however they accidentally ordered about a hundred pizza's to a different dimension as they had no idea how to operate Star's magic mirror phone properly. Voice commands, who would have known?

While missing all of the action they were relieved to find the kids alive and well on Mewni. Star and Marco looked haggard but beyond that in one piece, clearly they had gone through some sort of life threatening event or Marco wouldn't have hugged his parents as he did in front of Star and the King and Queen's soldiers as that's just not what a kid trying to look cool would do. For a short while it looked like Star may not even come home with them, this upset Marco but he didn't show it. As luck would have it however Star's mother allowed her to return with them, despite what happened to the wand but Marco figured they would cross that bridge when they come to it. All this, however, was in the past, in the present an all too familiar dimensional portal appeared in the empty living room of the Diaz house, slowly out walked a tired Star and Marco followed by his parents.

Marco hops on the sofa and just kicks back as Star takes her seat next to him, she keep staring at him, but Marco does not notice. Marco's parents yawn and look at the clock, it's almost 4 am and they both work in the morning. Mewni seemed to be a few hours ahead of SoCal time as it was already morning when they had left the castle. Marco's mother was grateful today is at least Sunday so school won't be an issue, but she and her husband both need some sleep.

"Rafael and I are gonna call it a night, hopping dimensions and riding an uncontrollable horse for 6 miles really takes a lot out of a person." Marco's mother said with a yawn.

"Angie you said you knew how to ride a horse, the kids and I must have chased you and that loco animal for an hour" Marco's father added also mid yawn.

"No I said I rode a pony once when I was a little girl, and it was tied to a fence post, and I panicked even then."

Star managed to giggle. "Aww that's so cute Mrs. Diaz"

"Haha guess it kinda was. Alright then I know you kids are properly still running high on adrenaline after what that Coffee guy/thing tried to do to you but don't stay up too long. School or no school today you both need your rest" Mrs. Diaz told Star and Marco in an understanding but forceful tone.

"Were good mom, we might just stay up the rest up the night now"

"Marco," Mr. Diaz said in a stern voice, Marco got the message.

Marco laughed nervously. "Just kidding dad, we will turn in too in a few minutes, right Star?"

Star nodded in compliance, she got the feeling for the time being Marco's parents were gonna be more strict with them. Who knows what they and her parents talked about when they weren't around, but seeing as how this was the closest both of them got to getting killed; it doesn't really surprise Star that they are now going to be more vigilant around them. For now she's just glad to be back on Earth, safe and sound with Marco and besides strict rules never stopped her from having fun before and with Marco at her side sneaking out for adventures will be even easier.

"Ok, good see that you do, goodnight Marco, goodnight Star," Mrs. Diaz told them as her and her husband headed upstairs.

"Goodnight!" Marco and Star said back.

Marco and Star were now alone, the first time they've been alone since the Ludo's castle went kaboom with the power of an an average sized meth lab. Nor had two really talked much since the wand got reborn in its newer form thanks to that tiny Italian horse; Star still can't decide if that was awesome or just plain weird even for her.

"Do, do you think he's gone?" Marco asked.

"Who, Toffee?"

"Yes," Marco replied.

Star turned her head and stared at the wall. Marco often zoned out like this too when he was thinking about something.

"I want to believe he's gone, I mean that explosion was pretty big" she finally said. "Still he just regrew his arm like it was no big deal...If he's not gone then..."

Marco saw Star getting agitated, this Toffee lizard really got under her skin in such a short while. Marco remembered Toffee trying his mind games on him, but he just made Marco angry not afraid; his tactics might work on other people but not on Marco and sadly they worked on Star. Worse Marco knew it only worked because Toffee had him as a bargaining chip.

"hey, hey I'm sorry I didn't mean to bring up bad memories, I'm trying to make sense of it all too," Marco said putting his hand on her shoulder.

"But if he is still alive, I promise next time he won't have me to use against you. If he ever shows his lizard lawyer face around us again, I'll be next to you throwing punches and not the damsel in distress" Marco tried to say reassuringly.

"Damsel? We'll we both know you make for a really pretty princess" Star said with a giggle.

Marco just rolled his eyes. "Overly handsome dude in distress, ugh whatever you know what I meant"

"How did you get captured anyway's? I must have been asleep when it happened since when I get angry I get sleepy" Star spoke remembering the sandwich incident.

"And before you answer that, I want to say I'm sorry about acting the way I did, I know now it's silly risking our lives like that for a sandwich. You must have thought I was a, well what I think I Janna would call a total bi-"

"Star, it's ok apology accepted. I'm sorry too for losing my temper the way I did, I'm starting to think I may have some dormant anger problems."

 Marco's mind flashed back to how he literally walked on fire as he was fueled by anger a few days ago at his karate class, his right arm actually twitched a little as he remembered this. It was the arm that got turned into an evil tentacle, these twitches have been happening for a while Marco keeps telling himself it's nothing but what if it's not?

Star embracing him in a hug broke his train of thought.

"And to think you almost died tonight thinking I only cared about myself and being reckless," Star said softly. Marco moved eased her up on her grip so he could talk to her.

"I never once thought that Star, honest...Ok maybe at first when we met but that soon changed I swear" Marco added with a smile.

"I thought it was so nice of you to give up your wand like that for me. For the record if it ever comes to that again don't do it."

"WHAT?!" said a surprised Star.

"I was scared Star I'll admit, as the glass walls closed in around me. I should have shouted no stop don't do it when you gave him the wand. But my life was flashing before my eyes too quickly to get the words out"

"Marco I would n-"

But Marco cut her off. "We got lucky this time with the wand reforming the way it did and with the tiny foreign horse showing up when it did, which by the way what was that about? it felt a little out of left field even for our lives"

Star just gave him a shrug.

"The point is, next time you may not be so lucky, even now I saw the look on your mom's face when she saw how the new wand, and Star she looked concerned. That thing is dangerous, you can't let it fall into anyone else's hands, not for any reason whatsoever. Something happening to me including."

"No" was Star's reply.

"The wand is powerful sure, but it's not like it's the only one in existence. And I'm pretty sure there are other more powerful sources of magic in various dimensions that make my wand look like a kids toy in comparison" Star was looking directly at Marco now.

"I can always get another wand, maybe one that's gold plated like all those pretend things that shoot out little metal pretend things that hurt fake people  in your games"

Marco laughed a little, he never heard of video game golden gun skins described like that before. All these months later it's still funny when Star explains Earth culture to him.

"What I'm trying to say Marco is all that stuff is replaceable and no bad guy will ever beat us if we stick together. What's not replaceable is YOU, and I'll hand over the wand on a silver platter if it means getting you back alive, as many times as it takes." Star said to him confidently.

Marco smiled. "You could always just clone me and keep several backups of me in the case of an emergency. It actually sounds kinda nice waking up every morning to breakfast made by me for me the way I like it, and if I never need a glass refilled with say refreshing lemonade one of my clones can pour it for me; now that be living the good life."

Star went in for another hug. "Oh I've thought about it, but it's just not the same. No clone can ever beat the real deal."

Marco hugged her back again, he still felt like ensuring the wand never fell into the wrong hands should be a top priority, but for now he's just happy to be alive and hugging his bestie. For Star he too would give up anything  to make sure she's safe, his life including.

"Wish Janna would stop pestering for a clone of you, though. I swear that girl's got issues"  Star added, Marco laughed and agreed wholeheartedly. They let go of each other just to hear the sound of a helicopter fly over the house, followed by 2 more they must have been flying fast and low to be that loud, Marco and Star just looked at each other and shrugged.

"You never did tell me how you got captured," Star told him.

"Oh right, well I went out to walk the laser puppies, I made it into downtown when all of Ludo's goons pounced at me at once. I fought them back as long as I could Star you should have seen me I was wham and kapow and bam bam bam" Marco said making punching and kicking noises.

"They just kept the coming, though, after a while I started getting worn out, my punches getting weaker and I was starting to lose focus. I picked up one of the laser puppies that didn't scatter and used him like a puppy assault rifle shooting lasers at any monster that moved. I thought I had them all beat when out of nowhere Toffee hit me with his tail in the face, the last thing I saw was him standing over me as I lost consciousness...he was smiling"

"I should have been there with you Marco I'm so sorry," Star said on the verge of tears after hearing his story.

"I'm glad you weren't if he had somehow gotten the wand there and then he may not have had any use to keep us both alive," Marco said trying to reassure Star.

"Come morning it will be a brand new day Star, let's just put this night behind us and soon it will all just seem like a bad dream," Marco said as he got up from the couch and got ready to go to bed.

Star nodded and followed suit, everything will be back to normal soon enough, Marco always knows the right thing to say. They both started going upstairs when Marco suddenly stopped mid step.

"THE PUPPIES!!" he shouted out loud.

"Star I forgot about them, they all scattered when I got attacked they must still be out there alone and afraid. We need to look for them."

"Marco don't worry, I can track them with the mirror since they are made of magic, and besides they are really smart I'm sure they will be at the front door in a few hours, plus with the laser beams no one or anything can hurt them. They'll be fine but we...we need to get some sleep." Star told him trying to get him to relax.

"Ok, yeah sounds good you are right, I was really worried for a second there. What's the worst the can happen in a few hours beside a few squirrels getting heart attacks as they get chased up a tree by a laser shooting dogs" Marco said taking a deep breath.

Star nodded in agreement. "C'mon lets get some rest, brand new day remember?"

"Brand new day" Marco repeated.

In the sky above, more helicopters flew by on their way to downtown Echo Creek. They were police and news helicopters. A few hours ago citizens reported a pack of laser shooting puppies roaming the streets of the city. Helpless people and law enforcement have been fleeing in terror as the monster dogs run around sniffing their butts and setting street lights and cars on fire with their laser vision. Anyone attempting to get close to apprehending them has been blasted with lasers, for now all people of Echo Creek can do as the city burns is lock their doors and pray for a quick and painless death from these adorable little heralds of the apocalypse.
