  1. [2010-08-26 16::39:46] Doink: [SESSION START]
  2. [2010-08-26 16::39:59] Doink: DATE: NOVEMBER 21st, 2015]
  3. [2010-08-26 16::40:33] Doink: [LOCATION: THE MISKATONIC ACADEMY FOR GIFTED YOUTH]
  4. [2010-08-26 16::42:49] Doink: It's been a few days since the pilots had their first day of classes, and things are already beginning to fall into a sort of routine. Today, however, as the bell chimes marking the end of the school day, a new opportunity awaits them. Miskatonic, it appears, requires students to participate in at least one after-school club each, and NERV has finally given the pilots leave to stay after and participate.
  5. [2010-08-26 16::43:23] Doink: As the other pilots search for the right fit, however, Henri embarks from class with a specific destination in mind.
  6. [2010-08-26 16::44:01] Doink: The Art Club at Miskatonic meets in a strange, cluttered room on the second floor of the east wing. Its long and narrow, stretching down part of the length of the floor, filled with easels and drawing tables and half-finished sculpture and students scurrying about with all manner of brushes and chisels and such, busily working on their individual projects. It seems to be a rather chaotic place, from what is visible from the doorway.
  7. [2010-08-26 16::44:52] Doink: No-one seems to comment on Henri's entry. In fact, most of the room seems oblivious to his presence.
  8. [2010-08-26 16::45:00] Doink: [ROLEPLAYING LOCKS-RELEASED]
  9. [2010-08-26 16::48:45] Henri_DEllaine: So, yes, Henri strode into the room with intent, but in all honesty, beyond doodling in the margins of notebooks, he'd never exactly done much... creative work. The clutter of the room was strangely familiar to him, like many of the workshops and facilities he'd been in through out his life, but with a completely alien purpose. Yes, he recognized the table saw in the corner, the butane torch underneath the small fume hood, but he really
  10. [2010-08-26 16::48:45] Henri_DEllaine: idea as to what all was going on this room... or what he should do.
  11. [2010-08-26 16::49:57] Henri_DEllaine: Slowly and carefully, Henri began to wander the room, being careful not to get in anyone's way, trying to find the only person he knew at this school beyond his comrades.
  12. [2010-08-26 16::55:22] Doink: After a few minutes of managing to avoid breaking anything, you find Jeanne midway down the length of the room. She's standing by a table, on which rests a small block of some kind of stone, chipping away methodically with a small chisel and hammer. She seems very absorbed in the work.
  13. [2010-08-26 16::59:05] Henri_DEllaine: "Finally.." he let out under his breath. He hoped that the general conduct for this kind of thing was the same for industrial settings, he didn't want to get chiseled in the face, after all. Coming up behind her, Henri tapped the young girl lightly on the shoulder with a simple "Hey."
  14. [2010-08-26 17::01:34] Doink: The girl jumps a bit, almost dropping her chisel.
  15. [2010-08-26 17::02:45] Henri_DEllaine: "Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck" Henri chastises himself in his mind. He quickly bends over to pick up the chisel while apologizing profusely in French.
  16. [2010-08-26 17::04:06] Doink: She turns to face you. "Ah, Henri! You decided to come!" She gives you an embarrassed smile. "I'm sorry, I get caught up in working sometimes, you startled me a bit."
  17. [2010-08-26 17::08:29] Henri_DEllaine: With an equally embarrassed smile, the boy retorts "Just shows you have a passion for your work, I guess. So yeah, I came... but, uh... I don't exactly have a good idea of what I should be doing here? I'm a little new to... well, art." Scratching the back of his head, Henri looks around the room at all the various mediums and practices at play. "I mean, I'm from Paris so I've been to the Louvre and tons of other museums plenty of times,
  18. [2010-08-26 17::08:29] Henri_DEllaine: I've never really made anything. Well, I've drawn, er, doodled some, and I've done some light mechanical stuff before but nothing really actually creative or anything..." /Stop it, you nitwit, you're babbling./ "Um... but... yeah, what are you doing right here? I guess that's probably the best place to start."
  19. [2010-08-26 17::11:59] Doink: Jeanne just smiles. "You have to start somewhere, right? Here, take a look." It seems she's happy to be asked about her work.
  20. [2010-08-26 17::13:26] Doink: She gestures to the block in front of her. It's still mostly intact, but the upper portion is beginning to take on the appearance of the top of a head. "It's not much yet, but eventually it will look like this," she says, pointing to an old photograph sitting on the workbench nearby.
  21. [2010-08-26 17::14:03] Doink: It appears to be an old black-and-white photograph of an older man, but beyond that you can't make out much.
  22. [2010-08-26 17::18:58] Henri_DEllaine: "So, you're knocking out that full likeness from just one photograph? That's impressive... and rather intimidating." He lets out a slightly nervous laugh with that last part. Reaching out, he puts his hand on the top of the rock block, feeling the both rough and smooth breaks along where Jeanne has been working on it. "I.. wouldn't be starting out on something like this, though, would I?"
  23. [2010-08-26 17::20:19] Doink: Jeanne: "Of course not. You can start out with whatever you want, we have supplies for just about anything you can think of."
  24. [2010-08-26 17::23:44] Henri_DEllaine: Henri still feels listless and without direction in this whole room... At least he can try and turn on some charm? "Well, Madame Moiselle, what would you best at teaching me?"
  25. [2010-08-26 17::28:27] Doink: If Jeanne is charmed, she doesn't let on. But she's enthusiastic, at least. "Well, my specialty is sculpture, obviously, but I don't know... here, come with me. I can show you some more." She sets down her tools and starts walking further down the room, gesturing at you to follow.
  26. [2010-08-26 17::29:02] Henri_DEllaine: Henri follows, a small bit displayed his wiles had no effect.
  27. [2010-08-26 17::30:59] Doink: Jeanne points out a few other club members' work as you weave your way down towards the end of the long room, before you finally end up in a slightly more open area devoid of workbenches and easels. Against the walls are vaguely defined shapes covered by white cloths. You can't make out what's underneath them.
  28. [2010-08-26 17::32:58] Henri_DEllaine: Henri walks to one of the stands and lifts up the sheet.
  29. [2010-08-26 17::35:22] Doink: You catch a glimpse of some kind of strange, flowing form underneath it. It looks vaguely like a human leg, but it's too distorted to tell, bending at an odd angle that just doesn't seem right to you—
  30. [2010-08-26 17::35:34] Doink: Jeanne: "Henri! Please, don't touch those!"
  31. [2010-08-26 17::36:10] Henri_DEllaine: Quickly backing away, Henri throws his hands up a bit. "Sorry, sorry, I was just curious."
  32. [2010-08-26 17::36:42] Doink: Jeanne sighs. "I can show you some if you'd like, but please don't just go touching things. Some of them are quite fragile."
  33. [2010-08-26 17::37:23] Doink: Jeanne: "As I was going to say, this is where we do larger sculpture work. Well, in stone at least. The plaster and clay stuff is right over there," she points at a row of tables nearby, splattered with old clay, "that would probably be a good place for you to start. We're very lucky to have all this space and supplies to work with."
  34. [2010-08-26 17::41:57] Henri_DEllaine: Taking another few steps away from the array of sheets, Henri turns towards the supply space. Still he can't shake the image of that twisted appendage from his mind. "Yes... this is certainly a huge amount of appreciation you all have here. I suppose I can see what I can do for now, but I really have no idea where to start. I don't want to interrupt your bust making, but at the same time I wouldn't mind a little instruction sometime if y
  35. [2010-08-26 17::41:57] Henri_DEllaine: have me.
  36. [2010-08-26 17::43:34] Doink: Jeanne beams. "Of course. I'm always happy to have a new student!"
  37. [2010-08-26 17::44:44] Henri_DEllaine: "Heh, well, I couldn't ask for a better teacher." he responds in kind, scratching the back of his head again to slightly hide his awkwardness
  38. [2010-08-26 17::45:42] Doink: Jeanne: "Then all you have to do is sign up for the art club in the office. Although... you might have to wait a week or so before I can work with you."
  39. [2010-08-26 17::46:21] Henri_DEllaine: "That's fine, I'm sure I can find something to practice with in here for a while."
  40. [2010-08-26 17::49:50] Doink: Jeanne: "I'm sorry. Most of the club will be busy, so you'll have to work on your own.... We're all preparing for a showing, you see. The Lodge in town is sponsoring it, so we have to make sure we do our best."
  41. [2010-08-26 17::50:00] Doink: Jeanne: "They paid for most of this, after all."
  42. [2010-08-26 17::50:40] Henri_DEllaine: "Oh, so that's where all this comes from. Well, I'd be happy to lend a hand in any way I can, what's the Lodge do, anyways?"
  43. [2010-08-26 17::53:06] Doink: Jeanne: "The Silver Twilight Lodge? Oh, they're just a bunch of rich old men who meet in one of the big old manor houses downtown. They paid for most of this school, you know. They like to sponsor student clubs too."
  44. [2010-08-26 17::54:57] Doink: Jeanne: "They're a bit strange, but they mean well. Before NERV showed up, they were the richest people in Arkham. Or so my father says."
  45. [2010-08-26 17::55:51] Henri_DEllaine: "Heh, well, that's certainly a bit odd, but philanthropy is always good. So is the show just student work or is it something they've commissioned?"
  46. [2010-08-26 17::58:02] Doink: Jeanne: "A bit of both. We're all showing works we've done, but they do sometimes commission us. That bust I was doing is a commission from them, actually. One of their founding members."
  47. [2010-08-26 17::59:42] Henri_DEllaine: "Well, I hope you can finish it in time then. And I can't wait to see what else ends up in the show."
  48. [2010-08-26 18::01:18] Doink: Jeanne smiles. "Thanks! I'm sure you'll get to go, since you're with NERV and all."
  49. [2010-08-26 18::02:17] Henri_DEllaine: "Hah, you'd be surprised, we don't exactly get the free reign you'd think we do. But I'll certainly try."
  50. [2010-08-26 18::04:13] Doink: [SESSION END]
