  1. The next Scene fades in. It is now morning and ANDREW is at another part of the camp, the BEACHSIDE TABLES. The area is a circle of tables on the edge of the FIRESIDE LAKE that the camp groups meet at in the mornings. ANDREW, NICK, and a couple other counselors walk to the tables, grabbing clipboards and reading over the information on them. ANDREW looks at his roster of campers, DANNY, JAMES, SETH, ANTHONY, JOSHUA, and NIKO are the names printed on the sheet. IVAN and GABI’s names are handwritten at the bottom of the roster, indicating that they have been recently added to the group.
  2.
  3. ANDREW
  4. Now, let’s see what’s on the Schedule today.
  5.
  6. Another Counselor sitting at the table next to ANDREW’s, BRANDON, responds to ANDREW
  7.
  8. Brandon
  9. The usual amount of complicated, boring games we have to play.
  10.
  11. Andrew
  12. Come on man, it’s not that boring.
  13.
  14. Brandon
  15. (Chuckles)
  16. You try playing kickball every day for five months, then we can talk about what’s boring.
  17.
  18. Andrew
  19. Well, you’ve got me there.
  20.
  21. Children talking and laughing can be heard in the distance. ANDREW, NICK, BRANDON, and the other counselors poke their heads up.
  22.
  23. Counselor
  24. Here they come.
  25.
  26. Girl Counselor
  27. (Sarcastically)
  28. Oh yay!
  29.
  30. NICK walks over and quickly sits down next to ANDREW.
  31.
  32. Nick
  33. (To Andrew, contemplating)
  34. How much longer do you think we can keep up the charade?
  35.
  36. Andrew
  37. That the world hasn’t ended?
  38.
  39. Nick
  40. That, yes. But what about the fact that you run the camp. You ever going to tell the campers, or the counselors for that matter, that Monica handed over control of the camp to you?
  41.
  42. Andrew
  43. Now’s not really the time to talk about that. But let’s just say this. I’m gonna keep the charade that we are still running a summer camp going as long as I have too, or at least can. And Monica posing as leader of the camp is just another part of that plan. Now get back with your group, we’ve got kids to deal with.
  44.
  45. NICK gets up and walks away, while ANDREW’s group of campers approach him. Most of them wear long sleeved shirts and jeans or sweatpants, though a few try to stay in the camp spirit and wear t-shirts and shorts.
  46.
  47. Andrew
  48. Good morning guys! How was breakfast?
  49.
  50. Danny
  51. Terrible, it was even smaller than yesterdays!
  52.
  53. Seth
  54. We only got like, a tiny bowl of cereal!
  55.
  56. Andrew
  57. I’m sorry guys, but we have 500 mouths to feed. It’s hard to ration the food sometimes. We’ll probably have to get more soon.
  58.
  59. Danny
  60. Probably.
  61.
  62. ANDREW begins checking off the names of kids on his lists, he stops at JOSHUA’s name and looks around for him. He sees him standing farther down the trail, paused, looking at something.
  63.
  64. Andrew
  65. Niko, can you go get Josh?
  66.
  67. Niko
  68. No, he’s being weird again.
  69.
  70. Seth
  71. He’s always being weird.
  72.
  73. Some of the other boy’s giggle, but ANDREW gets up and starts walking down towards JOSHUA.
  74.
  75. Andrew
  76. (Arriving, bends down on one knee next to JOSH)
  77. Hey, Josh. What’s up?
  78.
  79. JOSH just looks off into the forest. ANDREW looks to see what he’s looking at. Off in the distance, ANDREW see’s a deer
  80.
  81. Andrew
  82. (Continued)
  83. The deer?
  84.
  85. JOSH turns to Andrew and smiles.
  86.
  87. Andrew
  88. (Cont.)
  89. The Deer is pretty cool huh? What do you like about it?
  90.
  91. Josh
  92. Nice
  93.
  94. Andrew
  95. Yeah, Deer are nice. Nicer than most thins are in this world now.
  96.
  97. ANDREW and JOSH look back towards the Deer, it sees them and suddenly bounds away.
  98.
  99. Andrew
  100. (cont.)
  101. Hey, let’s go back to the table and play with the other kids for a little while, okay?
  102.
  103. JOSH’s face drops from a smile to a look of indifference.
  104.
  105. Andrew
  106. (Cont.)
  107. Oh come on, it’ll be fun. You always have fun with them. They’re your friends!
  108.
  109. JOSH shakes his head in resistance, and then Andrew sees, out of the corner of his eye, someone standing next to him.
  110.
  111. James
  112. Come on Josh, we are gonna go play with worms and then build a worm highway in the woodchips!
  113.
  114. JAMES extends his hand for JOSH’s, JOSH seems at first reluctant, but eventually takes it and walks off with JAMES.
  115.
  116. ANDREW starts walking back towards his table, but then stops. He looks over to his group, and see’s everybody but JAMES appear to be avoiding JOSH. Andrew stands still for a moment
  117.
  118. Andrew
  119. (Loudly)
  120. Hey guys, come over here real quick. James and Josh, you two can stay, everyone else over here.
  121.
  122. DANNY, SETH, ANTHONY, JOSHUA, NIKO, IVAN, and GABI walk over to ANDREW, clustering in front of him.
  123.
  124. Andrew
  125. (Leaning in, trying to be meaningful)
  126. I want to make something straight here. Things are tough, the world we live in now... it’s a tough world. We aren’t going to be able to survive in it if we can’t learn to get along.
  127.
  128. Anthony
  129. What do you mean?
  130.
  131. ANDREW points to NIKO
  132. Andrew
  133. Anthony, Niko is your brother in this world.
  134.
  135. ANDREW points to DANNY
  136. Andrew
  137. Niko, Danny is yours.
  138.
  139. ANDREW points to IVAN
  140. Danny, Ivan is your brother. We are all brothers here. We are not divided. We work, sleep, survive together as Brothers...
  141.
  142. ANDREW looks at GABI
  143. Andrew
  144. (cont.)
  145. And Sister. I guarantee you we wont get anywhere if we don’t become a family.
  146.
  147. Seth
  148. But we aren’t a family. We are just a bunch of kids and your a teenager.
  149.
  150. Andrew
  151. (Smiles)
  152. See, you missed the point. We are not blood related, yes. In the technical term, we are just a group of 10 people all stuck in the same situation. We need to be more than that. We aren’t a family now, but we need to become one.
  153.
  154. ANDREW stops, he can see the kids contemplating his statement
  155.
  156. Andrew
  157. (Continues, Points at Josh)
  158. Josh is your brother, no more acting like he’s weird or out of place. He is your brother, you stand by him and help him. And that goes for everyone of us. Understood?
  159.
  160. All Kids
  161. Yes, Andrew.
  162.
  163. Andrew
  164. Good to hear. But no more serious talk, let’s go play a game.
