  1. Welcome to AT&T Chat. My name is 'Kevin' and I’ll be happy to assist you today.
  2.
  3. Kevin: I apologize for the issues you have experienced. I have read the posted information & I will be pleased to assist you with updates on the HTC inspire 4g.
  4.
  5. Dan: Great thank you for your time Kevin.
  6.
  7. Kevin: Is the device performing normally?
  8.
  9. Dan: Correct, the update was for enabling "enabling unknown sources" which is a huge thing for Android users.
  10. Dan: This update was supposed to be pushed out on the 23rd to users who haven't gotten it yet, many have.
  11.
  12. Kevin: Please allow me an additional 2-3 minutes to grasp that information for you.
  13.
  14. Dan: Absolutely, thank you.
  15.
  16. Kevin: To determine if installation of the update is required, go to: Home>Menu>Settings>About Phone and verify the current Software Number. If the Software Number is 1.84.502.11 then the device is already up to date. If the device shows any other Software Number, then installation of the update is required.
  17.
  18. Dan: Correct yes, however as per your site. http://bizcommunity.att.com/t5/Android/Android-Application-Enablement/m-p/2350
  19. Dan: and community android forums http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-inspire-4g/83931-t-3rd-party-market-compatibility-rolling-out-may-16th.html
  20. Dan: there is an update for the "Unknown Sources" for this phone now which is important. It is not a "fix", it is a feature/option.
  21.
  22. Kevins: You can manually attempt to update the information. To manually upgrade the device, go to Home > Menu > Settings> AT&T Software Update > HTC Wi-Fi Software Update.
  23.
  24. Dan: Would my better option be to call to get the push update?
  25.
  26. Kevin: you do not require a update, if your software is 1.84.502.11, then the device is already up to date.
  27.
  28. Dan: While I see what you are saying, I don't think you are aware of the update i linked above.
  29. Dan: one from your very own site
  30.
  31. Kevin: I am well aware of the updates with AT&T.
  32.
  33. Dan: then can you share some light unto the "Unknown Sources" update and why I have not received it yet and the process I can take?
  34.
  35. Kevins: On April 29th, 2011 a Maintenance Release named 1.84.502.11. was released.
  36.
  37. Dan: Correct, this update was rolled out May 16th.
  38. Dan: It is a rolling update applied to most by the 23rd.
  39. Dan: From ATT.com ""Effective May 16th, 2011 select AT&T Android devices will begin receiving OTA push updates enabling access to third party application stores. Currently AT&T requires that Android downloads come only from the Android Marketplace. This reduces the likelihood of malicious apps being downloaded. The push updates will allow select Android devices to load third party apps from other servers, links and/or SD cards.""
  40. Dan: May with Inspire have received this update, I was wondering where and how I may go about the same.
  41.
  42. Kevin: To further assist you, please send me the password (used when you call AT&T via phone if you have chosen one), or the last four digits of the Social Security number. Example: Name of Account holder: Mobile Number, Password or Social security number.

  51.
  52. Dan: Thank you for your time Kevin.
  53.
  54. Kevin: I apologize about any issues or inconvenience that may have been caused by taking time out your day to address updates. Is there anything else I can help you with?
