  1. "Wings"
  2. Fictional novel by Neil Ball
  3.
  4. Chapter one - Ignition
  5.
  6. I landed on my feet with a thud, one in front of the other, my head and torso leaning down slightly, arms spread out to each side behind my back. I stood up to regular height, revealing the static electricity in my eyes as I lifted my safety goggles onto my forehead.
  7. Flight with wings was no easy task, but then again, no one would be able to understand that- but me. I'm was the only known human with wings. The doctors, my parents, friends, family- no one knows why. Not even I. Having wings makes me different from everyone else, but I've never felt lonely or bullied in my life because of it. Regardless of circumstance, everyone saw my wings as a reason to be friends with me, never a reason to pick on me. Myself alike them, believed that having wings and the ability of flight was a gift. A lucky, awesome gift.
  8. I was in the park, and a small group, even a crowd, of about 25 people stood in awe as I recovered from my decension. I felt a plesant grin, not too evil, not but entirely normal shawn brightly on my face. I'm not a man of many words, but simply put, I loved showing off. Getting attention, preforming for people, making them clap for me. It was amazing. My adrenaline, skill, and determination in flight was truly impressive.
  9. I'm only a kid. A mere teenager. Rounding at the age of 14 years old, and having accomplished elementary school, I was going to be in grade 9. Starting tomorrow. Believe it or not, I'm not just a skilled athletic flyer. I'm also very smart, and I have an excellent grasp on the behaviors of society. I knew that by going into grade 9 with wings was either going to be really fun, or horribly awful. The entire school, with students ranging from 14-18, would all be teenagers. Needless to say, the most judgemental type of person is a teenager.
  10. My entire 4 years I'll spend in this school depends on my first impression. I've done a little planning, I admit. I want to make a bold, couragous, and skillful first impression. I want to look cool. In order to arrive at my school from where I life, I need to take a buss ride for a half hour. How akaward of a first impression is that. Sitting on a bus, inactive and incapable of flight- with wings.
  11. I've also been recording my flight speed, and I recorded that I could fly at a top speed of 170 miles per hour. I can get to this speed in a few short seconds of flight. Flying doesn't take as much energy as you would think. My wings are appearently, as the doctors say, "a lot stronger than the average 26 year old man's legs are." Or in otherwise, my wings are the strongest part of my body, and I've mastered their control, both the appendage and the muscle control.

  13. Chapter two - Highschool
  14.
  15. I flew to highschool. It took some guts, and the flight trip itself wasn't a hassle. Everything started when I got to school. I honestly couldn't tell if I recieved a positive or negitive reaction. I landed, similar to how I did in the very first paragraph. I took my goggles off and tossed them into my backpack which I had on my chest instead of my back. I mean, I can't fly with a bag over my wings. I walked the remaining 10 meters into the school, carrying my backpack. Anyone who noticed me stared, eyes widened and mouths open. I didn't say anything as their heads followed me when I walked by, but I kept an excellent pokerface on the whole time. Someone ran up beside me.
  16. "Woah, you have wings?" he asked.
  17. "Yeah." I said as I glanced at him.
  18. His face lit up. "That's awesome!"
  19. I was happy to hear that first positive comment, non judgemental or aggressive. School went on normally from that point. People didn't care or people didn't notice.
