Episode 03 Batoru

Yuzuki vs Akira, as well as Hitoe vs Ruuko. I've said so before on twitter, but the contrast between the two battles was carefully drawn. The hot and passionate fight between Red and Blue, and the calm battle between Green and White. Did you enjoy the contrast?

-Yuzuki vs Akira
Yuzuki goes second.

The board looks something like this. Yuzuki starts her attack and gets the advantage.

However, she faces hand destruction the next turn and is shaken by the spell TOO BAD.

Bye-bye time. Akira forces her to discard one SIGNI. Considering the status of her Ener and the board, as well as the fact she only has one card in hand, Akira decided to do battle with low level SIGNI.
More turns occur, and Piruluk grows to level 3. Akira has more than enough Ener.

>Brace yourself. Your wish is nothing to be ashamed of!
Hanayo tried to calm Yuzuki down.

Akira continues her mind games.

She lost it.
The Arts she used to try and inerrupt the verbal attack was 烈覇一絡 (Dominating Fury)

>Banish one opponent's SIGNI of 10000 power or below

Though you can use it during your opponent's attack phase, it uses up 3 Ener.
Though it has a high cost, if you were to actually play it at this time it's not actually that bad of a mistake.

The SIGNI in the middle was banished. Piruluk and her SIGNI then attacked. However, because of everything Akira said, Yuzuki was unable to use any more of her Arts, and without any Guard cards in her hand took the full brunt of Piruluk's attack.

If only she had Adamasphere here...
If she just had that one card, Yuzuki could've incorporated a strategy that let her grow to level 4. But it was too late to regret. She took 4 damage at once, and lost.

Hitoe vs Ruuko

Ruuko goes first. Unfortunately, she didn't have any level 1 cards. In the actual WIXOSS rules, you're allowed to redraw any amount of cards once, so normally you'd want to do that. You do that after deciding which side goes first. This is because the strategy changes depening on when you go...

By using the Arts "Giant", Shiro gains power, and goes to defeat Square who normally has a higher power during its opponent's turn.

It's shown a bit differently in the anime, but this is basically the current setup.
Ruuko then becomes troubled thinking about how she's fighting someone with a wish despite having none herself.
But, responding to Hitoe's earnest desire for a serious battle, and her own feelings towards her friend, she goes into serious mode.

Although Piruluk is on the card, it's not limited to her. It's an Art that can negate an opponent's spell (but not an Art). Actually, this is the card that she picked up in the card shop during episode 2.

She protected Flambel (spelling?). In a way, the image here is one of throwing away the ability to use a spell. Midoriko has quite a bit of Life Cloth. In the anime, Midoriko is defeated after that, but...

This is what the field looked like when Ruuko won. She opened up the battlefield by using Rococo Boundary to bounce a SIGNI. If they made it to the next turn, Hitoe would've been able to use her "Great Talents Mature Late" Arts.
