The spellbook has been carefully bound in blood wolf hide, which is
  scuffed.  Bold calligraphy scribed in thick black ink scrawls
  dramatically over the wolf hide cover.

A serpentine emerald viper bloodlock has been attached to the spellbook.
  The emerald viper's head has been looped back over to grasp its tail
  over the front end of the book, securing it closed.  Tiny ivory fangs
  jut out of its maw into the tail, locking it in place.
