Mistake

She realised it was a mistake as soon as she turned the corner. Why did she decide to sneak out this night? Did she not know what fate had in store? A girl aged 16 wanted to go to a party with friends but her mother would not let her so she snuck out. Strong wind was blowing, it was raining but the girl got her coat ready and snuck out through the window. “My parents are stupid “she thought as she walked down the street towards her friend’s house “I hope I’m going the right way, I think Jim said his house was this way” she mumbled.
As the rain hit the ground and not a star in the sky wind churning she decided that she was going take a shortcut there she went into an alley way and went on for what seemed like hours turning left and right like she wasn’t getting anywhere but eventually she saw a barrel with a fire lit in it and a man standing there getting warm the man didn’t notice her straight away because of the rain was too loud for him to hear her she asked the man for directions the man stood about 5’8 with messy clothes and a scraggly beard and a crazy look in his eye, she knew that she made a mistake talking to the man but still stood there to see her question answered.
“Directions where darling?” he asked with a slightly nasally voice. The girl said “Umm I wanted to ask direction to pineapple avenue and I was wondering if you might know” the man smiled and let out a little laugh and replied with “Well little girly, I can show you the way just follow me…” she felt like something wasn’t right but she nodded and followed the man they walked for what seemed like ages and the girl felt like they were getting further and further from the main road and getting deeper and deeper to the alley ways toward the ghetto’s and abandoned buildings.
The girl finally said with a little squeak “are you sure this is the right way it seems like we are getting further away…” the man smiled and said to reassure the girl “Don’t worry little girl this is the right way I just wanted to collect something while on the way come in here my bike is in there” as he turned into a corner where there is a long narrow passage with a door at the end of it, “C’mon girly were just going to get my bike” she felt like she shouldn’t trust this man he seems VERY off. Hesitantly, she followed.

“I shouldn’t have followed this man. Why did I have to leave my home? I’m scared. I should have never left. I WANT TO GO HOME” the thoughts kept swimming around in her head and she felt like she was drowning in fear. She saw a blade shimmer from the man’s pocket as the sense of panic and distress rose in her. She knew that if she followed the man through that door, it was all over. She had little option, she ran.
She turned and started sprinting.
The rain was still pouring down, it was remarkable how she managed to start running on the slippery wet floor. But she managed it, adrenaline propelling her on. She ran running through alleyways with the man following, slightly slower behind saying “Why are you running little girl, Oh wait you realised haven’t you…” his voice was slithery and dangerous. It felt like it was lingering, echoing in her mind. He started laughing, a hideous sound full of evil intent.  She ignored him and continued running going through the alleyways, turning left and right, all the while a feeling like someone has a grasp on the back of her neck. She felt like she was being hunted.
She was being hunted.
She managed to find a way to the main road and saw the town. The joy she felt as she clapped eyes on the lights would stay with her forever.  She ran towards them with tears in her eyes. She stopped and turned to check on her pursuer. She could see the man standing in the alleyway with a crazy look in his eye and a tactical knife in his hand. He laughed and retreated back into the shadows, calling… “This isn’t over little one, I’ll find you again.”
The girl bounded into a local restaurant and begged the waitress to call her a taxi. The waitress could see her distress so obliged. She went back home. Her parents were awake and waiting for her. The door opened her mother jumped up and squealed “WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? This policeman has come to help us find you.” The policeman turned around.
It was him.
He started laughing.
