- The landscape is dominated by the presence of the core of the Great Oak just to
- the north, a massive pillar shooting up through the center guts of the tree and
- beyond. Its sublime glow casts an effulgent green light over the surrounding
- area, wavering in intensity in accordance with the pulsing energy of the core.
- The forest thins abruptly in this central hollow, leaving an open clearing of
- lush grasses to surround the pillar on all sides, emerald blades flourishing in
- the presence of the core. Several of the roots of the great tree touch down
- nearby to the west and east, plunging deep into the soil. Sap weeps from a giant
- sugar maple that towers over much of the plantlife in this section of the wood.

- The ancient Heartwood is a forest sheltered beneath the Great Oak; the underside
- of the massive tree looms high above, far enough away that it would seem as any
- other sky until one stares directly up at it. The forest is a mixture of
- deciduous and coniferous trees, growing densely together through here. No
- natural sunlight filters in, the dark forest lit solely by the bright
- luminescence of the core of the Great Oak, at the very center of the giant tree.
- Phosphorescent energy emits from the core in the form of ethereal ribbons,
- scattering out over the forest to suffuse the flora with its life-energy. Fueled
- by this otherworldly energy and fed to an enriched state, the plant life of the
- Heartwood reaches abnormal proportions and coloring, but never varying far from

- A natural landbridge connects the Heartwood to the southern riverbank, crossing
- the span of water in a narrow path. The lake comes right up and against the
- bridge on either side, one misstep rewarding the traveler with a dip in the cool,
- clear waters. The path has an organic, natural feel to it, and while it is
- solid and sturdy enough for packbeasts to traverse, there is some slight give
- detected, as if the land mass were floating above the current rather than
- bisecting the body of water. The lake is a spacious expanse to the west and east,
- sounds of the trickling water both tranquil and serene. A burly centaur stands

- A narrow crevice works its way into the rocky face of the southern Hollow, a
- passage with grey rock on all sides. A comfortable warmth comes from further
