  1. (02:42:34 PM) Darkfire: Also, with the altered attack rules... seems kinda strange. Wouldn't it be easier to just cound all attacks as 5th Gen as far as attack power and effects?
  2. (02:42:46 PM) Darkfire: This is true xD Which is why I said I'd go with the higher price, personally
  3. (02:43:06 PM) Lady Vulpix G: We could do that, but then the past stories that described the attacks as having different effects would become outdated.
  4. (02:43:59 PM) Lady Vulpix G: And then the new ones would become outdated if any future games decided to change them again.
  5. (02:45:03 PM) Darkfire: The way I see it is that no one ever said that attacks can't evolve like Pokemon do >.>
  6. (02:46:06 PM) Lady Vulpix G: For attacks like Dig, it wouldn't make that much of a difference (who can tell, from reading a battle, whether the move had 60 or 80 base power?). But moves like Surf would become a lot riskier to use on double and triple battles, and how would you explain someone having used it without hitting his/her partners before, and being unable to do it now?
  7. (02:46:52 PM) Darkfire: ... They moved out of the way?
  8. (02:47:36 PM) Darkfire: Taking things too literally in written when talking about a video game is just asking for trouble .-. While yes, it would make sense to catch 2 or 3 or even everyone in the battle with a Surf attack, they could also just be too far away to be hit with the attack.
  9. (02:49:36 PM) Lady Vulpix G: Yes, if they get far enough away in time, it can work, but then it would take time for them to return to the battle. There is a difference between an attack spreading out in a forward cone, and being launched in all directions at the same time.
  10. (02:50:11 PM) Lady Vulpix G: And the latter would be harder to ride too.
  11. (02:51:01 PM) Darkfire: If it was too hard to escape, I don't know why it would be used at all >< The trainers would probably get swept up in it too. Ah, damn creeper Dx
  12. (02:51:28 PM) Lady Vulpix G: Trainers don't normally stand close to the Pokemon during a battle.
  13. (02:51:46 PM) Lady Vulpix G: And if it were so easy to escape, opponents would dodge it too.
  14. (02:54:23 PM) Darkfire: Which is why, I would personally write that the Surf would be aimed at one opponent and everyone else swept up is collarteral damage. And, in general, it seems that trainers do tend to stand too close, but if one is going to flood an entire field... Surf is probably one of those attacks that can be written, and thus used in multiple ways :x Or explained. I guess I just don't see it as such a big deal to say that a technique can evolve and change over time. xD
