  1. [5/5/2014 11:12:41 AM] endie.h: Like Ransome said: "better drowned than duffers, if not duffers won't drown."
  2. [5/5/2014 11:12:45 AM] endie.h: Because clearly childrens' novels of the early 30s are the best guide to action in eve.
  3. [5/5/2014 11:19:19 AM] twiggermeister: To reiterate on the following: Executive Summary:
  4. 1. Sov holding Alliance with limited footprint (2 - 4 constellations - Possibly http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Vale_of_the_Silent/5YHF-H,bug6-x#const);
  5. [5/5/2014 11:19:33 AM] twiggermeister: I also strongly recommend http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Vale_of_the_Silent/F-V9QW#const so we don't create an intel deadzone for CO2 who stages just outside Vale borders.
  6. [5/5/2014 11:20:11 AM] twiggermeister: And by just outside, I mean 1 jump
  7. [5/5/2014 11:27:35 AM] Siggon.k: odds are good we'll wrap this up this week
  8. [5/5/2014 11:27:54 AM] Siggon.k: so yeah, there will be more concrete information on the way
  9. [5/5/2014 11:29:34 AM] Siggon.k: so yeah, if you've any final suggestions now is the time to make them. as is, I think we have a pretty good outline to start moving forward on this
  10. [5/5/2014 11:35:12 AM] rreynolds3: We are right on track.
  11. [5/5/2014 11:40:46 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: I posted the summary to mittani last night as well
  12. [5/5/2014 11:41:33 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: I don't think there El be an Intel dead zone. Ask the space will be blue. It just won't be our sov
  13. [5/5/2014 11:42:00 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: People will still be in tthose systems
  14. [5/5/2014 11:42:28 AM] Siggon.k: my expectation is that people will still use the systems even with a different flag, yeah
  15. [5/5/2014 11:52:00 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Transcript up to date
  16. [5/5/2014 11:54:36 AM] Siggon.k: you guys are welcome to jab carneros about all kinds of stuff as well
  17. [5/5/2014 11:54:58 AM] Siggon.k: as mentioned, he's slated to be a sub-exec guy
  18. [5/5/2014 11:55:33 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Carneros - I just listed you as Li3, not as specific corp representative. if you'd like, I can change that, let me know your preference
  19. [5/5/2014 11:56:09 AM] rreynolds3: Comfortable with all kinds of names/titles. EVE TV was asking how to introduce me. I no longer hide any of my identities.
  20. [5/5/2014 11:56:22 AM] rreynolds3: Carneros, former CCP Zinfandel, Rick, etc.
  21. [5/5/2014 11:57:55 AM] rreynolds3: And no corp affiliation
  22. [5/5/2014 11:58:28 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: really, its just so we know internally what the heritage is. Since we don't get in game names initially, I try to make sure that i have the name correct for the transcript. The transcript is shared out of this chat to some directors of corps to keep them up to date. If you have an email address you'd like added to the share list, post it and I'll add it.
  23. [5/5/2014 11:59:33 AM] Siggon.k: could list him as mini-(nicer)mittens
  24. [5/5/2014 12:00:25 PM] Phineas Freak: carneros does li3 have a backlog as long as ours or should we try harder
  25. [5/5/2014 12:00:47 PM] Siggon.k: does li3 know?
  26. [5/5/2014 12:00:54 PM] Siggon.k: I thought it was just carneros
  27. [5/5/2014 12:01:05 PM] Phineas Freak: the srious qetion beind that: yep dos li 3 know
  28. [5/5/2014 12:01:34 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: do they know they are in trouble of failing, or being asked to close up and join this new alliance?
  29. [5/5/2014 12:01:35 PM] rreynolds3: I'm in a meeting right now with LI3 corp CEOs and I'm telling them a partial amount.
  30. [5/5/2014 12:01:47 PM] Phineas Freak: kk ty
  31. [5/5/2014 12:03:11 PM] Phineas Freak: means you have a quite a handfull to do, so i#ll just chill for a couple days :)
  32. [5/5/2014 12:05:58 PM] Siggon.k: I'm hoping it doesn't take a couple of days
  33. [5/5/2014 12:06:24 PM] Siggon.k: I think most stuff is more or less set to go, just have to pull the trigger on it
  34. [5/5/2014 12:06:44 PM] rreynolds3: This is my version of "recovering from Fanfest"
  35. [5/5/2014 12:07:22 PM] Siggon.k: that said, I lost my list of corps who were staying in this or at least likely staying and I can't paste it
  36. [5/5/2014 12:07:30 PM] Siggon.k: is that something you have handy chance?
  37. [5/5/2014 12:08:01 PM] Siggon.k: or failing that, can you folks sound off for where your corps stand right now?
  38. [5/5/2014 12:11:40 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: i have it
  39. [5/5/2014 12:15:25 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Those indicating that they are looking at staying
  40. P0LR
  41. PRAX
  42. B-HS
  43. YBOX
  44. BOINA
  45. ARMA
  46. TFN
  47. SRNE
  48. TETIC
  49. EMPIN
  50. OHCRP
  51. FARSC
  52. AIRK
  53. BOINA
  54. ZEBR
  55.
  56. Leaving GENTS for sure are
  57. KAZO
  58. FSJ
  59. [5/5/2014 12:16:53 PM] zczebra: aside the fact were sat in limbo land for 5 more weeks my guys are split 50/50 atm, but we will make a choice by the end of this one in preperation.
  60. [5/5/2014 12:18:21 PM] Siggon.k: awesome, thanks
  61. [5/5/2014 12:21:41 PM] Siggon.k: carneros has also indicated that we'll be able to use li3's server setup so that you guys won't be reliant on gsf's infrastructure or our terrible IT
  62. [5/5/2014 12:21:50 PM] Siggon.k: which I anticipate will be a popular optoin
  63. [5/5/2014 12:21:54 PM] Siggon.k: *option
  64. [5/5/2014 12:22:47 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Summary updated with the list of corps. Adjusted the list to indicate that ZEBR, SRNE, and PRAX are at this point undecided, but interested
  65. [5/5/2014 12:23:54 PM] Siggon.k: a separate forums and such will no doubt help a great deal with identity and being able to fully control how the alliance is messaged internally
  66. [5/5/2014 12:24:08 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: that would be critical i think
  67. [5/5/2014 12:25:38 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: we could have a separate set-up on the GSF hardware, but that might make it hard to control elements we want like forum sections, Mumble tags and channel access, if we don't have someone with admin rights
  68. [5/5/2014 12:25:54 PM] Siggon.k: "might make it hard" he says
  69. [5/5/2014 12:26:06 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: i have a flair for the understatement
  70. [5/5/2014 12:26:34 PM] Siggon.k: let's just say I'd prefer a separate forums managed and admined by this new alliance if people are cool with it
  71. [5/5/2014 12:27:00 PM] Siggon.k: working with our IT guys is, at best, a glacial process
  72. [5/5/2014 12:27:06 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: siggon - yeah, much better
  73. [5/5/2014 12:27:19 PM] rreynolds3: We have nice rented equipment already. We just need to borrow GSF organization/structures and make fresh implementations.
  74. [5/5/2014 12:27:35 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Carneros, is your IT guy or guys pretty active and attentive?
  75. [5/5/2014 12:27:48 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: we tried an IT team with limited success
  76. [5/5/2014 12:28:13 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: but there will need to be some additional folks that have mumble and forums admin rights to make adjustments as needed
  77. [5/5/2014 12:28:30 PM] rreynolds3: We have a guy named DraXXuspb who is very active, highly invested, and enthusiastic.
  78. [5/5/2014 12:28:43 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Mumble or TS?
  79. [5/5/2014 12:28:52 PM] rreynolds3: TS so far
  80. [5/5/2014 12:29:08 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Sig - do we have a preference?
  81. [5/5/2014 12:29:26 PM] Siggon.k: I don't personally, no
  82. [5/5/2014 12:29:33 PM] Siggon.k: up to y'all
  83. [5/5/2014 12:29:35 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: we've been on mumble for a few years. At the alliance level it does not matter much likely
  84. [5/5/2014 12:29:45 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: we use TS for corp stuff
  85. [5/5/2014 12:30:00 PM] Siggon.k: do you have a jabber server as well?
  86. [5/5/2014 12:30:45 PM] rreynolds3: We have Jabber and Wiki set up too. And forums.
  87. [5/5/2014 12:31:10 PM] Siggon.k: woo hoo, this solves a lot of technical issues
  88. [5/5/2014 12:31:24 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Carneros - I'm not sure it matters much in the end. So whatever you guy is comfortable with. Can TS do whisper/shout to channel groups like Mumble - that is incredibly useful ofr the FCs and command staff
  89. [5/5/2014 12:32:05 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: and we'll want a clear slate for all of it - Fresh forums, Fresh Jabber channels, etc
  90. [5/5/2014 12:33:12 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: AS for the wiki - we can get Lake to give us the data from the GENTS WIKI and see if we can integrate that info. We have some good stuff that would be a shame to lose
  91. [5/5/2014 12:33:52 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: obviously a new KB as well
  92. [5/5/2014 12:34:10 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Damn so much "real work" that has to be done
  93. [5/5/2014 12:34:48 PM] rreynolds3: DraXXuspb is asking me for a contact at GSF who can give him the structures/hierarchy to follow in the new implementation.
  94. [5/5/2014 12:35:53 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: We'll want some jabber channels that are API tied for corps, and maybe a jabber channel tied to CEO and Director roles
  95. [5/5/2014 12:36:03 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: others we can make as needed and have them set as invite only
  96. [5/5/2014 12:36:09 PM] Siggon.k: he can contact me directly via jabber
  97. [5/5/2014 12:36:27 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: FCs, Scouts, Capitals, Titans, Etc
  98. [5/5/2014 12:36:48 PM] rreynolds3: Thanks, Sion. And we can tie to roles, etc. again.
  99. [5/5/2014 12:38:12 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: also - we'll need a roster and registration process for our supers and titans. GENTS had a Google Form and document we used to track that stuff. We asked pilots to register their supers and titans so we had an up to date list
  100. [5/5/2014 12:39:48 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: in addition, I think the APIs let us maintain a list of those pits, and their location based on the API stuff, but I'm not sure how that got built. But that list was useful when deployed as it let jus know if there were folks not moving or who might be in hostile space when we were ready to remove staging towers, etc
  101. [5/5/2014 12:41:14 PM] Siggon.k: if there are coders spread across the alliances, it should be possible to build whatever doesn't exist initially as well
  102. [5/5/2014 12:41:18 PM] rreynolds3: Any objection to me inviting our IT guy to this channel so he can hear this stuff and respond with options?
  103. [5/5/2014 12:41:30 PM] rreynolds3: Or we can do a separate channel.
  104. [5/5/2014 12:42:03 PM] Siggon.k: may as well hold off for now
  105. [5/5/2014 12:42:18 PM] Siggon.k: that's getting pretty into the details
  106. [5/5/2014 12:42:30 PM] Siggon.k: and still need a name :v:
  107. [5/5/2014 12:42:46 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: oh, the little things ..
  108. [5/5/2014 12:45:39 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: On 5/5/14, at 9:47 AM, endie.h wrote:
  109. > It is vital that the name is something people are keen to drop into the conversation because they are proud of it.
  110. [5/5/2014 12:48:55 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Bastion Alliance, Bastion Federation, Lightweight Bastion, Last Bastion Alliance
  111. [5/5/2014 12:51:24 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: ugh - frustrating
  112. [5/5/2014 1:02:43 PM] endie.h: Without wishing to delve into unpleasant businesspeak like "synergies" an advantage of being closely tied to GSF is that we can just use the existing structures and applications for stuff like supercap groups
  113. [5/5/2014 1:03:04 PM] endie.h: registration and group management in general, potentially
  114. [5/5/2014 1:04:03 PM] endie.h: GSF's systems have been somewhat sclerotic at times, so I'm not suggesting that as a blanket approach (although we've been investing a lot of time reforming that aspect) but where they generally work we can save on up-front effort
  115. [5/5/2014 1:30:18 PM] numismancer: The Last Bastion or The Bastion has some elegance
  116. [5/5/2014 1:30:40 PM] rreynolds3: :)
  117. [5/5/2014 1:30:50 PM] numismancer: I'm going to hide from the icelandic madness for a few hours and get some work done
  118. [5/5/2014 1:31:12 PM] numismancer: Sion and endie will fill me in on what I've missed on the project while here
  119. [5/5/2014 1:31:21 PM] rreynolds3: Sion may be sitting on a couple of things waiting for a Mittani seal.
  120. [5/5/2014 1:32:18 PM] numismancer: Yeah, there's a backlog
  121. [5/5/2014 1:32:42 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Carneros , in case you see 'weird' names, numismancer = The Mittani
  122. [5/5/2014 1:33:00 PM] Attoy [ybox]: but I'd guess you already know it
  123. [5/5/2014 1:33:15 PM] numismancer: I'm floating along in the wake of devastation this punk chick is leaving trying to not die of alcohol poisoning; it's been a trip, but exhausting
  124. [5/5/2014 1:33:45 PM] rreynolds3: Yeah, we are in a couple of other channels together.
  125. [5/5/2014 1:33:47 PM] numismancer: I nearly killed the guy from the Guardian last night, he wanted to do shots
  126. [5/5/2014 1:34:25 PM] Attoy [ybox]: shots of?
  127. [5/5/2014 1:34:28 PM] numismancer: My liver is on overdrive so next thing I know he's barely able to stand up and I'm just trucking along
  128. [5/5/2014 1:34:35 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Mittani - summary was linked to you in another chat. I can add you to the list on the doc if you give me an email address
  129. [5/5/2014 1:34:47 PM] numismancer: Vodka, jameson, then 'lava shots' at Nora
  130. [5/5/2014 1:34:58 PM] Attoy [ybox]: wtf, nice mix :P
  131. [5/5/2014 1:35:10 PM] numismancer: I'm on a phone right now, will drill down when I get the laptop set up
  132. [5/5/2014 1:35:30 PM] numismancer: Kesper has been having a blast and is in good spirits
  133. [5/5/2014 1:35:55 PM] Attoy [ybox]: glad to hear that
  134. [5/5/2014 1:36:29 PM] Attoy [ybox]: I thought GENTS disbanding gave him a pretty bad hit :/
  135. [5/5/2014 1:38:48 PM] rreynolds3: On Tuesday night, Kesper came to the Li3 alliance dinner at Fanfest which was great fun. He and David Reid (CCP Pokethulhu) were our guests of honor.
  136. [5/5/2014 1:40:03 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Nice
  137. [5/5/2014 1:40:34 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Repack Bastion?
  138. [5/5/2014 1:40:39 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: GRR
  139. [5/5/2014 1:40:51 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Repsek bastion
  140. [5/5/2014 1:42:11 PM] endie.h: What does that mean?
  141. [5/5/2014 1:43:00 PM] Phineas Freak: Knapsak bastallion
  142. [5/5/2014 1:43:16 PM] Attoy [ybox]: ?!
  143. [5/5/2014 1:43:35 PM] Phineas Freak: don#t mind me and my bad puns
  144. [5/5/2014 1:44:19 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Repsek is kesper backwards
  145. [5/5/2014 1:44:40 PM] endie.h: I see
  146. [5/5/2014 1:44:50 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Or north bastion
  147. [5/5/2014 1:45:03 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Less obvious
  148. [5/5/2014 1:45:09 PM] numismancer: The Last Bastion could work actually if it's available
  149. [5/5/2014 1:45:13 PM] numismancer: I'll mull
  150. [5/5/2014 1:46:08 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: The summary has all the suggestions so far
  151. [5/5/2014 1:46:17 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Or at least most of them
  152. [5/5/2014 1:47:22 PM] Phineas Freak: North bastion is nice. couple it with a golem dortcine :)
  153. [5/5/2014 1:48:10 PM] endie.h: "The Bastion" is still free, isn't it?
  154. [5/5/2014 1:48:23 PM] endie.h: Doesn't show up on dotlan, although that is not decisive, I grant you
  155. [5/5/2014 1:48:34 PM] rreynolds3: It seems free.
  156. [5/5/2014 1:49:00 PM] rreynolds3: I have 30 hits of corps with Bastion but none say The Bastion.
  157. [5/5/2014 1:49:37 PM] rreynolds3: There is a character Bastion the Bugger and a character The Bastion Hemanseh.
  158. [5/5/2014 1:50:05 PM | Edited 1:51:39 PM] endie.h: Bastion the Bugger
  159. [5/5/2014 1:50:29 PM] endie.h: I hope that his name is proudly displayed on the Eve Monument to Moderately and Temporarily Increased Subs
  160. [5/5/2014 1:51:09 PM] endie.h: I can't believe that they did that without something big to tie in that would aid retention: a Big New Feature or the like
  161. [5/5/2014 2:16:06 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: The Norr Bastion (swedish for Noth)
  162. [5/5/2014 2:18:06 PM] Attoy [ybox]: stupid question, there's the new bastion module, does it interfere with the naming policy? Is 'bastion' still good in corp/ally names?
  163. [5/5/2014 2:18:44 PM] endie.h: It would be great if you were able to get rid of alliance names because of in-game terminology
  164. [5/5/2014 2:18:52 PM] endie.h: Goodbye Pandemic "Legion"
  165. [5/5/2014 2:19:04 PM] endie.h: However, no
  166. [5/5/2014 2:19:15 PM] Attoy [ybox]: ahah I mean, not retroactively
  167. [5/5/2014 2:19:19 PM] Attoy [ybox]: ok, good :)
  168. [5/5/2014 2:20:11 PM] Attoy [ybox]: The Bastion/The Last Bastion is a nice name
  169. [5/5/2014 2:21:56 PM] endie.h: I like The Bastion
  170. [5/5/2014 2:22:07 PM] endie.h: I feel The Last Bastion is a bit pompous
  171. [5/5/2014 2:22:23 PM] endie.h: The modifier/intensifier there is unnecessary
  172. [5/5/2014 2:22:38 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Simpler is better
  173. [5/5/2014 2:22:44 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Agree, The Bastion, ticker?
  174. [5/5/2014 2:23:01 PM] Attoy [ybox]: TB? it doesn't sound too good
  175. [5/5/2014 2:24:01 PM] endie.h: You'd never get a two letter ticker
  176. [5/5/2014 2:24:10 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Bastn
  177. [5/5/2014 2:24:24 PM] rreynolds3: I would try for things like BAST or BSTN or BASTN. Yeah.
  178. [5/5/2014 2:25:16 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Bstn I like
  179. [5/5/2014 2:25:26 PM] endie.h: BAST, being an egyptian cat goddess, is likely taken too
  180. [5/5/2014 2:25:34 PM] endie.h: also because "bastard"
  181. [5/5/2014 2:26:47 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Is there a catalog of taken tickers
  182. [5/5/2014 2:26:58 PM] rreynolds3: I haven't been able to locate one.
  183. [5/5/2014 2:28:45 PM] Attoy [ybox]: back, crashed the whole network.
  184. [5/5/2014 2:28:59 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Catalog = EveGate search I suppose...
  185. [5/5/2014 2:34:32 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Bastn ticker is avail. Others not
  186. [5/5/2014 2:44:32 PM] rreynolds3: That is a good one.
  187. [5/5/2014 3:18:50 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: This is a copy paste from my corp thread on names:
  188.
  189. Hoplite Army [PHLNX]
  190.
  191. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoplite
  192.
  193. Quote
  194.
  195. Hoplites were citizen-soldiers of Ancient Greek city-states who were primarily armed with spears and shields. Their main tactic was the phalanx formation. They were primarily free citizens—propertied farmers and artisans—who were able to afford the bronze armor suit and weapons (estimated at a third to a half of its able-bodied adult male population).[1] Hoplites generally received basic military training.
  196.
  197.
  198.
  199. Essentially, free citizens who fought in the armies of the Greek city-states in times of war.
  200.
  201. Not full-time soldiers - represents the "no sov hassles" aspect
  202. PHLNX = phalanx, the primary battle formation used by hoplites; generally refers to large groups, but can scale so can loosely apply to small skirmish forces as well (think "300")
  203. Not tied to Goon identity
  204. Not tied to Gents identity
  205. Not overly serious - little risk of "not living up to the name" like Endie discussed
  206. Not overly cute or silly
  207. [5/5/2014 3:20:20 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: I'd been kicking around Greek and Roman themes, hoplite has some interesting elements
  208. [5/5/2014 3:21:22 PM] Symbiotes: I like "The Bastion" more, if only because its a more generic term that isn't fixed to some time period, culture, country or gender
  209. [5/5/2014 3:22:59 PM] Symbiotes: hmm and I have no idea if that message ever made it... yay connection
  210. [5/5/2014 3:23:06 PM] Symbiotes: oh there it goes
  211. [5/5/2014 3:23:29 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Yeah. I'm liking Bastion
  212. [5/5/2014 3:23:30 PM] rreynolds3: That has nice flavor, and a nod to history. It has some messaging synergy.
  213. [5/5/2014 3:23:49 PM] rreynolds3: I am liking Bastion best so far as well.
  214. [5/5/2014 3:24:08 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Maybe not army? Some other designation?
  215. [5/5/2014 3:24:58 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Los of good ideas. Nothing that's a huge standout. Definately a couple that will work
  216. [5/5/2014 3:25:55 PM] Symbiotes: reading through backlog regarding sov suggestions, I'd like to throw my support behind having the bug pocket in the new alliance - quite some backlog created while I was enjoying freedom day outside o.0
  217. [5/5/2014 3:48:30 PM] numismancer: There needs to be a The in the name, gives implicit authority
  218. [5/5/2014 3:48:46 PM] numismancer: So The Bastion > Bastion
  219. [5/5/2014 3:51:40 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Agreed
  220. [5/5/2014 4:36:58 PM] Gigaplex: I like "Aurora Borealis" :)
  221. [5/5/2014 4:37:13 PM] Gigaplex: "The light in the Dark"
  222. [5/5/2014 4:38:20 PM] rreynolds3: classy
  223. [5/5/2014 4:39:16 PM] endie.h: It actually means northern lights
  224. [5/5/2014 4:39:41 PM] endie.h: Still apt, at least at the moment
  225. [5/5/2014 4:52:49 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: With li3 combining with the gents corps we'll be at 3000 pilots on day 1, maybe 3500.
  226. [5/5/2014 4:57:51 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: We'll need to have a plan for alliance activity pretty soon after we go live and get everyone in the home system. Needs to be more than gate camping and roams. We should get some folks out and looking for target areas for us to move to as soon as is practical. We will need to build some alliance cohesion, best to do it in a content rich environment
  227. [5/5/2014 4:58:29 PM] twiggermeister: The Crimson Tide [-TCT-]
  228. [5/5/2014 4:58:41 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Football? Pass
  229. [5/5/2014 4:59:08 PM] twiggermeister: You think Bama when I say that? That's not what I expected lol
  230. [5/5/2014 5:00:27 PM] twiggermeister: I was thinking more pirate era/mediterranean invasion
  231. [5/5/2014 5:01:24 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: I think bacteria overgrowth
  232. [5/5/2014 5:02:21 PM] wilkco -AIRK: got my FC out and about looking for some good areas to kill stuff in
  233. [5/5/2014 5:43:17 PM] twiggermeister: Qlimax [PEAK]
  234. [5/5/2014 5:43:26 PM] twiggermeister: Sorry, I'm bored and drowning in cold medicine.
  235. [5/5/2014 6:04:21 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Omg. Make it stop
  236. [5/5/2014 6:42:39 PM] spookyalias: The Blood-Dimmed Tide [YEATS]
  237. [5/5/2014 6:45:30 PM] spookyalias: Alliance tickers and corporation tickers don't share the same namespace, as I recall, so there's probably a fair bit of freedom there.
  238. [5/5/2014 7:03:41 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Too obscure. Just make it The Second Coming [-2-]
  239.
  240. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=qBhoU_3aM5DKsQSHloKQDA&url=http://www.potw.org/archive/potw351.html&cd=1&ved=0CCQQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNEmryVcPg7Xu0lwgRYFar7PmHsu6Q&sig2=Q0jg8fGqMw6w9Yz1hKWeaw
  241. [5/5/2014 7:04:48 PM] spookyalias: The reference is obscure, but the name doesn't hinge on it. I wouldn't actually use YEATS for the ticker. XD
  242. [5/5/2014 7:44:59 PM] bo.elder: Smite [SMITE]
  243. [5/5/2014 7:46:11 PM] Phineas Freak: cheese much
  244. [5/5/2014 7:46:42 PM] Phineas Freak: wrong chat, do not feel offended pelase rhaybeck :) my eve just crashed i guess
  245. [5/5/2014 7:46:48 PM] bo.elder: hehe
  246. [5/5/2014 7:47:47 PM] Phineas Freak: yup there go all clients and browser tabs
  247. [5/5/2014 7:47:58 PM] Phineas Freak: amazing that skye still works, as crappy as it is :)
  248. [5/5/2014 7:48:38 PM] Phineas Freak: but that explains the 1 minute delay between your post and me gettinga sound notification haha
  249. [5/5/2014 7:50:11 PM] bo.elder: :)
  250. [5/5/2014 7:55:46 PM] Phineas Freak: yup it#s my router/isp coupled with m flatmates hosting a supcom match night. nvm getting used to it
  251. [5/5/2014 7:56:41 PM] bo.elder: hehe
  252. [5/5/2014 7:56:57 PM] bo.elder: well, just don't hold a supcom match night during a cap op, I guess
  253. [5/5/2014 7:59:07 PM] Phineas Freak: right, there was something wasn't it
  254. [5/5/2014 8:32:57 PM] rreynolds3: We need a domain name for some of the IT work.
  255. [5/5/2014 8:33:09 PM] rreynolds3: Once we get the alliance name, obviously.
  256. [5/5/2014 8:41:41 PM] Phineas Freak: well that can be solved by subdomains using a decently neutral eve-related domain name if you are too much into the domain pride thing. (in case it is taken/reserved by some domain shark)
  257. [5/5/2014 8:48:16 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Of the ones on the list, what is striking people the most strongly?
  258.
  259. There seemed to be agreement that The Bastion [BASTN] was pretty good. We have also had people like No Hassle. But the bastion seemed to generate more favorable response
  260. [5/5/2014 8:49:27 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Hoplite is interesting, but it needs something to make it stand out more. Hoplite regiment?
  261. [5/5/2014 8:54:07 PM] twiggermeister: The Last Bastion and No Hassle are my two frontrunners
  262. [5/5/2014 8:55:38 PM] bo.elder: not a fan of No Hassle
  263. [5/5/2014 8:56:14 PM] rreynolds3: The Bastion and The Last Bastion are so far my favorites. In that order.
  264. [5/5/2014 10:42:21 PM] spookyalias: As for voice comm systems, I'd have a strong preference for Mumble -- it's what the CFC uses, and it's one less program for folks to configure.
  265. [5/5/2014 10:52:00 PM] twiggermeister: Damn Nova we don't seem to agree on anything :P
  266. [5/5/2014 10:52:41 PM] twiggermeister: While I prefer Mumble, TS seems to be a lot more stable and has better overall sound quality.
  267. [5/5/2014 10:53:09 PM] twiggermeister: So the odds of Reagalan rendering me 37% deaf is decreased
  268. [5/5/2014 10:53:19 PM] Phineas Freak: i had a an eloquent pro-ventrillo proclamation all drawn out and now that. no sriouls,y mumble plase. deals better with heavy load iho
  269. [5/5/2014 10:54:01 PM] Phineas Freak: or am i wrong about this?
  270. [5/5/2014 11:04:44 PM] twiggermeister: In terms of cost of server to heavy load ratio TS is better for the people who run it, and better for on-the-fly adjustments in codecs in my experience. An example being everyone needing to download the new mumble codec recently or you couldn't hear anything.
  271. [5/5/2014 11:05:26 PM] twiggermeister: In terms of local/global chatter and fleet command, mumble is better. That caters to a minority, albiet an important one
  272. [5/5/2014 11:06:55 PM] Attoy [ybox]: If I'm not wrong TS needs more resources than Mumble on the server as a RAM and processor cycles.
  273. [5/5/2014 11:07:54 PM] Attoy [ybox]: But hey, I'm talking about little servers for about 100 ppl; it'd be better to ask to someone who actually run high traffic, high users servers
  274. [5/5/2014 11:08:27 PM] twiggermeister: It's been 3 years since I've run a TS server so I do apologize if the financial metrics have changed since then.
  275. [5/5/2014 11:09:50 PM] spookyalias: This is going to be a relatively moderate server; I'd be surprised if it had to handle more than 200 at once any time soon. Server setup is a one time thing... telling every scrub how to use a second voice comm program is a recurring headache.
  276. [5/5/2014 11:10:03 PM] Attoy [ybox]: I was forced to migrate to Mumble time ago due to TS licensing limitation, never looked back, so my infos could be not so accurate on comparing the two
  277. [5/5/2014 11:10:56 PM] Attoy [ybox]: I agree with you Nova, however a lot of corps I spoke with have gents mumble and then a ts server for corp purpose
  278. [5/5/2014 11:11:19 PM] Attoy [ybox]: So I guess it all depends on who will be our IT guy and with what he's comfortable to work on
  279. [5/5/2014 11:11:59 PM] Attoy [ybox]: also, forgive me, just joined, do we need to buy a domain name after we choose the name?
  280. [5/5/2014 11:12:20 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Do we also need to buy some VPS/VPS Cloud plan to run the whole IT infrastructure?
  281. [5/5/2014 11:12:58 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Or we simply use GSF infrastructure perhaps with some "private" section on the forum/mumble/wiki ?
  282. [5/5/2014 11:15:10 PM] Phineas Freak: i favour mumble for the one reason that it is used in the cfc a lot and we may be looking for growing numbers rathr sooner than later. and adeparated server, gsf already have their own backup just in case, they need their ressources for coalition ops as proven in the past.
  283. [5/5/2014 11:15:34 PM] Phineas Freak: a separate srever. sry for typos
  284. [5/5/2014 11:18:16 PM] Phineas Freak: unless of course the gsf services can handle 100-300 idle/active people more, worst case.
  285. [5/5/2014 11:22:09 PM] Attoy [ybox]: luc, sorry if I already asked you, who are you in-game?
  286. [5/5/2014 11:22:25 PM] Phineas Freak: phineas freak - tetic
  287. [5/5/2014 11:22:36 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Starting off with 3000 pilots in alliance, we may find we outgrow things eventually. I'm ask for whatever is stable, reliable, and offers the customization and configuration we are going to need. Li3 was offering their infrastructure and IT services. We need to be of the gsf infrastructure do we can respond and modify as we see fit without having to go through gsf. I don't imagine that we'd get the admin access we would need to make changes
  288. [5/5/2014 11:22:55 PM] Phineas Freak: i am sorry skyp droped all settingsi had st up, dunno who you are either. hate it. i ahd it all right yday
  289. [5/5/2014 11:23:08 PM] Attoy [ybox]: <- Attoy [ybox]
  290. [5/5/2014 11:23:16 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Chance
  291. [5/5/2014 11:24:37 PM] Attoy [ybox]: ok fixed, ty
  292. [5/5/2014 11:24:51 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Also the transcript has ask the names at the top
  293. [5/5/2014 11:24:57 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Chance are we starting with 3000 pilots already? o.O
  294. [5/5/2014 11:25:00 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: *All the
  295. [5/5/2014 11:25:07 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Yes, likely
  296. [5/5/2014 11:25:09 PM] twiggermeister: 3000 is possible
  297. [5/5/2014 11:25:15 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Prob 3500
  298. [5/5/2014 11:25:32 PM] Attoy [ybox]: yeah Chance, but to edit 'show' name need to add as a contact first;
  299. [5/5/2014 11:25:34 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: 1100 in li3
  300. [5/5/2014 11:25:42 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Plus 90% of gents
  301. [5/5/2014 11:25:46 PM] Attoy [ybox]: hah ok, is it official then?
  302. [5/5/2014 11:25:51 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: No
  303. [5/5/2014 11:25:53 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Li3 is going to disband too?
  304. [5/5/2014 11:25:55 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: But likely
  305. [5/5/2014 11:26:06 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: They were discussing it today
  306. [5/5/2014 11:26:34 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Carneros can address that more directly I think
  307. [5/5/2014 11:28:16 PM] Phineas Freak: i think most people are fine with ts3 and mumble, it really only depends on hosting and who will run it. i do not see us having any part in deciding that unless we provide the tech support. and with lake back semi-afk and incizion uncertain gents have no real manpower here.
  308. [5/5/2014 11:28:39 PM] twiggermeister: At this point we can rule out ventrilo, I hope.
  309. [5/5/2014 11:28:48 PM] Phineas Freak: aha ye i was trollin'
  310. [5/5/2014 11:30:37 PM] Phineas Freak: if gsf services can handle us it woudl be a lot easier though to facilitate registration and accesscontrol to voice comms as the infrastructure is already in place, tried and true.
  311. [5/5/2014 11:31:59 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: The li3 tech guy will likely run our it infrastructure. Check scroll back on that.
  312.
  313. Soon we will need to break out into teams to get pieces in place. But we are still waiting on mittani et Al to give the green light.
  314. [5/5/2014 11:32:28 PM] Phineas Freak: ah ok chance ty i did miss that in the backlog. NIce!
  315. [5/5/2014 11:33:10 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Phineas, it's a responsiveness issue. We will need admin etc. Which we can't get on gsf it infrastructure
  316. [5/5/2014 11:33:26 PM] Attoy [ybox]: tbh we need more than one
  317. [5/5/2014 11:33:42 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: One what?
  318. [5/5/2014 11:33:56 PM] Attoy [ybox]: GIT was good, but some little things were only for Lake/Kesper
  319. [5/5/2014 11:34:02 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Admin/IT Team
  320. [5/5/2014 11:34:48 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Yes. Agreed. We will be copying the gsf model
  321.
  322. Someone will be in charge of it. How they get it done will be up to them
  323. [5/5/2014 11:35:03 PM] Phineas Freak: good, i like the fact that li3 can provide the knowledge and the people to run it. i stepped into the trap that i myself warned about, i.e see everthing only from a gents perspective.
  324. [5/5/2014 11:35:30 PM] Phineas Freak: a lesson in being more humble.
  325. [5/5/2014 11:35:47 PM] Attoy [ybox]: on a IT side I completely ignore how GSF is working
  326. [5/5/2014 11:35:56 PM] Attoy [ybox]: well, ok, there's Solo
  327. [5/5/2014 11:36:21 PM] Attoy [ybox]: ok, this is where my knowledge on GSF IT infrastrucutre ends :P
  328. [5/5/2014 11:37:05 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Hehe
  329. [5/5/2014 11:38:54 PM] Attoy [ybox]: however as a forum PoV , I'd like IP.B like GSF, it's a long nicer than SMF
  330. [5/5/2014 11:38:58 PM] Attoy [ybox]: Xenforo is nice too
  331. [5/5/2014 11:39:25 PM] Attoy [ybox]: however SMF / phpBB = free; IP.B / Xenfore = paid license
  332. [12:17:36 AM] rreynolds3: Our IT guys are working on a completely fresh implementation of Forums, Wiki, Jabber, and comms -- probably Mumble due to the numbers. TS used to be cheaper but now Mumble is for these kinds of numbers.
  333. [12:18:08 AM] rreynolds3: We will need a domain name but we will grab that when the name is selected. We have servers already being configured though.
  334. [12:21:44 AM] Phineas Freak: chance and to whom it may concern, if i may bug you once more: is the "currently undecided" summary stilul p to date concerning srne and prax?
  335. [12:22:35 AM] Phineas Freak: and rreynolds ty for the heads up.
  336. [12:23:04 AM] rreynolds3: rreynolds = Carneros for anyone must tuning in
  337. [12:25:26 AM] Phineas Freak: ty this contact thing drives me nuts :) but alas it is working, and i guess we will have contact in the future even if the world falls apart.
  338. [12:36:13 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Phineas yes as far as I know
  339. [12:36:35 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Leaning but not committed
  340. [12:49:51 AM] Phineas Freak: that good enough, i was just comparing it to the summary
  341. [12:50:00 AM] Phineas Freak: i had saved from earlier
  342. [12:50:44 AM] Phineas Freak: we will have a corp meeting on thursday, if details need more time to be worked on that is not an issue, we got time.
  343. [12:52:00 AM] Phineas Freak: it's just convenient to know how is leaning towards what direction, it is not the major reqiremnt though - we are all waiting for some details after all
  344. [1:26:22 AM] Attoy [ybox]: hey Carneros thank you to your IT guys for the help
  345. [1:27:05 AM] Attoy [ybox]: I hope he will soon create a 'team' to manage the IT infrastruture
  346. [1:28:51 AM] Attoy [ybox]: my directors thought about those names:
  347. 1) Vanguard Lighthouse [VALIT]
  348. 2) Void Vertigo [VOVER]
  349. 3) Third Column [3COL]
  350. 4) Odds of Gravity [OOG]
  351. 5) Tin Cans [TIER4]
  352. 6) Fat Cats [FACTS]
  353. [1:29:18 AM] Attoy [ybox]: just if you wanna add them to the godcs
  354. [1:29:39 AM] Attoy [ybox]: tbh I like odds of gravity
  355. [1:30:27 AM] Phineas Freak: THE odds of gracity
  356. [1:30:58 AM] Phineas Freak: man i can't even get 4 words right in a row
  357. [1:31:27 AM] Phineas Freak: i mean, what are the odds?
  358. [1:36:40 AM] Attoy [ybox]: not literally, I mean, I like how it sounds
  359. [1:51:52 AM] Phineas Freak: me too
  360. [2:12:56 AM] spookyalias: Gravitas Oddity [BANKS]
  361. [2:15:45 AM] Phineas Freak: heh
  362. [2:15:57 AM] Phineas Freak: that is not bad
  363. [2:51:00 AM] endie.h: Odds of gravity would be a fantastic name for a prog rock album. Not so sure about it as an alliance name, though.
  364. [3:19:47 AM] Attoy [ybox]: ahah
  365. [9:57:15 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Transcript up to date. YBOX name suggestions added to list.
  366. The Bastion [BASNT] and The Last Bastion [BASTN] still seem to have generally positive feedback in here. Others have been proffered. Nothing else sticking yet.
  367. [10:00:23 AM] Attoy [ybox]: aye, thanks for your work Chance
  368. [10:01:09 AM | Edited 10:02:16 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: I have started to assemble an FC roster from GENTS. Also spoke with Dante Lobos who is Senior FC from Li3 last night. He will be giving me a list of active and interested Li3 FCs.
  369.
  370. I will start to assemble the FC pool this week so we have a working list of FCs and their level of experience with different fleet compositions and sizes.
  371. [10:06:39 AM] Attoy [ybox]: it seems we are "ready to go" however we still don't know who really is in the project and who's simply lurking or did I miss something?
  372. [10:16:06 AM] Attoy [ybox]: also, is it official? Li3 is going to disband too or we are going to collect corps that are uncomfortable in Li3?
  373. [10:21:10 AM] endie.h: Carneros being here makes it pretty official, just not even slightly public.
  374. [10:27:17 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: I'm assuming that folks in here and participating have a strong interest, if not yet 100% committed.
  375.
  376. We are basically ready to go at this point. Just need the name and someone to push the "go" button.
  377.
  378. Then the real work begins
  379. [10:34:35 AM] endie.h: Is the prestigious goonfleet dot com jabber service down?
  380. [10:34:56 AM] Attoy [ybox]: not for me endie, I'm logged in regularly
  381. [10:35:05 AM] endie.h: Right now?
  382. [10:35:15 AM] Attoy [ybox]: yep
  383. [10:35:29 AM] Attoy [ybox]: I see usual spam in gs_isk right now
  384. [10:35:54 AM] endie.h: Man, the sassenachs must have pre-empted the independence vote by cutting off our internet connection to the outside world
  385. [10:36:04 AM] endie.h: This is where the debate gets all dark, now we cannot call for help
  386. [10:37:10 AM] Attoy [ybox]: I admit my ignorance, I looked for "sassenachs" in google...
  387. [10:37:40 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: I also ran a gents Q and A session last night. Just answered some basic questions and such.
  388. [10:38:05 AM] Attoy [ybox]: Yeah Chance, I read the ping, sadly I was hugely afk :/
  389. [10:38:38 AM] twiggermeister: I was in Kcolors fleet or I would've attended
  390. [10:38:53 AM] twiggermeister: We killed alot of drones. It was tedious.
  391. [10:41:33 AM] Attoy [ybox]: just asking, how much of those we discussed here is "public"?
  392. [10:43:24 AM] rreynolds3: Not the name. Not the Li3 participation part until downtime on Wednesday.
  393. [10:44:02 AM] Attoy [ybox]: hey, 'evening rick o/
  394. [10:44:09 AM] Attoy [ybox]: ok, understood
  395. [10:44:13 AM] rreynolds3: The rest is probably a case of using your best judgement. And thank you.
  396. [10:45:23 AM | Edited 10:46:01 AM] endie.h: Don't say anything to anyone that you are not delighted, when it appears on en24 and Mittens says "was this your doing?", to proudly say "yes! Yes it was!"
  397. [10:45:27 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: None of it is public until we are ready to form up. I share the transcript with a couple of my corp directors. But general membership just got broad strokes
  398. [10:45:40 AM] endie.h: That's always a fine rule on opsec judgements.
  399. [10:47:53 AM] Attoy [ybox]: that's exactly what I meant; at the moment I shared the transcript with my directors, general membership = we are working for you, keep faith :P
  400. [10:48:10 AM] Attoy [ybox]: all covered by "opsec tag"
  401. [10:48:33 AM] rreynolds3: Perfect.
  402. [10:49:02 AM] Attoy [ybox]: that's why I was curious about your Q&A Chance, perhaps I can tell something more to my corpmembers
  403. [10:49:58 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: I was vague, but reassuring
  404. [10:51:02 AM] Attoy [ybox]: Was the Q&A attended also by who we already knows will leave?
  405. [10:51:12 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: It's about perception. Keeping communication open is important. Providing just enough info to dispel rumors also helps
  406. [10:51:35 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: 2 fsj were there
  407. [10:52:45 AM] Attoy [ybox]: this pencil animation will drive me crazy... can I disable it?! I love the classic "user is writing..." text
  408. [10:53:44 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Use it on a phone. No animations
  409. [10:54:42 AM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: (But I like knowing if someone is responding)
  410. [10:58:21 AM] endie.h: You could try turning off "use animated emoticons" i guess
  411. [10:58:31 AM] endie.h: type something and I'll tell you if that works
  412. [10:59:06 AM] endie.h: No
  413. [10:59:08 AM] endie.h: still shows
  414. [10:59:27 AM] endie.h: Still worth turning off for the annoying emotes inline
  415. [1:54:02 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Quiet today
  416. [1:55:19 PM] Senshi [ohcrp]: The serious business (for us) stopped a few days ago. I've taken to waiting and periodically trolling you Chance, such as the Qlimax alliance suggestion ;)
  417. [1:58:29 PM] Chance el'Allin - P0LR: Over the top coalition
