- *TITLE*: BW ID/SID Abuse Guide *POSTER*:Princess of Johto
-
Hey there! I noticed there was a lack of a step-by-step ID/SID guide for BW, so I decided to write this one. This guide is supposed to be very user friendly, so I hope you can successfully abuse your ID/SID using just this guide! I also included a short part about obtaining a shiny starter.
- This guide should also help you if you are using B2/W2.
- Prerequisites:
-
-
RNG Reporter 9.92 or newer, of course.
-
-
RNG Reporter 9.94 or later is required if you're on a DSi! Pandora's Box is incorrect for DSi users in versions earlier than 9.94.
-
-
A Pokemon Black (2) or White (2) game cartridge/emulator.
-
A DS, DS Lite, DSi, or 3DS.
-
-
Make sure you have your parameters!
-
-
A basic understanding of how to hit a Standard Seed.
-
-
This is important!
-
-
- Alright, once you have these things we can move on. Here comes the hard stuff. /me is being sarcastic
- Step 1: Finding an IV Seed!
- First of all, you need to find an IV spread that you want to have shiny. Open up RNG Reporter and go into the Time Finder.
- *** If you're only abusing for a specific ID number and you don't care about lower shiny spreads (i.e. for a cool TID number), you can skip directly to step 3! Look for the ***'s once you get to step 3, since most of this guide is for people who want to abuse for shinyness.
-
- This is how you'd set up the search. Pick a year, month, and min/max IV frame. If you want a shiny starter, your IV frame MUST be 1. This is because there's no way to advance the IV frame that early in the game. An IV frame of 1 is generally recommended because it makes RNG abuse so much easier. However, it's not necessary unless you want a shiny starter. Make sure the method is Method 5 Standard Seed, and choose your desired encounter type. Wild Pokemon is probably the best, because it works for almost all of the other encounters (and it works for starters). Leave the encounter slot at any. Then, fill in your desired IV spread. Pay no attention to anything on the right! It doesn't matter. Make sure your parameters are entered in the Time Finder correctly before you start the search!
- Once you find a seed, you'll be ready for the next step. If you don't find a seed with your desired IVs, try a different month.
- Step 2: Choosing a PID Frame to be Shiny!
- You found an IV seed, right? Good! Now you have to choose a PID frame from that seed to be shiny (PID determines nature, gender, ability, encounter slot, shinyness).
-
- Copy the seed, and go back to the main window of RNG Reporter.
-
- Change the method to Method 5 PID RNG, then paste the seed in the main window. Next, click the button on the right that says "Calculate Initial PIDRNG Frame". Finally, generate the list of PID Frames. I showed you the steps in order above, just to make it easier (I'm a visual learner myself, and pictures make things a lot easier to understand).
- Now that you have a list of PID frames, you need to choose one of them that you want to be shiny. You need to consider nature, ability, encounter slot, and gender if you're that picky. Please note that the bold natures are synchronizable, so even if there's a bold nature without the nature you want, it is still possible to get your desired nature because you just need to have a Pokemon with the ability Synchronize. If you're looking for a shiny starter, I recommend a frame in the 60s or 70s. If not, pick anything you'd like, but also consider wandering NPCs. You don't want to pick a frame that's too low. Once you have chosen a frame, we can move on to the next step. =D
- Step 3: Finding an ID Seed!
-
- *** If you're not looking to abuse your ID/SID for shinyness, skip this paragraph and go to the next one! Again, look for the ***'s
- I decided to go with frame 60 because it has a syncable nature, a nice encounter slot, and it's female for all gender ratios (I've always wanted a female starter). In this step, we need to find an ID seed to hit. Let's go into Pandora's Box now! To get to Pandora's Box, go to the main window of RNG Reporter and look for 5th Gen Tools at the top. Choose Pandora's Box from the drop down menu.
-
- Once you're in PBox, make sure your parameters are entered correctly. Where it says "Search By" , check the box next to seed and paste your seed there. Then, in the box directly under, type in the PID frame that you want to be shiny. In my example, I wanted frame 60 shiny, so that's what I put in the text box. If you want a specific date, go to the seed finder part and change it. All the way on the right, make the min Frame 30 (Ignore the picture; it says 28) and the max 40. Now, click "Find ID Seeds" and wait for the search to finish.
- *** Check the box that says TID and enter in the TID you want. Change the min frame on the far right to 30 and the max to 40, and if you want a specific date then change it. Then hit find ID seeds and wait for the search to end. From this point on, the steps are more or less the same for anyone who wants shinyness and anyone who just wants a specific TID.
-
- Once the search finishes, you should have a list of ID seeds. Search through them and pick one with an ID/SID you like. Ignore the initial frame column, because that's wrong sometimes. A target frame of 30-40 is good. Something lower might be a bit risky. Also, keep in mind that if you want a shiny starter, make sure the starter column says "True". Pick a seed, and move on to the next step, where I'll teach you how to hit this ID seed!
- Update 5/4/2013: If you are using B2/W2, it has been reported that frames in the 30s tend to be too low, so it is recommended that you choose an ID frame of 35+. Search for ID seeds with a frame range of 35-45.
- Step 4: Hitting Your ID Seed!
-
- Just re posting that picture so you can use it as a reference. Ok, so I'm going to use the seed I picked as an example. I would go about hitting this seed just like a regular Standard seed. Set the time and date, begin the game 1 second early, hold keypresses, blah blah blah. But, with ID/SID abuse in BW, there's an ID Frame involved. Looking at PBox, my target frame is 28. I have to completely ignore the initial frame column because it could very well be wrong, so I'll have to calibrate to find my initial frame. Here's how you would do that:
- Hit the seed like you normally would, and go through the entire process thing with Juniper. Make sure you don't say no to her when she asks for your name, because this would advance the ID Frame by 1 (It only advances if you say no about your name, not gender)! Once you're in the game and you can check your ID, do that. Now go back to PBox:
-
- We need to use the seed finder to find out what seed and frame we hit. Enter the ID you got, the date/time of your seed, etc. Make the min frame 25, maybe 20ish (again, ignore the picture. It says 28 but make it lower), and the max 40. Then click find seed hit, and look at the results that appear. If you got a result that has the same seconds and timer0 as your target seed, then look at the frame it has. That is your initial frame. If you didn't hit your seed, you most likely just missed your timer0. Just try again! But, what if you did hit your seed, and your initial frame is higher than your target frame? You'll have to pick a new seed. This is why I recommended something with a frame of 30 or higher!
- Now that you found your initial frame just repeat the seed hitting process, except this time make sure you advance the frame accordingly. For example, if my initial frame was 25 and my target is 28, I would say no to Juniper about my name 3 times, and if I didn't miss my timer0, I would have gotten my target ID! That's all there is too it. Quite simple if you ask me :)
- If you want a shiny starter, read on! And make sure you save right before you choose your starter.
- Optional: Shiny Starter!
-
- Remember this seed we found? Well, in order to get our shiny starter, we now need to hit this seed! Similar to the ID seed, we need to hit a target PID frame (the one we picked to be shiny, in my case, PID frame 60). But before we can do that, we need to calibrate to find our initial PID Frame! Here's how:
-
- We basically want the same set up we had before, when we were picking which PID frame to be shiny. Except, make the starting frame (the text box right above where we pasted our seed) about 10 frames lower than what's in there. This is because when abusing starter's, the initial frame tends to be before the initial frame that RNG Reporter calculated. Now hit generate.
- What you want to do is just hit your IV seed like a normal standard seed (make sure you're saved in front of the gift box). Once you get into the game, pick your wanted starter right away. Get through the battles with Cheren and Bianca as quickly as possible, and then look at your Pokemon's summary and determine if you hit your seed. If you got a good characteristic (often dozes off, likes to thrash about, capable of taking hits, mischievous, somewhat vain, or alert to sounds all signify a flawless stat) then you most likely hit your seed. If not, you missed your timer0, so just re hit your seed until you do get a good characteristic. Once you do, look at the nature and gender (although, the gender will mostly be male) and match it to a PID frame you generated on RNG Reporter. For example, if I got a male Serious Oshawott, my initial frame would be 54. If you got a female, you could check which frames are female by looking at the 12.5%F column, since starters have a 12.5% female rate.
- Once you find your initial frame, hit your seed again and advance the frame by saving. Each save equals 1 PID frame advancement. I would do 6 saves because my initial was 54 and my target was 60. If you hit your timer0 and did the right number of saves, you should end up with a shiny starter!
- The End

That's it, I hope this guide was of assistance to you! If there's anything I missed or anything you think I should explain better, please let me know!
- Thanks so much to all of Smogon's researchers, RNG abuse wouldn't be possible without them!
