  1. Hi [Name],
  2.
  3. Last week, Prime Minister Scott Morrison advised landlords and tenants sit down together to find a way to survive this challenging period. He indicated that this is 'a burden for everyone to share'.
  4.
  5. Pending further information from the state government, the National Cabinet suggested cost-sharing between parties.
  6.
  7. If the landlord can advise us of the cost of mortgage repayments for our property, then we can attempt to cover that amount. Otherwise, we propose a 50% decrease in rent for the next six months.
  8.
  9. We will not be able to pay back the other 50% at a later date since workers do not get money back on lost income. However, this arrangement means the landlord has a reliable guarantee of return on investment during a period of considerable uncertainty.
  10.
  11. The pandemic will continue for some time and the Treasurer has said that a recession seems inevitable. We believe that a reasonable reduction in rent is in everyone's best interests.
  12.
  13. Please find attached a letter and documentation to demonstrate hardship. Likewise, we request to know whether the landlord is receiving a mortgage reprieve or tax concessions.
  14.
  15. We would appreciate it if you could let us know as soon as you forward this email and all attachments to the landlord.
  16.
  17. Kind regards,
  18. [Names]
