- Overview:
- Reeling from the series of clashes with the Jade Falcons and Hell's Horses,
- Clan Wolf-in-Exile needed to both rearm and revitalize it's touman. A totem
- mech that was both capable and fearsome was required, and the Clan could suffer
- no delay.
- Capabilities:
- Built as a quadrupedal BattleMech, the Stalking Wolf's features are sculpted to
- give the 'Mech the fearsome look of its namesake, with a snarling muzzle and
- heavy set body style. To give the new 'Mech as much weaponry and armor as
- possible, both an Extra Light engine and an Endo Steel skeleton were utilized,
- giving the Stalking Wolf an excellent tonnage capacity at the expense of
- internal space. Additionally, a set of WiE built Talons were added, giving the
- Stalking Wolf an even deadlier kick and keeping the theme running. Deciding a
- heavy punch was required at long range, the design team installed a Gauss Rifle
- in the Right Torso and increased the weapon's lethality by mounting the weapon
- in a specially built turret mount, allowing the weapon to rotate 360 degrees.
- Next came an LRM-15 battery, mounted on the spine of the Stalking Wolf, giving
- the machine some indirect bombardment capability, with the LRM's reloads stored
- in the CASE II protected Left Torso. Finally, a pair of Medium Pulse Lasers
- were added to give the Stalking Wolf limited firepower for when it's other
- weapons ran dry.
- Deployment:
- Since the Stalking Wolf's release in late 3145, two trinaries of the BattleMech
- have made their way into the Clan Wolf-in-Exile touman. There the design has
- become a symbol of sorts, especially after elements of the 3rd Wolf Guards
- crushed the 13th Falcon Dragoons on Arcturus during a cross border raid.
- The 3rd Wolf Guards's Beta and Delta Trinary assaulted Arcturus in an effort to
- prevent a build up of troops on the planet. Delta Trinary officer Star
- Commander Rosario Hall lead a charge on the defending Falcons, leaping off of a
- small mesa to smash the cockpit of a Falcon Shrike as the opening motions to
- the final battle that saw the 13th Falcon Dragoons ejected from the world and
- the Wolves hold Arcturus for two weeks.
- After such a showing, Spheroid buyers have expressed an interest in the
- Stalking Wolf, but Assault Tech will be unable to fulfill any orders on that
- front until early 3147.
- Variants:
- The Stalking Wolf 2 trades out the Gauss Rifle and LRM launcher for a Plasma
- Cannon, an Improved Heavy Large Laser, and a pair of SRM-6 launchers,
- respectively. The 2 was hastily deployed in an effort to slow the Jade Falcon
- advance by setting the Golden Ordun's mechs aflame. It's battlefield
- performance has so far been acceptable, though it's heat burden takes some
- getting used to.
