  1. Chance was a funny thing. Some declared it fate, divine providence. Others noted it only as statistical probability, naturally decisive. Alexandra however, considered it mostly irrelevant; at least since the accident. Where before, chance seemed to forsake the human at every turn, was now on much friendlier terms...
  2.
  3. The unnatural sky shimmered with countless stars, undaunted by the bright city lights below. Quite normally, no-one was out and the streets were quiet. A fireball briefly reached over the rooftops, followed shortly by a thunderous blast which shattered glass and silence.
  4.
  5. Location: Over City
  6. Time: 2:34 AM (aprox)
  7.
  8. Alexandra crouched beneath a buckled metal door within the rubble, snickering like a fool as she removed herself from under its weight, curled into a ball as she rolled. The long haired brunette looked exceptionally out of place among the concrete wreckage that surrounded her. In truth, it would appear as though she had only just ended a shift of dealing a poker table; at none too reputable a venue. As she straightened herself out, a small creature, looking similar to a winged black house cat tumbled from her midriff. "What the hell Alexandra?" It shouted over the girl's laughter, "We could have died!"
  9.
  10. The diminutive creature stood oddly upon its hind legs, forepaws resting on its hips in a crude parody of disappointment. "Yeah, but we didn't!" Alexandra quipped. "And I told you, after I transform, I'm Toeval!" Her overexaggerated posture of defiance cut short by the sifting of rubble nearby. The pair froze as the movement continued nearby. "It's not dead?" Alexandra asked, her grin taking a more nervous appearance. "It's MAKING the explosions, why would it be dead?"
  11.
  12. From around the edge of the ruined building the pair occupied, a large reptile emerged, eyes focused squarely on them. The beast appeared as an enormous crocodile, 20 feet from nose to tail. It's scales roiled with a fiery energy, giving its surface the look of smoldering embers. Upon seeing the duo, it opened its mouth in a great roar, heating the air around while displaying rows of semi-molten teeth. "That's it?" the girl asked to no-one specific while wearing an expression that could only be described as disappointment. "Since it got the drop on us, I thought it'd be something more cunning."
  13.
  14. Small chunks of rubble lifted themselves from the ground and began to rotate around Alexandra's head as she strode towards the fiery reptile confidently. The pieces of artificial lime stone began to crackle with energy and shear of portions of themselves as the monster's maw began to fill with white-hot energy. "Alexan-" the tiny creature whined as the girl stood in front of an imminent blast. "Relax dummy, this thing won't disobey." As flames licked the air outside the beast's mouth, the faces of the now cuboid concrete pieces began to glow with patterns recognizable as dice.
  15.
  16. "Shut your mouth." Alexandra spoke in a commanding tone, eyes glowing with magic. The fiery croc blinked once, then at the apex of its attack, sealed its own jaws with a powerful crunch. Not a moment later, the molten fury erupted from within the beast, eliciting a loud, but muffled boom as smoke began to pour from its nostrils. With a snap, the glowing dice around Alexandra's head hummed for a brief moment, before each firing a bolt of pure magic at the monster's skull. Each consecutive shot impacting the smoldering surface like a hammer upon molten steel, sending up a shower of sparks as cracks spiderwebbed over the surface more and more. As the final bolt struck, the fire vanished from the beast, like a snuffed forge. Fading of their own magic, the dice around Alexandra's head took a natural tone themselves.
  17.
  18. "And that's that" Alexandra chortled before spinning towards her companion, the now ashen monster slowly dissolving into the wind behind her. The tiny creature sighed, and with a look of resignation addressed her. "You really got the devil's luck, didn't you?" Through her smile, Alexandra retorted, "Receiving that alone, may have been worth the price Puchuu."
