>you groan as you rub your tired sore eyes, and glance at the clock
>3 AM
>Twilight is lying in bed, opposite of your armchair, reading a book on quantitative alchemy
>you glance at your book cover
>"Alchemical Reagents and Where to Find Them"
>you volunteered to help Twilight since you remembered some chemistry back from school, and that's close enough
>well, surprisingly it is
>you don't feel like such a dunderhead compared to the purple mare who's currently swishing her tail to and fro in tact to her reading
>you giggle as your eyes lose focus, and bat at it
>Twilight sniffs, and turns her head to face you
"Anon, what the hay? Whoah- you look out of it."
>you've got the goofiest grin on your face as you continue playing with her mane
"Gee Anon, you're kind of... um. Wow, it's late."
>you look blearily at the clock
"Uh-huh."
>she winces and looks outside
>it's pouring, which is one of the reasons why you decided to stay and help
>because nothing beats a good book and a good friend on a rainy day
>Spike is already asleep downstairs
>she bites her lower lip, and stretches her wings as she yawns
"Well, I guess it's time to hit the sack."
>you give a little laugh
>she rolls her eyes, and flicks you with her tail in the face
"You're silly. Now, my guest bed is currently... unavailable-"
>it's true
>you and Twilight ruined it
>no, not like that
>you were doing some hands-on chemistry and a sticky white liquid covered the bed in goo
>...
>come to think of it, that doesn't sound much better
"-so you'll have to sleep with me."
>you blink, and look at her blankly
>she groans and facehoofs
"Not like that, Anon. I'm not gonna force you to walk back home in this downpour. Besides... it'll be warmer."
>you smile and nod
"Thanks Twilight. I'll keep my hands to myself."
>she giggles, and pats the side of the bed next to her, scooting over
>you stick a bookmark into the book, close it, and flop on the bed
"Aren't you gonna take that suit off?"
"Nope."

>she giggles, as she pats you on the head
"You're cute when you're exhausted."
>you mumble something to the tune of "y-you too"
>her horn glows as she floats the book away, and shuts off the light
>your eyes close
"Good night, Twilight."
"Night, Anon."
>you feel her shift next to you, as she attempts to settle more comfortably
"Uh, Anon?"
"Mm?"
>you hear her clear her throat
"Would you, uh... mind if I placed my wing over you? I, ah... haven't quite gotten used to them yet, and I kinda splay them out."
>you give a chuckle
"And there I thought we were keeping our appendages to ourselves? No, I don't mind."
>you feel a feathery weight settle over you
>it's like the softest downy blanket ever
>you can't help but smile
>you start to even out your breathing, and hear Twilight do the same
>in fact you're breathing in unison
>you feel the spinning sensation of falling asleep
"Hey Anon?"
"Mmmmphg-wha?"
>Twilight presses her wing closer to you, which causes her body to be pressed against you
>she's so soft
"Ummm. I know this is going to sound weird, but... could you scratch my mane for me? Your fingers are just so dextrous."
>you smile, and open your eyes
>the lavender unicorn is looking at you apologetically
"Heh. Your wish is my command."
>you roll over to your side and extend your arm and start stroking Twilight's mane, scratching her behind the ears
"Mmmm. Just like that?"
"Y-yes. Good night."
>you see Twilight close her eyes, and her breathing settle once more
>you keep scratching for a couple more minutes, before you let your arm relax
>you close your eyes
>about a minute passes before you hear a rustling next to you
>then you smell a hint of Twilight's conditioner, as your lips are brushed by a light kiss
"Good night Anon. I love you."

>with a jolt you wake up, and rub your eyes
>the room is colder, and... smaller
>you see your computer, your pile of laundry
>HUH?!
>adrenaline surges into you, as you pat your hands around you
>your bed is empty, save for yourself
"Wh- huh?!"
>you look around
"T... twilight?"
>you briefly glance at the clock
>2 AM
>it was...
>it was just a dream
>you landing in Equestria
>making friends with the ponies
>becoming soul mates with the Twilight
>that hug
>that... kiss
"No..."
>you glance around, and rub at your eyes
>you're not crying, something must've just gotten in them
"No... Twilight..?"
>you swallow a lump in your throat, as tears trickle down
>it was all a dream
>and you just woke up






-Another time, another place-

>Twilight, wings flared, glares at the midnight-blue alicorn standing before her in a misty field
"JUST A DREAM!? WHAT GIVES YOU THE RI-"
"SILENCE TWILIGHT SPARKLE! I AM THE GUARDIAN OF DREAMS!"
"So?! What gives the right to root around in my dreams!"
"We wanted to make sure that nothing came through with you after your return to Equestria."
>Twilight blows steam out of her nostrils.
"So what? You thought it would be a good idea to construct a dream world where I finally meet somepon- somebody who understands me, and clicks with me... and then you just crudely wake me UP FROM IT?!"
>Luna winces as Twilight approaches her.
"Peace, Twilight Sparkle. This was not our intent. We simply linked your mind with an inhabitant of their world to compare your mental profiles."
>The purple alicorn hmphs, as tears glisten in her eyes.
"So, naturally, he had to be compatible with me. I get it. Couldn't you have warned me?!"
>Luna shakes her head.
"Unfortunately not. It had to be a pure experiment. I'm sure you understand."
>Twilight approaches the Princess of the Night, with tears freely running down her cheeks.
"What I understand is that I found my soulmate. I thought I've been with him for about a year. And just as I was going to admit my feelings to him - which you SPIED on - he disappears. Forever!"
>Luna looks away, and folds her wings to her sides, which causes the mist to shimmer, and re-form into the store room of the Crystal Palace, where the portal reflects the starry sky.
"My apologies Twilight Sparkle. But surely there are stalli-"
>Twilight is now nose to nose with Luna.
"There are not. Do you think I have not tried?! Few are capable of keeping up with me, and those that are - well, they're dumb bores! Anon was smart, and nice, and kind... and he loved me too, I'm sure of it! So, maybe I picked up xenophilia from that portal, fine! I don't care."
>She sniffles, and sinks to the floor.
"I just... I just want my Anon back..."


>The midnight blue alicorn bows her head, and approaches Twilight, sitting down next to her, and putting a wing around her.
"Is this what you truly want, Twilight Sparkle?"
>The purple alicorn is crying, with puffy eyes, and ears flopped down.
"Y-yes! M-more than anything!"
>Luna nuzzles the other alicorn, as a smile plays on her lips, and she stands up.
"Well then. Let it not be said that the Princess of the Night cannot grant her new household member a boon."
>Twilight blinks, as Luna's horn begins to glow.
"The portal shall remain open for but 3 minutes or so. Tarry not as you bring him."
>Princess Luna fires a bolt of energy into the dream-reflection of the portal to Earth.
>With a KAWOOSH, it begins to ripple like the surface of a lake in a strong wind.
"Go Twilight Sparkle!"
>With a cry of joy, Twilight dives into the portal...

-Back on Earth-

>you're covering your face with your hands, as your shoulders shake
>it seemed so real
>suddenly through your closed eyes, you see a flash of bright light, like a camera flash, only much brighter
"Anon! There isn't much time!"
>you lift your hands from your face
>she's there
>your purple pony princess
>in the flesh
>she's smiling at you
"Come on! You have to hurry!"
>behind her shimmers some kind of... thing
>it hurts your eyes to look at it
>she's making a beckoning gesture with her hoof
>you blink the tears out of your eyes, and jump out of bed
"This is... the real life? It's not just fantasy?"
>she groans
"Yes, but you have to hurry!"
>you nod, as you look around your room, and your gaze falls upon your bookshelf
>you run up to it, and start chucking books through the portal
>you're turned away from her, as all of a sudden you feel a pair of purple hooves hug you
"This is why you're amazing, Anon! Let me help!"
>you see your entire bookcase lift up by magic, and flung through the portal
"Now let's go! Equestria awaits!"
>you nod, and return the hug as you run towards the shimmering curtain of energy

>a white light fills your vision, before you feel yourself hit something hard
"Ow."
>you then feel something softer thud into you, which immediately presses closer to you
"ANON! YOU MADE IT!"
>you try to shake the spots of color from your vision, as you slowly see Twilight Sparkle's blurry form in front of your eyes
>as your vision clears, you see that she's grinning ear to ear, tears glistening in her eyes
>you feel like you've got something in your eyes too
"You... you're real?!"
>she nods, and nuzzles against you
"Yes! And now we'll never be apart!"
>you hear a clearing of a throat above you
"Ah, greetings, Anonymous of Earth."
>you quickly get back to your feet, as Twilight runs up to the Princess, and hugs her with her wings
"Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou-"
>Luna gives Twilight a nuzzle, as she steps out of her hug.
"I wish to formally welcome your corporeal self to Equestria. You will be granted sanctuary, and status of a pluripotent ambassador from Humanity - that is what you call yourself, correct?"
>you nod dumbly
>she smiles, and extends her hoof
>flashes of your dream life surge in your brain, as you go down on one knee, take her hoof and kiss it
"Th-thank you Princess. You don't know what this means to me..."
>she chuckles and looks between the two of you
>both you and Twilight are smiling with tears in your eyes
"Hmph. Princess Mi Amora Cadenza may be the alicorn of love... but I think I did a good job, no?"
>with a flap of her wings, the image of the portal room fades, and you all are now enveloped in a silvery mist
"This spell shall deposit both of you at Twilight's library. Farewell, both of you!"
>with that, Luna fades in a muted flash, as the mist starts to recede, and you're in Twilight's bedroom
>you both look around
"It's like... it's like we never left."
>Twilight walks over to you, and nuzzles against you
"A-anon? Would you like to stay the night?"
>you kneel down, and hug Twilight
"More than anything."

>you both look at the highly conspicuous bookcase
>you catch each other looking, and burst out laughing
"Tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow."
>you both climb on the bed, taking the positions that you occupied before... you woke up
>Twilight hugs you tightly with her wings, while you start scratching her behind the ears
"Mmm... how could I ever mistake a dream for the real thing? Your fingers are amazing."
>you smile, and lean over to kiss her
>she closes her eyes, and leans into your kiss
>after what feels like an eternity, you both break away
>Twilight smiles at you
"Anon. It felt like a year for me, and I just want to say... I love you. I fell in love with you... and I hope you feel the same way... since you never... never actually said anything."
>you lean over, and kiss her again
"Does that answer your question?
>she pouts, as you smile, and start stroking her mane
"I love you, Twilight. It's also been a year for me."
>her horn glows, as the lights go out
"This is everything-"
"-I ever wanted."
