  1. Immolation. One of the leading figures in the old New York death metal scene. Their classic album Close to a World Below is widely considered to be one of the best death metal albums ever recorded. To be blunt, every track on the album goes insanely hard. While Immolation’s entire discography is amazing, this album holds a special place in my heart for being the album that got me into death metal. The musicianship is nothing way out of the ordinary for old school death metal, but there’s enough different to make it stand out. Combine it with vocalist/bassist Ross Dolan’s guttural, yet understandable vocals and unforgiving lyrics, and you have a near perfect album. A true standout, among standouts.
