  1. <Wellwick|GM> Crescent Despicable stood up on the table in front of the room full of Loki's Rats, drawing every eye in the room. Tonight was the night.
  2. <Wellwick|GM> "People have forgotten what the Rats represent in this city," he said, his voice loud but rough, his eyes casting around the room from beneath his red mask. "And it's high time that we bring that back to their attention."
  3. <Wellwick|GM> Some of the Rats around grumbled a little, others jeered. It had been a week since another of the gangs had launched an attack at one of their major warehouses, and it had been a heavy blow. Grindbolt was awaiting trial, and communications across the city were sporadic at best, nearly every call cut off, every message chain coming to halt or stuttering along hours apart.
  4. <Wellwick|GM> A whole combination of things had ruined the stature the Rats had once had in the city, but they still had the biggest cape presence of the villains. Obsidian glanced to his right, spotting Flake watching Crescent intently, her shaker power clearly not in effect.
  5. <Wellwick|GM> Ghost Hand stood across the room with a few of his favourite Rats, but his attention was also drawn to their leader.
  6. <Wellwick|GM> ||
  7. <Wellwick|GM> ((Introduce yourself, how Obsidian is feeling in the moment))
  8. <Hub|Obsidian> ...
  9. <Hub|Obsidian> The feeling of scale and importance of this meeting was something that Mark was longing for quite a time. He did great job in impressing a few Crescent's men with his knack for stealing stuff but this was situation where Obsidian could finally shine. Police cocksuckers and hero nerds in pyjamas got Grindbolt and Mark already have multiple ideas how to get that bro out. His train of thought was stopped few time when boss raised his voice- his
  10. <Hub|Obsidian> presence was hard to ignore and the only thing Mark could do at this moment was to listen to Crescent plan and nervously wait to be finally called out.
  11. <Wellwick|GM> ((You done with your turn?))

  15. <Wellwick|GM> ((no worries))
  16. <Wellwick|GM> "Arm yourselves," Crescent said, summoning arcs of red along the ceiling for emphasis, the lighting of the room shifting as he did so. "Get into groups, and we'll have Grindbolt out by the end of the night. A week and people will fear us again. A month and we'll own this city."
  17. <Wellwick|GM> People were standing, masks with whiskers painted onto the cheeks sliding into place already. Obsidian glanced around, only knowing a few of the lower mooks and grunts in the Rats ranks.
  18. <Wellwick|GM> If he wanted, he could probably convince one of the capes to team up with him, and he would be able to work with them and his minion to tag team against the enemy capes.||
  19. <Wellwick|GM> ((Feel free to pick a cape and attempt to convince them to partner up with you for the assault, or go it solo for rep reasons, or grab a few of the unpowered around))
  20. <Hub|Obsidian> ((Do I know powers of any of them?))
  21. <Wellwick|GM> ((Yep, Crescent Despicable can bring forth arcs of energy out of surfaces - think buzzsaws that can cut through people. They're solid enough on the flat-side that he can walk on them, but it's not really safe for anyone else to use. Ghost Hand can turn things invisible, Flake has a shaker power with lots of possible effects that get created in sectors))
  22. <Wellwick|GM> ((Fragile invisibility for Ghost Hand, if something gets hit, the invisibility disappears))
  23. <Wellwick|GM> ((Might not work great with your melee minion))

  28. <Hub|Obsidian> Ghost Hand would be perfect for the job I only he had some offensive power. Once my minion and I were discovered it could be impossible for both of us to get out.I needed a distraction to free Grindbolt. I couldn't waltz in to boss and tell him to be my distraction. Flake on the other hand... That idea was much more promising.
  29. <Hub|Obsidian> ((just noticed I've changed third person narrating to first one :p))
  30. <Wellwick|GM> ((Doesn't matter really))
  31. <Hub|Obsidian> ((a little faux pas on my part))
  32. <Hub|Obsidian> I walk over to Fluke to band with her for this action
  33. <Hub|Obsidian> *Flake
  34. <Hub|Obsidian> "Hi Flake, I gotta idea for this break out. Wanna to help me out?"
  35. <Hub|Obsidian> ((Do I need to || after a dialog line?))
  36. <Wellwick|GM> ((Yes please))
  37. <Hub|Obsidian> ||
  38. <Hub|Obsidian> ((you're welcome))
  39. <Wellwick|GM> She glanced over him, still a little un-endeared to their newest member, even though she hadn't been around all that long.
  40. <Wellwick|GM> ((Roll me a social: `$roll 1d6 Social`))
  41. <Hub|Obsidian> $roll 1d6 social
  42. <[ATM]> Hub|Obsidian "social" [1] = 1
  43. <Hub|Obsidian> ((OOF))
  44. <Wellwick|GM> Obsidian got the sense that she was a bit offput by him, but he wasn't really sure why.
  45. <Wellwick|GM> "What are you thinking?" she asked, a little hesitancy in her voice. A couple of gang members were prepping weapons, melee or otherwise, at a table nearby and gave the two of them a look, listening in on Obsidian's idea.||

  49. <Hub|Obsidian> "I'm just thinkin about how can we use your flashy power to get inside and OUT of jail but I'd need you to tell me more about it to be sure we can use it to distract heroes without putting you in danger" ||
  50. <Wellwick|GM> She gave him a hard look for a moment before she said, "you're the one more likely to get hurt with my power. It can have collateral damage, and I don't control which section gives a boost, which one sets someone on fire."
  51. <Wellwick|GM> Sparing a glance towards the Rats, she pulled him away so they would be less overheard. She lowered her voice a little, "the area I can effect, it get's bigger the longer I stay in a place, gives me more to work with. We have enough time in a place, we'll have the battlefield control to move around freely and hold up the heroes."||
  52. <Hub|Obsidian> ((What did I know about her power prior to this conversation actually?))
  53. <Wellwick|GM> ((You know that her skin flakes out and kind of floats in the air, and then she can trigger these flakes that end having different colours and subsequent effects. It get's sectioned out like sections of a circle or clock starting with her as the center, each section equal in size.))
  54. <Wellwick|GM> ((Roll me a Know, you've got -1 attached to the roll, but you have Street Smarts which I think applies. Do `$roll 2h6-1 Street Smarts`. The h instead of the d in the roll is important, means you pick the higher of the two dice))
  55. <Hub|Obsidian> ((cool))
  56. <Hub|Obsidian> $roll 2h6-1 Street Smarts
  57. <[ATM]> Hub|Obsidian "Street Smarts" (1) [2] -1 = 1
  58. <Wellwick|GM> ((Phenomenal rolls today :P))
  59. <Hub|Obsidian> ((xD))
  60. <Wellwick|GM> Obsidian hadn't seen her power in action, but he knew that she had different effects. A time one, he thought, which she could slow down or speed up a section, but it was only one of many.||
  61. <Hub|Obsidian> "Interesting. And what range you have when you're on the move?"||
  62. <Wellwick|GM> Even Obsidian could read the shift in her body language, a question that frustrated her. "Not much at all," she said. "Much more than walking pace and I won't have my power keeping up with me"||
  63. <Hub|Obsidian> Only a blind guy wouldn't notice that she was irritated by this aspect of her power. Mark decided to not show his disappointment and presented a work-around solution for that- "That changes things a bit but it still could be useful. How about that: We'll both storm jail and after we're in you will act as a watchdog and block entrances or hallways from cops and heroes so I and my minion free our fella. After that me and Grindbolt will fight
  64. <Hub|Obsidian> those fuckers and we all get out. You like it?"||
  65. <Wellwick|GM> She paused, thinking, then nodded a moment later. "Yeah, I think we can make it work. The harder we hit them, the faster we can get setup. I doubt it will be long before the heroes arrive."
  66. <Wellwick|GM> Rats were leaving the building now, heading out to the front where they could load up in to vans and trucks. It was nearly a whole fleet, multiple vehicles full of Rats.
  67. <Wellwick|GM> They were going all out tonight.
  68. <Wellwick|GM> Flake glanced at the Rats that remained nearby to them. "We grabbing a driver for ourselves?"||
  69. <Hub|Obsidian> Mark looked at her in disbelieve she probably couldn't see through his costume "You'd rather walk there?" ||
  70. <Wellwick|GM> "I'd rather not drive myself," she responded, parroting back Obsidian's tone of voice.||
  71. <Hub|Obsidian> "Hah, I get it now and agree- cops like to shoot at drivers first, let's get one for us"||
  72. * Thaliaway is now known as Thalia
  73. <Wellwick|GM> "Right," she said, a little unsure of how to respond. "Come on." She led, grabbing one of the Rats on the way out. Flake loaded up into the sedan taking a seat in the back of the car, another Rat glancing at Obsidian before taking the front passenger seat.
  74. <Wellwick|GM> Cars were already pulling away, Crescent and Ghost Hand having taken separate cars. The gang was on the move now.
  75. <Wellwick|GM> The drive started off quiet, and the driver turned on the radio in the hopes of drowning out that silence before a fight. There was some sound, some music, but mostly it was static, the virus one of the other gangs had released in the city having ruined the infrastructure enough that even getting radio was tough.||
  76. * Spellspin (uid232501@highgate.irccloud.com) has joined
  77. <Hub|Obsidian> Broken sounds of radio incredibly annoyed Mark as they were horrible to listen and reminded him of who is at least partially responsible for that virus. "Turn that shit off. We'll bleed out from our ears before we get to the spot" ||
  78. <Wellwick|GM> The driver either or agreed or decided that it was best not to mess with Obsidian because they switched the radio off. The rest of the journey happened in silence, their car following another the whole way across town. The streets were empty, an expectation with the late hour. With any luck, less heroes would be on duty in the evening, and the lack of proper comms would make it harder to round up backup when the Rats inevitably had to go loud.
  79. <Wellwick|GM> A half hour later, the car was parked, and a few Rats had been around making sure everyone was in position. Grindbolt was being held in the PRT headquarters, safer for both regular prisoners and their own regulations and rules. He was three strikes down on the three strike rule, so everyone knew what the judgement would be if he made it to trial.

  82. <Wellwick|GM> The holding cells were in the basement, which would mean they would have to break in, take control of whatever security means there were and disable them. Probably meant going up, or at least clearing the ground and below ground floors.
  83. <Wellwick|GM> Because of the lack of comms, Crescent had passed around the word. Everyone was to move in at the same time, and watches were set. Two minutes until the assault.
  84. <Wellwick|GM> Flake and Obsidian were hitting from a side exit, Crescent deciding that he would draw their attention from the front.||
  85. <Wellwick|GM> ((Last chance to make any plans or strategems))
  86. <Hub|Obsidian> ((sure))
  87. <Hub|Obsidian> ((btw did Crescent reveal to us his master plan we all need to follow?))
  88. <Wellwick|GM> ((There isn't all that much of a master plan to it. Hitting them hard and showing that they can handle a front on attack is the point of this. Ghost Hand might be providing some stealthy support, sending a few soldiers in invisible))
  89. <Hub|Obsidian> Mark looked at Flake "We'll get in, find the way to him and you'll block it so I can get back Grindbolt. Then we both take you and run asap. Maybe hide so heroes or cops don't shoot you. You ready?"
  90. <Hub|Obsidian> ||
  91. <Wellwick|GM> "I'm ready," she said, and with that they were moving. She held off on activating her power as the got close to the building, a couple of PRT soldiers guarding at the window. There were floodlights on the approach, so it would be tough to get close without being spotted.
  92. <Wellwick|GM> ((You can roll stealth, or just charge in))||
  93. <Hub|Obsidian> Mark activated mist in his costume and approached soldiers
  94. <Hub|Obsidian> (( 1d6 roll?))
  95. <Wellwick|GM> ((Yep, dex roll with a bonus from your covert armour $roll 1d6+1 Stealth))
  96. <Hub|Obsidian> $roll 1d6+1 Stealth
  97. <[ATM]> Hub|Obsidian "Stealth" [5] +1 = 6
  98. <Hub|Obsidian> ((FINALLY))
  99. <Hub|Obsidian> ((THANK YOU GODS OF RNG))
  100. <Hub|Obsidian> (( Do I need to || now?))
  101. <Wellwick|GM> Fortunately, Obsidian was more than capable at sneaking around. He was a thief at heart, after all.
  102. <Wellwick|GM> He went wide of the floodlight's moving along the body of a PRT truck for cover. Then he ducked low, crawling beneath the truck, Flake following him in through the undignified but silent approach.
  103. <Wellwick|GM> The others would be approaching from the front of the building now. The guards might be distracted or pulled away...
  104. <Wellwick|GM> Obsidian pressed himself up against the wall just beneath the window. He could hear the two guards talking, but the words were muffled, incomprehensible. A moment later, noises erupted in the distance, and he could hear the guards reacting.
  105. <Wellwick|GM> Beside him, the door required a keycard to be beeped through the door. Not the sort he could pick. Frustrating.
  106. <Wellwick|GM> Were the guards moving to the front of the building to investigate? He struggled to hear-
  107. <Wellwick|GM> ((Roll me a wits))
