  8. Monica, again after listening to the women the other night and her grandiose memory's of the pools she did touch on two facts (briefly) that outweigh all others.
  9.
  10. 1. If the pools do not open the pre-teens -teens will find an alternate place to cool off on hot days. The river, Frear park reservoir or the poestenkill. Any and all three will produce casualties which have been proven in the past.
  11.
  12. 2. Without somewhere to swim many of the youth will be bored and without any supervision. That's not our fault but the result is high crime with these kids getting in trouble. This will drive up our already astronomical public safety budget. You're either going to pay in one budget line or pay for it in another. Thanks

  36. > I firmly believe that we need to look at recreational programming as a whole, with the pools being one part of that overall program. The partners aren’t defined, but we know that we have good relationships with the ones we have. The couple that I’ve already spoken with are interested in seeing what the future looks like. If we are able to put together a plan and some numbers, we can look into how we fund. I think we can all agree that the Youth Programming in Troy isn’t what it used to be many years ago and how important it is to our neighborhoods and our future. If we want to change our current situation, we need to look at what possibilities might be before us.

First off Monica's quotes in the paper were very good concerning balance between childhood recreation and the burden of the taxpayer. I would like to know who are "partners" are though. If its the Boys & Girls clubs or CYO they're already screaming about losing " their money" in the budget. I'd also like to applaud Mr. Doherty for he's at least trying.

  56. > Years ago the Knickerbocker pool was in grave danger of not opening due to similar problems we have today. A young engineer was assigned from Troy's water department to work on the infrastructure under the pool, wallah it was operable by the time summer came upon us. Have the water department assign a crew or use the engineering staff in OUR own city to work on the problems. We will still need to pay for parts but it will be minimal without paying for the labor.
