  3. [2014-10-29 13:10:31] <Jack_Rascal> 3Noble_Heart frowns. "We do not believe that We have one of those cloaks. Or clasps."
  4. [2014-10-29 13:10:43] <Jack_Rascal> 3Bookwright notes, "I think it's actually the clasp part that matters."
  5. [2014-10-29 13:10:50] <Jack_Rascal> 3Jugeote watches, then says to Shatara in 'griffin-fancy', "Not all of your buddies are prepared for this place?"
  6. [2014-10-29 13:11:01] <Jack_Rascal> 3CopyCat hmms, then reaches into her pack and pulls out the spare cloak she had brought. They had wanted one for each of them, after all. "Here, try this." She drapes the cloak over Noble_Heart's back and fastens the clasp around her neck.

  8. [2014-10-29 13:11:09] <Jack_Rascal> 3Suddenly, Noble_Heart can see.
  9. [2014-10-29 13:11:19] <Jack_Rascal> 3Golden_Dream , quite reasonably, opted out of lighting up her pipbuck so that she could read aloud.
  10. [2014-10-29 13:11:26] <Jack_Rascal> 3Shatara mentaly notes that the stripeyparty was specifically prepared for this place, sends that note to CopyCat. He notes Copycat distributing the cloak, and responds. "We prepare."
  11. [2014-10-29 13:11:33] <Jack_Rascal> 3Noble_Heart blinks a few moments in surprise, allowing the light from her horn to become slightly less blinding. "Interesting."
  12. [2014-10-29 13:11:39] <Jack_Rascal> 3Bookwright "But it makes sense. It ensures that enemies are crippled and yet does not impair followers of the Quetzalcoatl Empress."

  17. [2014-10-29 13:19:24] * Bookwright is intensely curious about what the zebras are saying to Shatara, but he doesn't speak... whatever that language is. So he just cocks his head quizzically at Shatara.
  18. [2014-10-29 13:19:57] * CopyCat bites her lip nervously, 'understanding' the spoken griffin-french only through her link with Shatara. "A-a-abyss? D-did she just say Abyss?"
  19. [2014-10-29 13:20:27] * Bookwright "Yes, tell me about this 'abyss', please."
  20. [2014-10-29 13:26:29] * Golden_Dream remains being sneakypone. If she was honest with herself, she had an idea that this was probably going to turn into an ambush. She wished that she had some mines or something that wasn't the warhead off of an anti-air rocket, but she needed that one too in case that they were slavers and pretty princess ponies sold for millions.
  21. [2014-10-29 13:28:28] <Jack_Rascal> 3Jugeote listens to the ponies speaking in pony. Looks to Shatara for translation.
  22. [2014-10-29 13:33:41] * Shatara fidgets a bit. "They, er...want know more of 'Abyss'..."
  23. [2014-10-29 13:36:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote turns to the zebra pirate wearing the odd arcanotech. Speaking in oddly-accented griffin for Shatara's benefit, she says, "This is more your realm than mine, Kifaa. Would you care to explain?"
  24. [2014-10-29 13:40:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Kifaa nods. "In the...." She pauses, fiddles with that arcanotech, then proceeds, "...bowels of the Temple is a great..." Again, she stops and speaks to Jugeote in zebra. Jugeote replies, supplying the griffin word for 'chasm'. "...a great chasm."
  25. [2014-10-29 13:43:39] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Kifaa continue in this manner, repeatedly needing to ask for words from the more language savvy Jugeote, as she explains. "The Roamans called it the .... Pit of Orcus. The Villages called it Kutengwa Abyss."
  26. [2014-10-29 13:45:15] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Kifaa tells Shatara, "By either name, it is a great hole, leading to the realm where the greatest... monsters are imprisoned."
  27. [2014-10-29 13:47:38] * Shatara pales. "Soo...zebra Tartarus then..."
  28. [2014-10-29 13:48:56] * CopyCat takes a step back and attempts to hide behind Noble_Heart. "Eeep!"
  29. [2014-10-29 13:49:25] * Bookwright thinks. "So... the Empress is the guardian of this Abyss, then? She doesn't seem to be trapped in it..."
  30. [2014-10-29 13:50:16] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote nods. Kifaa looks for an explanation. When she gets it, she shakes her head. "Not 'zebra Tartarus'. Just one place holding many monsters. With many pits leading to it. Different pits. Different names. Same place."
  31. [2014-10-29 13:53:03] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Kifaa looks to Shatara. "Are there not pits to this place in the pony lands and the griffin peaks?"
  32. [2014-10-29 14:00:52] * Shatara does his best to describe the pony-legends of Tartarus in his barely-remembered ancestral tongue to the stripeypones.
  33. [2014-10-29 14:05:54] * CopyCat glances at Noble_Heart and Bookwright. "T-they are saying that pony and z-zebra Tartarus are the same. Different names... different p-pits. S-same place." CopyCat shivers. She was not enjoying the swirling thoughts of monsters that the word 'Tartarus' had brought up.
  34. [2014-10-29 14:06:39] * Bookwright "Okay, so that makes a bit of sense."
  35. [2014-10-29 14:07:04] * Noble_Heart frowns and furrows her brow. "We are not certain. Perhaps they are right?"
  36. [2014-10-29 14:13:13] * Golden_Dream strains to hear that. Tartarus. WAIT, HOLD UP. THEY WERE HEADED TO TARTARUS?! Why can't they ever go somewhere nice? Do zebras have a resort town that they could go to? Let's do that next time.
  37. [2014-10-29 14:13:51] * Bookwright "Right or wrong, we have to go in there. It's best to know what we're heading up against."
  38. [2014-10-29 14:14:36] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote listens to Shatara's stories, and passes them on to Kifaa in the zebra tongue. After discussion between the pirates (in which the third also speaks briefly), Jugeote turns back to Shatara.
  39. [2014-10-29 14:15:47] <Mare-Do-Well> 3"According to legends, the Quetzalcoatl Empress was cast down into Kutengwa Abyss long ago. She was imprisoned there, and this temple was built over the Abyss to help seal Her within. After all, there are many such pits in the world, and the fabled Hound-of-Many-Heads cannot guard all of them."
  40. [2014-10-29 14:23:24] * Golden_Dream restrained a grumble. You know, when folks said that she should go to Tartarus, she didn't actually think she was going to oblige them.
  41. [2014-10-29 14:29:55] * CopyCat tries to relate what Shatara was hearing to her friends as best she could, keeping the griffin free to reply if he wanted.
  42. [2014-10-29 14:33:12] <Golden_Dream> [Copycat, do me a favor. Do you remember the rhyme? Only the repentant may find the key?]
  43. [2014-10-29 14:36:22] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote cocks her head and smirks. "Is that not why you are here too?" she asks Shatara. "Each of our peoples had their ways of keeping the monsters from escaping. We built temples. The ponies tamed a monster and set it to guard the entrance. The griffins... the griffins crafted a great artifact that could open and close portals to other realms."
  44. [2014-10-29 14:36:56] * CopyCat blinks at the zebra and tries to look non-chalant as she mentally replies to Golden_Dream... which means she starts whistling and leans up against a wall. ["Only the remorseful one shall find the key"]
  45. [2014-10-29 14:38:05] * Golden_Dream nods. [Right. Ask them if he's talking about the Amulet.]
  46. [2014-10-29 14:39:35] * Golden_Dream continues, [And /then/ tell him if he knows anythin' about Wigglybutt McFlankface.]
  47. [2014-10-29 14:40:18] * Golden_Dream nearly whaps her forehead. [I mean, ask. Have t' be specific.]
  48. [2014-10-29 14:43:53] * CopyCat nods, then turns to Shatara. "Can you ask if they are looking for the Amulet?" She scrunchy-faces. "And then if they know anything about the Faceless Flank-noodler."
  49. [2014-10-29 14:50:46] * Shatara nods a bit, asking the piratestripes about the amulet and the faceless zebragoast.
  50. [2014-10-29 14:56:24] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirates speak to each other, then Jugeote turns to Shatara, "I fear we know of neither of these things. But I am /very/ interested. What is this amulet you speak of?"
  51. [2014-10-29 14:59:31] * Shatara shrugs. "Just some trinket that some old documents mentioned..."
  52. [2014-10-29 15:00:06] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote prods, "A /valuable/ trinket, perhaps?"
  53. [2014-10-29 15:00:27] * Noble_Heart frowns as she looks around at the walls, not paying particularly close attention to the conversation in the language she was only dimly familiar with. "This place is strange. Why would the zebras build a place such as this, and defend it so, if they feared and hated those who followed the spirit? It could not have been some small cult which made such a temple."
  54. [2014-10-29 15:03:54] * Shatara fidgets and chuckles nervously. "Old trinkets are sometimes?"
  55. [2014-10-29 15:04:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The pirates look at each other knowingly.
  56. [2014-10-29 15:05:55] * CopyCat bites her lip. It was at times like these that she wished she didn't just do what ponies told her without a second thought.
  57. [2014-10-29 15:19:09] <Shatara> "So uh...what brings you here...?"
  58. [2014-10-29 15:22:15] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote doesn't miss a beat, "Oh, we're just looking around. Never know when you might find something valuable, right?"
  59. [2014-10-29 15:24:46] <Shatara> "So you're braving magical darkness and the very pits of hell, on the off chance there *might* be something valuable...?"
  60. [2014-10-29 15:33:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote chuckles. "Isn't that what you are doing? For just some trinket that is only valuable maybe?"
  61. [2014-10-29 15:38:23] * Shatara fidgets and looks at the others.
  62. [2014-10-29 15:41:11] * CopyCat blinks. A robot had once asked her if she was a princess... so she knew what to say when asked something like this! "Tell them I am a princess doing princess-y things."
  63. [2014-10-29 15:44:03] * CopyCat didn't seem too insistant. It was a fairly silly idea, after all.
  64. [2014-10-29 15:46:11] * Noble_Heart looks at the other wall. "Doesn't it seem odd that pirates would not just have cloaks to see in this magical darkness, but also know how and when to use them? They must come to places like this regularly. We wonder if there are other places cursed by The Quetzlcoatl Empress such as this."
  65. [2014-10-29 15:52:53] * Golden_Dream is staying quiet and sneaky.
  66. [2014-10-29 15:53:25] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Noble_Heart finds herself staring at a carved image of what could be Cerberus. The highly stylized figure has pits for eyes, suggesting the tiny stones that were once embedded there have since been removed.
  67. [2014-10-29 15:54:54] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side, then the other. "Someone has been pilfering the stones from these ruins. Though that is hardly a surprise." She looks the creature over. "It would seem that this most likely is a place where Tartarus might be found. How strange. Was the Empress once trapped within? Or is it she who does the trapping?"
  68. [2014-10-29 15:54:57] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The entire wall holds imagery of fantastic and fearsome monsters of legend. Mostly zebra legend, and thus quite unfamiliar. Although the giant image of a bear filled with stars is rather recognizable.
  69. [2014-10-29 15:58:38] * Noble_Heart raises a hoof towards that image. "The Ursas are feared here as well. How interesting." She looks to Bookwright. "Were you not interested in their stories and legendes?"
  70. [2014-10-29 16:00:09] * Bookwright leaves off trying to understand Shatara's conversation and joins Noble_Heart in admiring the wall. "This is really cool. I wish I could have met the sculptors... these are extremely intricate carvings."
  71. [2014-10-29 16:04:50] * Noble_Heart nods her head and frowns. "We wonder why the followers of the Quetzelcoatl Empress would wish to decorate their building so. Are they her enemies? Her allies? Something to be feared that she protects them from, or something that would be their allies if only they were freed?"
  72. [2014-10-29 16:05:08] * Shatara gets left hanging.
  73. [2014-10-29 16:06:31] * CopyCat smiles at Shatara sweetly. "You could always tell them I'm a princess..." :3
  74. [2014-10-29 16:06:46] * Bookwright points at the eyes. "Perhaps this wall is a warning, and a lock? These sockets seem ready to accept something. And the warning is clear enough."
  75. [2014-10-29 16:11:50] * Bookwright steps back and takes it all in. "Definitely a warning. 'Enter Not, Behold That Which This Temple Encompasses' or something like that."
