how to make ubuntu unity and everything faster

first in terminal sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

then open compiz

then go to the opengl plugin first
grab a screenshot of the settings in there so you don't forget
after that uncheck the sync to vblank and change the texture filter to fast

that might fix everything
if not you can try a couple other tweaks

inside composite uncheck "detect refresh rate"
and inside unity change 'dash blur' to 'no blur'
