  1. A Call To Arms
  2.
  3. To all bilingual tech/IT specialists & activists in Japan:
  4.
  5. We're all seen the way things here & abroad are going. Whether its ACTA, TPP, Police threats against Tor, or Prism and the NSA abroad, online privacy has never been more threatened.
  6.
  7. While the likes of CryptoParty, Pirate Party, EFF, and others offer help around the world, Japan is stuck with little in the way of information or support. If the police hammer really does come down, a lot of people here have little or no means to fight back.
  8.
  9. The biggest problem is that most of the (somewhat) user friendly crypto tools (Tor Browser Bundle, TrueCrypt, Pidgin/OTR) don't have Japanese language UIs.
  10.
  11. We propose fixing that. With the kind assistance and support of Baneki Privacy Labs (@Baneki), we propose translating the UI for Tor, Pidgin, and TrueCrypt into Japanese. This will increase access to them, enabling Japanese users to protect their privacy & making it harder for the authorities to clamp down on their use.
  12.
  13. In order to accomplish this, we'll need 3 things: a translation team, a technical team (to actually reskin the UI), and an online platform to work and share from.
  14.
  15. This project is still in the earliest of stages, & will not be able to proceed without volunteers. So we're calling on you. If you have the skills and the will to help, join us. If you know anybody who might be able to help, share this message with them.
