Twilight of the Abyss, Session 12.1

<DM> *LAST TIME ON ZURPG!
<DM> *You were chatting it out with Midna (well, not you Hal, you were sneaking into the Mirror Room), when suddenly, the palace started shaking. Shadow Beasts had invaded the Twilight Palace, with Zant standing outside. Up above, a great Argarok (aka Twilight Dragon thingy) repeatedly rammed itself into the palace's barrier, trying to take it down.
<DM> *Darte, you were imbued by the spirit of light, Faron, and together with your newfound teleportation powers, you and Hal flashed into the sky. It was rough at first, trying to stay on the darn beast without it killing you, but after finding its weak spot at the base of the wings, Darte you used your new Slipstream ability and literally shredded one of its wings into mincemeat.
<Darte> "Magic cost notwithstanding."
<DM> *The great beast fell from the sky before tumbling into the ground, just in front of the Twilight Palace's Gravity Bridge entrance. There, you saw a group of Twili, along with Midna, trying to fend off a group of Shadow Kargaroks on the other side. However, before you could go assist, Zant appeared, blocking your path.

<DM> *Seeing the downed Argarok, Zant's crazed expression multiplies (however the heck that works), and he draws his Warlock Blade, the blade itself already gleaming and shimmering with power.
<DM> [Zant]: That... that was my PET! I had taken so, oh so long, trying to tame that beast, learning its language, its screeches, its lovely screams..... and you just KILLED IT!
<DM> [Zant]: Well then... how about I learn YOUR screams, kyaaaaahahahahah!
<DM> *Zant uses Unleash!
<DM> *Zant calls forth the sage power of the Warlock Blade, unleashing a torrent of wind that hits all enemies, dealing half damage. Roll Power! | Target(s) hit lose half of their highest stat. Lasts until the end of the target's next turn.

<DM> *Zant uses his Support Action to cast Dark Portal!
<DM> *Zant forms a portal of darkness beneath himself and falls through it. On his next turn, he'll reappear elsewhere. This can be used to Bypass Cover for any attack.
* Darte nods and books it past Zant, seeming a bit slow on his feet.  Maybe from that fall...?

<DM> *Hal, you make it to the Gravity Bridge, though your foot feels a tad heavy as you step it out over the bridge. Looking at the Shadow Kargaroks on the other side, they're actually on the other side.
<Hal> Darn it. It better not be that gravity effect.
<DM> *You see one Shadow Kargarok get blasted back by a Sol Blast over the Gravity Bridge. It tries to flap its wings, but it's just not strong enough. It falls and falls, plunging into the depths and into the Twilight Realm's singularity far below.
<DM> *Darte, you doing anything?
<Hal> (Would the gravity bridge take me across in this state?)
<DM> (Even with flight, no.)
<DM> (You'd have to figure out how to turn it on.
* Hal looks around for a control panel near the bridge.
* Darte is near Hal, between him and Zant.  He turns with a Sacred Arrow nocked and ready to fire if Zant tries anything.
<DM> *You see two on your side. Next to one of them is the corpse of a dead Twili in its imp form.
<DM> (that yer turn?)
* Hal goes to the control panel where the dead Twili is and examines it, looking for the controls of how to turn the bridge on.
<DM> *You prep your sacred arrow, waiting for Zant, and not having a clue where the heck he'll appear.
<DM> *There seems to be a hand panel control. Seems simple enough. ... in theory.
* Darte holds at the ready, preparing a Bio-Electric Field around Hal.
<DM> *You hear a faint voice from a nearby Communication Stone, though you can't make out what it's saying.
* Hal places his hand palm on the panel

<DM> *Hal, you listen in, and you feel your head turn towards the other side, where you see a Twili Guard at the communication stone, with Midna trying to guard him.
<DM> [Twili]: The Gravity Bridge can only be activated with 4 Twili! 2 on this side, and 2 on the other.
<Hal> "So it has to be Twili and not any four people?"
<DM> [Twili]: Did the hand terminal give you a Dinging sound?
<Hal> "Yes"
<DM> [Twili]: Good, that means you can use it- augh!
<DM> *There's an explosion from the other side, and smoke blocks your view. The voice from the Communication Stone cuts out.
* Darte 's knocked silly by the blows, seeming a bit limp.  "Hang on, I can..." He seems to think for a bit, looking across the chasm.  "Fine, Zant.  Wanna race?"
<DM> *Zant laughs maniacally.
* Hal looks away to Darte. "Quick Darte, press your hand on the panel"
<DM> [Zant]: Kyahahahahaha! You want to actually move across the Gravity Bridge? Are you insane?
* Darte puts his hand on the panel briefly.
* Hal does it in sync with Darte
<DM> *Ding! Ding! ...... unfortunately, it seems you're not quite sync'd up with the other side. Nothing happens.
<Hal> Darn it!
<DM> *Zant suddenly screeches, but.... it's not his voice. It's a Shadow Beast's screech. Looking at him, you see a necklace vibrate momentarily.
<DM> [Zant]: *muttering to himself* Come on, come on, just one more beast to add to the party. Maybe, by then, they'll have the Gravity Bridge up, yes yes!
<DM> *His smile widens.
* Darte nods to Hal.  "Stay put, stay away from Zant.  I'll get help." He looks to the far side of the chasm to see if he can spot open ground.
<DM> *The smoke clears a bit, and you see a Shadow Kargarok drag one of the Twili out, trying to force it over the Gravity Bridge. Amongst all the chaos, you see some open space on the sides.
* Darte looks to Zant, shrugs, and blips across the bridge with a Golden Flash.

<DM> *In a flash, you ignore the Gravity Bridge's effects, and suddenly, you're on the other side! Now that you're here, you can tell exactly how many forces are here.
<DM> *3 Twili Guards, Midna, and 5 Shadow Kargaroks. Though, one of those Kargaroks are about to take a Twili off the bridge...
<DM> [Twili1]: No! Get it off me! I can't remove its claws- augh!
* Hal casts an illusion of sound behind Zant; a loud deafening screeching.
<DM> *Its claws tear further into the Twili. The other two Twili fire Sol Barrages.
<DM> [Zant]: Ah, IT'S HERE!
<DM> *He turns around and falls for it. Hard.
<DM> [Zant]: What the.... where are.... wha-?!
* Hal casts an Illusion of Invisibility before Zant can turn back around
<Hal> *on himself
<DM> *He looks around and around, unable to find it. Then looks back towards you..... annnnnd can't find you.
<DM> [Zant]: ..... oooooh. Tricks and tricks....... YOU HAVE TRICKS, I SEE!

<Darte> "... The Golden Hero-- No, can't take that seriously if I tried.  Just Darte."
* DM high-fives Darte.
<DM> [Twili1]: Alright Darte! You've turned the odds in our favor here. Lets take these big flying beasts down a notch!
* Darte looks about.  "I've got a friend stuck on the other side of the bridge with Zant.  Any chance we can get the bridge up first?"
* Hal casts an Illusion of Creation; of himself walking into Zant's sight and away from the bridge so Darte can blip back in.
<DM> *Midna pipes up.
<DM> [Midna]: I can hold them all down at once, but I can only do it once. Use that chance!
* Darte nods.  "Watch for Zant.  He'll be following us over, I bet."
<DM> [Twili2]: These darned beasts are so darn tanky and bulky! We can hit 'em several good shots and they'll be flying 'round!
<DM> [Midna]: Hah! Get him to follow. He can't use his Shadow Portal over a ground of nothing!
<DM> *Zant sees the image of Hal.
<DM> [Zant]: Ooh, I see you, I SEE YOU!
<DM> *He directs himself towards your illusion!
<DM> *Though...... he's not moving. I guess part of this is cause, well..... he already used his turn.
* Darte nods.  "Right.  Hands on those pads, I'll be right back." He looks across and dartes back over to Hal's former position.
<DM> (do you have the magic for that?)
<Darte> (If the kargorok had magic to siphon)
<DM> (righto, that it did)

<DM> *You bounce over, and now Zant is focused on both you and Hal's illusion.
<DM> [Zant]: Oh, you couldn't beat me together before. What makes you think this'll be any different this time?
<Darte> "BECAUSE WE'RE SMURT"
* Darte slaps a hand on the pad. (Assuming turn bounds are OK)
<DM> (yep)
* Hal unequips his Cane of Dekri and uses Stealth Strike on Zant while he is distracted through focusing on Darte.
<DM> *You hear a ding! You also hear two more dings, echoing from the other side!

<Darte> "HAAAAAAAL get your furry butt over here!"

<DM> *Whereas before, when Darte's hookshot shenanigans killed him..... the Golden Shield's insane sturdiness instead causes the whole ground to shake before outright destroying a section of the wall. It turns around, it shield not even dented as Twili guts slip off of it. Zant finishes his mid-air acrobatics and lands next to it.

<DM> *He tries to Shadow Portal out, buuuuuut he's missing his Fused Shadow.

<DM> *From behind you all, the Golden Kargarok flies into the air, then charges at the two closest to him, soooo Hal and Darte!
* Darte looks to Midna.  "Y'righness?"

<DM> *Before you react, though, Midna extends her shadow in a great shockwave around her. It extends past your own shadows, up the walls, past the cliff off the Gravity Bridge. From it, a massive hand of shadows appears, reaching up and grabbing the Golden Kargarok. The hand is just as large as the Kargarok.
<DM> [Midna]: Get out, you darned beast.
<DM> *The hand reels backwards, then chucks the Golden Kargarok across the Gravity Bridge!

<DM> *The force of it actually bypasses the effects of the Gravity Bridge, pushing against it, and landing the Golden Kargarok next to the dead Argarok.
<DM> *Her shadows pull inwards back towards herself, then pulling into each half of the Fused Shadow before pulling them together, refusing them into one whole piece. The mask glows a dark light as it covers her face.
<Darte> "... I want her on my baseball team."

<DM> *Midna steps forward towards Zant, her collective power of dominion over shadows looming over Zant's pitiful self.
<DM> [Midna]: I now take my place as rightful heir to the throne. I am Queen Midna, and I hold dominion over all shadows! And now, as for you...
<DM> *Zant crumples to the ground, attempting to beg for forgiveness.
<DM> [Zant]: N-n-no, no, please, PLEASE, my Queen! You wouldn't dare... after I, I'm a Twili! You wouldn't really hurt one of your own?
<DM> *Through the slits in the mask, you see her eyes squint down.
<DM> [Midna]: Hmm... you're right. I wouldn't go so low as you to hurt one of my kind.
<DM> *Zant sighs in relief.
<DM> [Midna]: ... those two, on the other hand.
<DM> *She notions towards you two, Darte, and Hal.
<DM> *Darte, you do have another Slipstream charged by now...
* Darte grins.  "Always ready to deliver the justice of the Crown, y'righn-- y'rmajesty."
<DM> [Midna]: Do what you wish with Zant. I have no use for him any longer.
<DM> *Midna stands back a bit.
<Hal> With pleasure.
<DM> *Zant turns towards you, his face contorting into horror, his eyes actually cracking as blue-blooded tears roll down.
<Hal> (Can you steal Twili Faries?)
<DM> (The Twili already snagged them)
<Hal> (Oh)
<DM> *Twili2 appears from the palace gates, handing over Midna the other Twilight Fairy, and watching with her as you two exact retribution upon Zant's soul.
* Darte gestures to Hal. "Be my guest.  I've already had a crack at 'im."
* Hal holds his Warlock Blade up in the air, drawing in electricty and moisture from the air, charging...
<DM> (I am allowing a special move where you get to channel its hit-all sage power attack into its stab attack)
<Hal> (Can he defend this?)
<DM> (He's so screwed and broken down, he's just... not)
<DM> *It glows a bright white. Sage power courses through the blade, then into you, Hal. Although you're not a Sage, you feel someone else's hands grab the blade. An actual Sage, channeling their power through you.
<Hal> (That's better than the idea I had... go all ham on Frozen Storm because I haven't used it for so long)
<DM> (ooooooooh)
<DM> (..... add that one too. FOR THE LULZ.)
<DM> *Since the only other Sage you've met is Impa, that would mean.......
<DM> *You feel the power of shadows grab ahold of you and your blade. You start to flicker in and out of darkness.
* Hal has fully charged up, the blade glowing a bright white with a flurry of ice and electricty whirling around the blade on addition to the whirling darkness and tempest from the blade.
<DM> *Darte, you feel an actual pull towards the blade, as its creating its own gravitational singularity. You're able to hold your ground though.
* Darte 's sweat drops seem happy to join, though.  This is a little terrifying.

<DM> *The light that zips into the sky, pulls stormclouds togther...
<DM> *The clouds coalesce into a whirlpool of lightning and hail. It amplifies together with the light, then strikes back down in a ferocious storm! Zant's body is impaled by lightning bolts, pelted by hail strikes, and ripped apart into pieces by the sheer force from the wind.

<DM> *Sunglasses appear on Twili2 momentarily.

<DM> *Hal, the remaining sage energy pours from you into Darte, reigniting Faron's spirit.
<DM> [Faron]: Ah, I have my power back! I can assist once more!
* Darte hops from foot to foot, suddenly feeling antsy again.
<Hal> With gratitude.
<DM> *You feel light as a feather!
<DM> [Midna]: I'd be happy to reward you somehow, but... the situation at the Sol Fountain is bad. There's no time to waste. Guard, hold down the fortress, make sure nothing gets past this gate-
<DM> *Right then, the Golden Kargarok screeches loudly from across the bridge.
<DM> [Midna]: Well, I guess we can take down that thing first. Shouldn't be too bad.
<DM> [Twili2]: Wait, uhhh... guys? What's that? I thought you killed the Argarok?
<DM> *Looking in Golden Kargarok's direction, it's about to fly towards you... but you see something rising up behind it: The Argarok. You could swear you two killed that thing...
* Darte waves at Twili2.  "I'm sure you've got this."
<Hal> This is not the Argarok, this is a Kagarok with Gorbus' shield!
<DM> [Twili2]: Yeah, I see that, but... behind it, look!
<DM> *From behind the Golden Kargarok, the Argarok rises once more. It's still missing a wing, and its blood is still everywhere, but now it's got veins and tendrils popping out, even one of its eyes hanging out partially.
<Hal> Noo...
<DM> *Hal, you feel your madness flare suddenly. Really, REALLY badly.
<DM> *The great Argarok opens its mouth, and in one snap of its bite, it chomps the Golden Kargarok in half, swallowing Gorbus' shield with it.
<DM> *Right in front of the Argarok, you see a familiar Chaos Warp Shield....
<Hal> Gaah! This is not the Argarok we fought earlier! It's being controlled... The Happy Mask Salesman is here!
<DM> [Mask Man]: What a FINE specimen you've all laid for me!
<DM> [Midna]: The happy what now?
* Darte shivers, looking at Midna's newly-masked face.  "Uhhhh.  Y'rmajesty, we might want to move.  NOW."
<DM> [Midna]: I'd be open to attacking it, but it appears to be larger than it's supposed to.
<Hal> Yes, we need a plan of dealing with this thing.
<Hal> Attacking or not!
<DM> *The Argarok is indeed growing in size as its flesh malforms, splits off, and grows further. It begins to start stomping towards you.
<DM> *Its total size is larger than that of the Gravity Bridge, and it has now Godzilla'd its way to being taller than the Twilight Palace.
<Darte> "... Fountain first, then we'll have some proper backup to take this thing on."
<DM> [Midna]: ... I hate to lose the Palace... but I'm not sure we have a choice.
<Hal> Right.
<DM> [Midna]: Guard, close the gates, and get Zuph some treatment. I'll lure him across the Great Ruins so he stays away from the Palace.
<DM> [Twili2]: On it! Good luck to you, and return safely!
<DM> *He takes Zuph and heads inside, closing the gates.
<Darte> (Where's the fountain from here? Visible at all?)
<DM> (Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay south. Not visible at all from here.)
<Hal> Deal with the bigshot Interlopers, including Dark Link.
* Hal shudders at the thought.
<DM> *Midna draws a large shadow portal, then drops herself and you two into it. A moment later, you emerge in the Great Ruins, on the opposite side of the Argarok. She uses a shadowy hand to grab a nearby rock, then chucks it at the Argarok.
<Darte> "I can draw this off in one way, then flash back to y'all and run the other way."
<DM> *The rock knocks off a chunk of its flesh, but it just grows new hanging-off flesh. The Argarok turns around, looking now at you three.
<DM> *Mask Man walks up, rubbing his hands together, all giddy.
<DM> [Mask Man]: Ooh, a diversion!
<DM> [Mask Man]: That's all right. I have no interest in the Twilight Palace. I'd just like to test out my new friend here!
<DM> [Mask Man]: Now, my little pet... let's go for a walk!
