  1. 2017-03-13 13:54:53 quanticle To be honest, I don't see a way forward, long term, other than socialism. I was reading some more interviews with people from "Trump country", as it's been termed, and one thing jumped out at me. They kept going on about how they don't want welfare, how they don't want a handout, and what they really want is a stable well-paying job. Well, that's all fine and good, but those stable well-paying jobs that you could get with a high-school education and strong muscles are gone. And they're not gone to China; they're gone to robots. No amount of tariff boosting is going to bring them back. So, long term, it's either accept the welfare (whether it's called "welfare", "disability" or "universal basic income" is somewhat immaterial) or starve on the street.

  3. 2017-03-13 14:02:36 [redacted] that doesn't sound much different than welfare tbh
  4. 2017-03-13 14:02:47 [redacted] because if you get a job doing what you're "worth" to the capitalistic machine, you make minimum wage
