  20. Rules for comparative adjectives:
  21. - compare two (groups of) things
  22. “short” adjectives (1 syllabale, 2 if the last syllable is ‘y’ or ‘le’): adjective+er
  23. cheap / cheaper, small / smaller
  24. heavy / heavier, pretty / prettier, happy / happier, friendly / friendlier, simple / simpler
  25. “long” adjectives (3+ syllables, most 2-syllable): more + adjective / less + adjective
  26. more expensive / less expensive
  27. more interesting / less interesting
  28. more useful / less useful
  29. irregular adjectives
  30. good / better
  31. bad / worse
  32. far / farther

  34. Adverbs are compared the same way as adjectives, except that all 2-syllable adverbs use “more” and “less”, unless they’re the same as an adjective:

  41. Degrees of comparison:
  42. A price of $101 is a little more expensive than a price of $100
  43. (or “slightly” or “a bit”)

  48. This shirt is as beautiful as the other one.
