  1. (This is quite a long story. Take a deep breath...)
  2.
  3. Okay people. A thousand apologies for being so selfish. But, we (authors of the paper) enjoyed a lot. While you guys were busy chatting with me & commenting, we were spying on everything you people spoke...
  4.
  5. Firstly, let me introduce ourselves. We're not theoretical physicists. But, we specialize in several conceptual physics fields at Physics Stack Exchange (except Karthikeyan). We just love Physics and you can find us at our h-bar chat room).
  6. And, these are real...
  7.
  8. 1) R. Shankar - A layman in everything...
  9. 2) K. Manoharan - Philosopher taking his self-learning introductory course on Quantum Mechanics (I haven't spoken to him much, but we're more or less the same, except that he's quite soft and bulky.
  10. 3) G. Manish - American-Indian learning Engineering (most probably, pure) physics in IIT, Mumbai ("should be a brother", a friend, chatter, meta specialist)
  11. 4) C. White - Grad student in Astrophysics (my fav. field) at Princeton, NJ, Astronomer, chatter, etc.
  12.
  13. What I posted last night was really a FAKE..! I posted it "not" because I want to publicize myself, but to investigate how many people can be fooled really...
  14.
  15. There were three kinds:
  16. 1) People who actually read the post and believed it (who thought it was worthy, of course it is...)
  17. 2) People who just liked it without looking "what the hell is inside it..."
  18. 3) People who were busier than me... (didn't notice at all)
  19.
  20. What's the PLAN?
  21.
  22. The plan was really brought out by "me" (you can scold, beat or punch me, but don't get disappointed on me). I used the Markov-chain generator to generate a custom-author math paper (PDF). Normally, LATEX-compiled PDF can't be edited at all. You need the source code of it. I got it, plugged it into the TeX editor. The old paper was completely math. So, I need a bunch of physics parameters like "Calabi-Yau manifold, Riemann, Ricci curvature, M-theory, etc, SUSY". I knew that you guys would read only the abstract and the first para, get confused and finally skim other pages as fast as you can. So, I included these words in the first page and made our paper to appear "physical" (string-theoretical to be precise). I named it Witten because he's the author of M-theory.
  23.
  24. What's that paper?
  25.
  26. If you read about the Markov chain generation, you can finally conclude that the whole paper is a "TRASH, JUNK, BIN" or whatever you like. The paper has randomly selected inter-linked sentences and equations made out of some 300k papers, along with a custom-author name, that makes a layman believe as if the OP has written a real paper. Truly speaking, I didn't go through the paper at all.
  27.
  28. Thank you - both GUYS & GIRLS...
  29.
  30. Again, Please pardon me fellas. I fooled many of you (some escaped by luck, that they didn't notice it). But, this is totally meant for FUN & FUN-only. Though I wasted 6 hours (1 hr - making, 2 hrs. - chatting here & there, 3 hrs - spending time with freaked out people), I was really HAPPY, the whole day. I know this can shake a few people. Don't worry... I'm just a dumb guy. And, Thank you.
  31.
  32. Thank you ALL..!!!
