  1. 1) What are the three primary reasons outlined for why Canadians, in recent years, are becoming more entrepreneurial?
  2. - Entrepreneurs are celebrated in their communities and the media, becoming our new role models
  3. - Job security, entrepreneurs have lots of projects going on at all times, if one fails they have many others they can rely on for income.
  4. - In a traditional job, you can be laid off for a multitude of reasons, and might have a lot of trouble finding work again.
  5. - Entrepreneurship is a chance to turn a passion into a career, rather than finding a company that aligns with your interests to work at, you can turn your passion into a new business.
  6. 2) Who, in your opinion, would benefit from the creative destruction process and why?
  7. 3) What is the talent triangle, and what are the three components?
  8. - The talent triangle is describes the essential management elements that all businesses must have covered to be successful.
  9. - Business acumen (skills and expertise in the development of strategy and the execution of business planning, make key business decisions)
  10. - Operational experience (prior know-how about building and delivering the solution, business plan)
  11. - Domain Knowledge (understanding the customers and industry within the business domain, hands on experience in the industry)
  12. 4) Why do you suppose the authors say that in entrepreneurship “ideas are a dime a dozen”? What does this imply about an idea’s importance to a successful business?
  13. 5) Discuss some issues around being secretive about your business idea
  14. (i) You get valuable feedback from others by bouncing your idea off of people, whether they are friends, or people with expertise in the industry. Gauge excitement for overall idea, and specific features. Might discover it’s a bad idea, and save yourself.
  15. (ii) People are lazy, people are very unlikely to listen to your idea, care about it, think it was interesting, remember it, go home and implement it, launch it successfully and take all of the success.
  16. Even if someone were to steal your idea, most people lack the resources and experience to launch it, and it’s your idea, you’ve been thinking about it longer.
  17. The initial idea isn’t that important, it’s all about the execution
  18. (iii) Your product’s first iteration will not be good enough, you will fail if you don’t get smart people’s advice on how to fix it before you run out of money.

  23. Ask yourself what you can change about your business plan, and about what can go right with your business launch.
  24. Modify your plan so that it better matches the needs of the customer, and so that it has advantage over competition. Entrepreneurial process is one of continuous adjustment.
  25. Analysis isn’t always accurate, not everything can be correctly analyzed, analysis should be used constructively, not destructively.
