  4.
  5. Well, race day is tomorrow, and after months of preparation, about as much internal disagreement as an IndyCar Oval discussion over setup sharing, and WAAAYYYY too much coffee, we’re finally here. The 24 Hours of Spa is finally upon us.
  6.
  7.
  8. It is VITAL that you read this email in full, and carry out any actions within it. I can’t be held responsible if you don’t follow the correct procedures for joining / running in the event, so please, please please pay attention!

  21.
  22. THINGS TO DO NOW!
  23. Make sure ALL your drivers are registered to the league. We attempted to invite anyone who was down to race yesterday, however was not registered. You MUST accept the invite or otherwise register at the following address, or you may have severe difficulties in racing:
  24. http://members.iracing.com/membersit...do?league=1293
  25. Send me your paint schemes if you already haven’t done so. Without this, you will potentially have a white car. Please follow the instructions here: http://racespot.tv/24h/paint/ (PW: 24paint )
  26. Read the rulebook. Read it again. Make sure your team mates read it. We hate penalties, and don’t want to issue any.
  27. Release your frustration. This is a long ass race.
  28. Remember that you are not a Corvette. You are not a pace car…. (More to come on this).
  29.
  30.
  31. REGISTRATION FOR SESSION
  32.
  33.
  34. This is bloody important. So pay attention.
  35.
  36.
  37. First: If you haven’t, set up your team here:
  38.
  39.
  40.
  41. http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/MyTeams.do . Make sure ALL your team drivers are in BEFORE the race.
  42.
  43.
  44.
  45. ONE DRIVER PER TEAM MUST REGISTER TO THE EVENT at the start. You will access the session from here:http://members.iracing.com/membersit...gueSessions.do
  46.
  47.
  48. You select the team that you are running for. Until this point, NO other driver from the team should attempt to register. There’s a chance you will register twice for your team, everything will be screwed up, and we have to start again; and setting up these sessions are as hard as it is.
  49.
  50.
  51. When you register your team, you will asked who can join your team. Select ‘Only drivers within my team’ or word to that effect. Select everyone, and there is a 1 in 100000 chance Salma Ladak may try and race on your team . You need to ensure that members of your team are in your team however, otherwise, well, they can’t race!
  52.
  53.
  54. Once the race has started, other team members need to use the following link to enter the race:
  55. http://members.iracing.com/membersit...TeamsActive.do
  56.
  57.
  58. GRIDDING / RACE START
  59.
  60.
  61. As NEO and us both identified, there are some ‘issues’ concerning registration, gridding ETC. This has forced us to head on over to Plan B. This is kinda confusing if you don’t read this properly, so please read it properly! We will run a 30 minute practice session, followed by a 15 min 2 lap closed course qual session, then a 24 hour, 15 minute race. Why? Because if we grid you using the tournament style function, half of you will struggle to get in, and the grid will be borked as well. Luckily, the overlay is hard coded, so there will be no issues on showing qual times.
  62.
  63.
  64. For practice, do as you wish. Practice. For the Qual session, if you can run you your lap to as close to the target time as possible in this link, I will be rather happy: https://docs.google.com/a/racespot.t...AIg/edit#gid=0 . Why? This way you’ll line up in order, or pretty much as close to an order as possible.
  65.
  66.
  67.
  68. We have a special pace car being run by Josh King in a Corvette, hence the reason for there being a Corvette listed in the class order. He will only be used during the intial start, as afterward, we will use the secret alien iRacing Pace Car. This is mainly because we want to make sure that everyone can clearly tell when we are under caution, including on live timing etc etc.
  69.
  70.
  71. For the gridding, there will be plenty of time to make sure that you are in the right order, ready to go into the race proper. If there is a need to sort things out in detail, we will bring you down pit road, allow you to top up with fuel (If you want), then drive you off in order. We shouldn’t have to do this however, if you all play ball.
  72.
  73.
  74.
  75. The pace car driver has been advised to make sure that you are exiting Stavelot with 1 minute before the 24 hours start. He will then accelerate, and place the field in the hands of Coanda Simsport, as the race pole sitter. He will then be in charge of regulating the field to the green flag. The pace speed here will fluctuate, however should be around 60MPH to do it all in time. Ideally, Coanda will want to enter the bus stop with 15 seconds to 24 hours. At the point he crosses the S/F line, the C1 class will be green
  76.
  77.
  78. Vergil Racing and Team Tortoise will be in charge of the C2 and C3 classes respectively. I expect a good distance (10 seconds min please) between the last driver in one class and the first in the next; When the class leader crosses past the S/F line, you are also green. However, in ALL classes, you can not pass until you pass the S/F line.
  79.
  80.
  81.
  82. Simple? It really is if you pay attention.
  83.
  84.
  85. WHAT HAPPENS IF THINGS MESS UP?
  86.
  87.
  88. If iRacing goes down, the server SHOULD remain up. There may be an instance when people get dropped out of the session. In this case, we will go under yellow, and if necessary Red Flag conditions. We will monitor this closely, and if people start dropping like flies, will immediately goto an emergency procedure.
  89.
  90.
  91. In the first instance, we will go under Yellow, and assess the situation. If people continue to have issues / are dropping out, we will goto a RED FLAG situation, where all cars must return to Pit Road, and await further instruction. Most outages have been no more than 30 minutes, so as soon as people are able to rejoin, we will return back to yellow, and then green. The programme for this has to be rather bespoke, as we have no idea EXACTLY what will happen.
  92.
  93.
  94. In the event that the server dies, we will keep the ‘clock’ running, and set up a new server as soon as we can to resume the event. It will take 5 minutes AFTER we know iRacing is back up to work out exactly
  95.
  96.
  97.
  98. Once the server is up, we’ll run a 15 minute ‘practice’, then go under ‘YELLOW’, in order to re grid the field. In order to expedite this as quickly as possible, we’ll just place people back in order in relation to where they are to the CLASS LEADER. Ergo, the C2 and C3 class leaders will be back on the lead lap overall.
  99.
  100.
  101. Drivers 1, or 2 laps down will simply have to sit in Pit Lane until the field passes them the respective number of times under caution. Drivers 3 laps down or below will have to stay in Pit Road until all cars in their class passes them under green. This way, we can get back to the action as soon as possible
  102.
  103.
  104. Again, this is slightly bespoke, and we’ll have to play this one by ear. Something 20 hours into the event will be slightly more difficult to manage compared to 3 hours in, so this has to be Bourne in mind.
  105.
  106.
  107. RESETS / DAMAGE
  108.
  109.
  110. There’s been a lot of debate on this, which I recognise. Of course I get the final call, so I have all the crap lamped on me whatever I do!
  111.
  112.
  113. There will be ONE reset in the event, with restrictions. This is to eliminate any BS that may happen through lag etc. Hopefully, when you read my restrictions you’ll understand that this is really a failsafe, and not a method of ‘bowing to pressure’.
  114.
  115.
  116. We live in a sim racing world. Lag happens. I disagree with any driver who puts their 4+ inc per race down to incs. But I know that technical things CAN be a factor. Therefore, by including ONE reset, you have the opportunity to eliminate part of this, whilst not making it a repair free for all. The last thing I wanted was some feeling that every team had an Audi pit crew, and could get a car back up and running in 50 seconds, but I need to be able to allow for circumstances that exist in sim racing.
  117.
  118.
  119. You will NOT be allowed to take a free repair under any circumstances if the following happens:
  120.
  121.
  122. You crash and total your car yourself (You can’t drive it back to pit road without violating the rulebook”)
  123. Your irreparable damaged is due to a car contact which is obviously a normal racing incident (As determined by the stewards if needs be)
  124.
  125.
  126. In the event that any other incident causing use of the free tow is found to be unreasonable, relevant penalties will be issued.
  127.
  128.
  129. ALL OTHER RACING STUFF
  130.
  131.
  132. This is covered by the rulebook
  133.
  134.
  135. BROADCAST
  136.
  137.
  138. The race will be streamed on iRacing Live ( http://www.iracing.com/live ), and on the RaceSpot TV 24 Hour live site (http://www.racespot.tv/24H ). We’ll have sporadic updates on the RaceSpot TV live page throughout the course of the broadcast, and (HOPEFULLY) working live timing and scoring.
