Emmett + Kira, Dec 22

#01[01:05] <Knave> Emmett rarely got nagging thoughts - his brain scarcely had room. But he lately couldn't escape a sense that he was being... not quite himself. That there were things that defined him, and he wasn't doing them enough. Which was odd, but not even close to the oddest thing about him. Most people would probably decide that it's odder that he had chosen to address those thoughts by taking apart and reassembling the electronics in the dormitory's communal kitchen.
[01:12] <BobaFettuccine> And in walks a girl with bright blue hair and eyes. Her eyes look bloodshot, and she looks very tired but also slightly pleased with herself. She's dressed in a wrinkled white button up, that's unbuttoned to reveal a t-shirt with the classic A New Hope movie poster printed on the front, and black slacks. No shoes though. But the odd thing about her is how often she's sniffing the air around her.
#01[01:21] <Knave> The gremlin perched on the counter, cradling the blender in one arm and attacking it with a screwdriver in the other, looks up at the new arrival. The big, wide goggles covering his eyes entirely glow gently green as they stare at her. He makes a small noise, "My work, does it-" Then interrupts himself by sniffing twice, "No. Evidently not." He tilts his head very slightly as he looks at her, "Then why the repeated sniffing, one wonders, no obvious stimuli from the environment to prompt it, presumably personal quirk possibly related to anomaly, various possible reasons. Primary sense? Newly-acquired? Malfunctioning?" He speaks much too fast for it to be directed at anyone but himself, and then continues in a more conversational tone after a pause, "Apologies. Impolite of me. Your nose is your own business." He returns his attention to the blender he is taking apart.
[01:40] <BobaFettuccine> Kira looks over and blinks in surprise at... Emmett in general. "Yeah, uh. Just built a new body, it can smell stuff. Couldn't before." She says, before walking a bit closer, "Uh, whatcha doin with the blender?"
#01[01:49] <Knaveo> "Dissassembling it." He responds, then double-takes up at Kira. "New body? Built?" He sets the blender down on the counter beside him, and as he hops down onto the floor it breaks into two discrete pieces. "A remarkable facsimile..." He says, grinning at her, approaching her in a hunched posture. He's quite a small thing, wrapped up in a too-big labcoat. "You built this yourself? An excellent piece. Beyond my own craft, I must say." He circles her once, observing her handiwork, then his grin quirks upwards madly, "New-acquired olfactory. I was correct."
[01:54] <BobaFettuccine> "Well you were right with one of your guesses." She says with a little chuckle, "And thanks, I worked really hard on it. Took me awhile to bridge the code in my consciousness with the olfactory interface to where I could actually smell things." She frowns slightly at the blender that is now in two different pieces.
#01[01:59] <Knaveo> "It sounds as if you best me in two disciplines - I am slapdash at best when it comes to coding." He chuckles, which is a mildly unsettling sound. His observation is incredibly offputting, his face too close and his expression made even creepier than it would be ordinarily by his goggles obscuring the top half of his face. "Am I to take, then, that you are at least partially composed of... no, no, I must stop guessing." He stops in place from circling her and shakes his head at himself, "I will ask." He seems to be saying this to himself, and it is reminiscent of a small, earnest boy reminding himself of his manners. "May I ask what is the nature of the anomaly that brings you here?" He gestures widely at the room around them.
[02:05] <BobaFettuccine> She covertly takes a step back from him. "Uh, my normal body is basically a hard light projection made entirely of data." She says a little nervously. She then looks over at the blender again, that thing being broken was actually bugging her a bit, she wanted to put it back together. It's at that point that the two pieces levitate for a moment and then fit themselves together, the blender then plugs itself in and looks to be in perfect working order. At this, Kira blinks and stares in utter shock.
#01[02:08] <Knaveo> "Hard light." Emmett says. He begins chuckling, and it shortly becomes what can only be called a cackle. "Oh, forgive me. It is a remarkable world we live in, truly. Sometimes, I forget." Emmett, glancing around the room, notices the blender back together and considers it for a moment in silence before returning to his train of thought, "Might I ask, what advantage does a physical body have over a form composed purely of data? One would assume the latter more convenient, no?"
[02:12] <BobaFettuccine> "I... Uhm, what? Oh, yeah." She stops staring at the blender that... she had just made move? She has no idea how she did that. Either way, "Well, my data form doesn't have any senses beyond sight and sound." She says with a shrug, "I wanted to be able to feel again is pretty much it."
#01[02:15] <Knaveo> "The full range is certainly useful." He nods, the little toothy smile on his face very rodent-like. He straightens up very slightly and crosses his arms behind his back, "I myself felt the need to expand mine as much as possible." He taps the side of his goggles, "Why limit onself to the natural human limits, particularly in such a place where our abnormalities are celebrated?" He is oddly animated as he speaks, without his feet or arms really moving - it's not unlike a bobbing cobra. Or a pigeon.
[02:26] <BobaFettuccine> Kira too is rather quick and birdlike in her movements, although not in quite as much of an off-putting way as Emmett is. She's constantly in motion, especially when she's nervous. Like she is now. "Oh, uh. Yeah." She says, running a hand through her hair and glancing around the room again.
#01[02:30] <Knaveo> His smile falters to a small, odd shape, showing only his front teeth. A small whirr hums from his goggles, then he asks "Is something the matter?" He follows her eyes around the room, spinning on the spot.
[02:43] <BobaFettuccine> "No, nothing's wrong, I'm just... a little confused is all. Not used to having a fully physical body, it's been awhile." She's now looking at the blender again, trying to figure out how she'd put it back together without touching it. Could she take it apart too? Maybe if she tried... and then the thing just levitates a couple inches in the air and comes apart into each separate individual component, all of them setting themselves neatly in rows on the counter. The entire process takes roughly two seconds. "Whoa!" Kira says, a little dumbfounded at the moment.
#01[02:46] <Knaveo> Emmett follows Kira's gaze and watches the process unfold. "Fascinating." He adjusts his goggles, then returns his attention to Kira, "I take it this is... new, then?" He continues in a staccato mumble, just about possible to make out, "Possibly a latent ability manifested by physical form. Sympathetic? Extension of self? Hm."
[02:53] <BobaFettuccine> "I.. Uh... what?" Kira says, voice and expression filled with confusion, "I don't... How?" She looks down at her hands and blinks a few times.
#01[02:56] <Knaveo> Emmett clears his throat, "I am not familiar with your genesis, so my current theories are rudimentary," He begins, "But I would surmise that some kinship with machinery has always been a part of your makeup, but that an immaterial manifestiation was unable to exert any physical control." His adjusts his goggles with authority, "It would appear to me that your new machine body acts as a kind of channel or gobetween for this capacity."
[03:15] <BobaFettuccine> "I..." And then Kira's surprise turns to rational analysis, how /had/ she done that? It must be something to do with the new body. "You might be right, probably something to do with the code I put in there to bridge my senses. Maybe an amplifier, I can already control tech that I'm inhabiting, this is just kinda a step up from that..." She trails off then blinks and looks back up at the blender. "Oh! I should probably put that back together."
#01[03:19] <Knaveo> Emmett glances at the blender, "Perhaps." He nods absently, "My name. I always forget." He puts a hand on his forehead and shakes his head, "I have not introduced myself, and here I have been speculating about you to no end." He puts forward a gloved hand to shake, "Emmett Walter Montgomery Percival Epstein."
[03:31] <BobaFettuccine> "Oh, I'm Kira. Kira Robinson" She says with a smile reaching out to take his hand and shake it, as she does, her attention is turned away from the blender and she accidentally... well the pieces fit themselves together and modify themselves to form a crude mechanical hand out of blender parts.
#01[03:34] <Knaveo> Emmett briefly shakes her hand, then follows her gaze again to observe the mechanical digits. "Fascinating." He moves to stand beside her, rubbing his chin at the blender, "It seems your subconscious continues to control items once you've established a connection." His teeth flash in his creepy little smile, "It is very exciting to witness the discovery of a new anomalous ability, I must say."
[03:54] <BobaFettuccine> "Huh. This is probably going to take some getting used to." She continues looking at the blender and it shifts around till it's just a blender again.
#01[03:57] <Knaveo> "And yet," Emmett says chirpily, folding his arms behind his back again, "You seem to be taking to it with aplomb. I shall leave you to it." He raises a hand in goodbye, "But I should certainly like to observe your new ability in action when you understand it better."
