- >You are Anonymous, and you've become used to the sound of the sewing machine in Rarity's boutique.
- >One thing you didn't expect from Rarity when you first arrived in Equestria was that her boutique would turn out to be a complete mess.
- >At least... her working area is.
- >It's difficult to navigate, and almost impossible to find something unless you're Rarity herself.
- >When you first started working with her you tried to organize her work space a bit while she was off doing something else.
- >Worst mistake of your life.
- >Rarity freaked and kicked you out of the boutique for two hours.
- >You learned a lesson that day, and you learned it hard.
- >To tell the truth, you don't know why Rarity hired you.
- >You're not a very good assistant.
- >She has taught you a lot, but the most you're capable of is stitching a few things she asks you to, maybe some sewing, and handing her whatever she needs.
- >In fact, that's what you're doing right now.
- >You're both in her work room, and Rarity is on the sewing machine.
- >A stack of clothes lays next to you, and whenever she asks for a certain type or color, you hand it to her.
- >You suppose she's trying to teach you, so you can start actually helping at some point.
- >Still, you've been working here for a couple of months, and you've been in Equestria even longer than that.
- >"Anonymous, can you hand me the blue one?"
- >And so it goes.
- >You set it in the sewing machine for her, and she smiles, "Thank you."
- "Hey Rarity?"
- >The sewing machine kicks back on, and Rarity's eyes are now focused on her task, "Yes?"
- "Why did you hire me?"
- >"Well, I needed someone else in the boutique, of course. My dresses have been rather popular lately. Higher class styles for affordable rates, because they're all hoof made. The more... prominent big name dress makers have always been angry with me. High demand means more work, more work means I need to hire help."
- "Yeah, I get all that, but when you first hired me I didn't really know how to do much."
- >Rarity frowns and shifts the cloth a bit before she starts pushing it again, "The simple truth of the matter is that I knew you needed a job. I suppose you could have worked in the library with Twilight, or the bakery with Pinkie. That would have been fine, but... I felt compelled to take you in."
- >You let out a sigh.
- >You know exactly why she wanted to be the one to take care of you.
- "Rarity, listen, I'm..."
- >She smiles warmly, "Oh please, there's no need for that Anonymous."
- "But I treated you like crap."
- >"And now we are HERE."
- >You have to give her that one.
- "I thought you were..."
- >"Shallow, narcissistic, vain, and um..." Her face goes red and she clears her throat, "Loose was the term you used, I believe."
- >You shake your head and laugh.
- "God, don't remind me. It's just a stereotype that happened to be true in my life, at least until I met you."
- >You think her face goes even more red at that, "Yes. I can't blame you for a broken heart, can I?"
- "It comes with being spoiled rotten, I guess. Rich kids like me always dated rich girls. Shoulda taken the tabloids as a hint to what was coming."
- >"One thing that's been bothering me, Anonymous."
- "What would that be?"
- >"You seemed rather eager to take the position."
- >Now it's your turn to blush.
- "Uh..."
- >There's a long moment of silence. You try to think of a reply, but nothing comes to you.
- >Truth is, you were eager to work for Rarity because after the initial mess with her was over and done with you developed a bit of a crush on her.
- >Every time you see her it fucks with your head a little bit. At first you tried to reason it out as a shallow thing; it's been a long time since you've had any real contact with a woman.
- >Then, you tried to tell yourself that it couldn't work because you're different species.
- >When it didn't go away then, you just tried to bury it.
- >However, it's always there, waiting for the opportune moment to show itself like it has now.
- "Rarity, I..."
- >"Ow..."
- >Saved by the sewing machine.
- >Rarity was so busy concentrating on the conversation that the sewing machine scratched her right hoof.
- >You move forward immediately, grabbing a spare shred of cloth.
- >Rarity lets out a sigh as she holds out her hoof.
- >You place the cloth on it.
- >It's in this moment that you realize your mouth is extremely dry, and you're staring Rarity right in her eyes. You try to swallow, but it doesn't really work.
- >Rarity frowns, her face turning red as she breaks eye contact and looks at the cloth on her hoof. "Th... thank you, Anonymous."
- "Yeah, good thing it's just a scratch... heh."
- >Well, this is awkward.
- >Rarity seems like she's trying to scrunch up into herself, but she doesn't pull her hoof away.
- >"Anonymous, can I ask you a question?"
- >You try not to bite your lip. She's so fucking close right now.
- "Yeah... what's up?"
- >She opens her mouth to speak, but hesitates.
- >KNOCK KNOCK
- >You both nearly jump out of your skin.
- >A young voice yells from outside the boutique, "Rarity, I'm home. Why is the door locked?"
- >Rarity's face, if possible, goes an even deeper shade of red at that question, "Um, just a moment Sweetie Belle, I'll be right there."
- >You tie off the cloth on the end of her hoof, and she reluctantly pulls away from you.
- >With a disappointed sigh she walks to the door and opens it with her magic, "I'm sorry Sweetie Belle, but I closed up shop for the day because Anonymous and I are so far behind."
- >Sweetie Belle grins, "It's okay."
- >Rarity turns back to you and smiles, "You can have the rest of the day off if you want, Anonymous."
- >You give a nod.
- >It might be best to get some time to yourself and sort out all your thoughts.
- ------
- >Twilight's library is always quiet. You knock on the door softly, and after hearing hoofsteps, it flies open. When Twilight sees you she smiles, "Oh, hello Anon. What brings you here?"
- >You shrug.
- "Dunno. I was just taking a walk to clear my head and my feet kinda took me here."
- >"Come on in."
- >You step past the threshold, and Twilight shuts the door behind you with her magic. You follow her to the few chairs she has and take a seat in one.
- >You and Twilight have always been close. She was the first one you met when you landed here, and she was also there to scold you when you were being stupid.
- >She's kind of like the sister you never had.
- >"So what's on your mind?"
- >You laugh.
- "Is it really that hard to guess? Should be pretty obvious, I think."
- >Her look of confusion is quickly replaced with one of understanding, "Ah, I see."
- "I've uh... decided, but I just don't know how to go about it."
- >Twilight gives a sagely nod. A notebook and a pen floats next to her head, but you pay no heed to, she always does this. "Well, ponies are fundamentally different from humans, at least from what you tell me, but there's nothing preventing you from doing this."
- >You sigh and shake your head when heat rises to your face.
- "That's the thing. It's kind of been a while since I've felt like this. I'm planning on talking to Rarity tomorrow."
- >Twilight frowns, "Then what are you doing here?"
- "Kind of needed to vent I guess."
- >She huffs, "Well why didn't you just say so?"
- >The notebook falls to the floor and Twilight steps forward. She jumps up onto her hind legs and wraps her hooves around you in a hug.
- >You have little choice but to return it.
- "Thanks Twilight."
- >It's been about a week since you arrived in Equestria.
- "I just don't see why I have to be the one who apologizes!"
- >Twilight stands in the center of the library, glaring daggers at you.
- >You're stuck outside in the rain, freezing your ass off, and she's not letting you in until you go and apologize to that bitch Rarity.
- >You already tried getting past the barrier that's blocking the door, but Twilight's a fucking wizard, so you didn't get far down that road.
- "Twi, come on! She's the one that started it! All I was doing was shopping and she started talking shit."
- >Twilight's not listening to you.
- >You let out a growl and spin around, storming towards Rarity's place.
- >Fine, fuck her then. If she wants you to be the fucking adult then you will. Honestly, you're not too pissed about apologizing, but it seems like Twilight is always thinking Rarity's the innocent one here.
- >That pisses you off more than anything else.
- >You do not understand for the life of you why you have to live with HER of all people. You've tried every day to get Twilight to let you crash at the library, and she refuses every single time.
- >It's getting on your nerves.
- >You usually try your best to avoid Rarity like the plague.
- >You get up earlier than she does, leave the boutique before she starts working, and generally just try to stay away from her at all times.
- >Whenever the two of you get together it's like a bomb waiting to go off.
- >One of you will snap at the other, it's inevitable, and it can only go south from there.
- >You don't even understand what twilight is trying to do here. What does she honestly expect will happen?
- >You finally reach the boutique, still seething in rage.
- >You lift up your hand to knock, but then you hear something.
- >Sobbing.
- >You grit your teeth.
- >"It's okay Rarity." You recognize that voice... Fluttershy.
- >"No... it's *hic*, not. I should have kept quiet, but I was so angry from yesterday, and he's... he's always avoiding me."
- >You turn around and lean against the door, slipping your hands into your pockets as a feeling of guilt starts to creep into you.
- >Why are you the one suddenly feeling guilty?
- >She was the one who started shit with you at the market, not the other way around.
- >You're absolutely soaked from the rain, but you can't bring yourself to move.
- >"Rarity, sometimes... sometimes it's hard to avoid hurting friends. Remember Iron Will?"
- >You hear Rarity sniffle, "Oh Fluttershy, that wasn't your fault, Dear."
- >"Yes, it was, but you were all there for me. It's okay to be angry at him, he's been avoiding you, but that doesn't mean you should give up."
- >You turn back around and knock on the door a few times.
- >There's a moment of silence, then the sound of hooves.
- >Fluttershy is the one that opens the door, "Oh, hello Anon. Um... Rarity isn't feeling well, so maybe you should just go right upstairs, if that's alright with you."
- "I need to talk to her."
- >"I don't know if..."
- "To apologize."
- >Fluttershy's worried expression gives way to a warm smile, "Oh, okay then." She opens the door the rest of the way and moves aside, "I should get back home, Angel Bunny is probably getting hungry."
- >Quiet as always, Fluttershy exits the boutique and gently closes the door behind her.
- >Rarity is a mess, her mascara is all fucked up from her tears.
- >Honestly, you're no better, having been out in the pouring rain for about half an hour.
- >Rarity takes a deep breath and frowns at you, "Anonymous, you're soaked to the bone." Her horn starts to glow, and you see her vanity drawer open up to reveal white towels.
- >One starts to float out of the drawer and towards you.
- >You hold out your hands and grab it.
- >Working the towel through your hair, you let out a sigh.
- "Listen, Rarity, I'm..."
- >"I'm sorry Anonymous."
- >Wut?
- >"That outburst at the market was... unladylike." She clears her throat and trots towards you. "It has been a very interesting week."
- "Yeah, I guess it has. Listen Rarity, I'm sorry too. If I hadn't been making assumptions about you and avoiding you, you wouldn't have been so angry at me. It's just... women that act like you do in my world aren't all that great usually. Add that to the fact that I'm kind of homesick, and I kind of just ended up using you as an outlet for my anger. Twi must have been trying to make me get along with you."
- >Rarity takes another deep breath and smiles, "You look quite the mess, Anonymous."
- >You smirk.
- "You look like you've just been dumped or something."
- >She brings a hoof to her mouth and giggles, "Oh, it must be horrid. We really should clean ourselves up."
- -------
- >You wake up in the guest bedroom of Rarity's boutique. You haven't ever dreamed the past like that before now. Maybe it's a sign of how much Rarity's been on your mind lately.
- >You let out a deep yawn and sit up.
- >After dragging your own lazy ass out of bed and getting a bath you make your way into the work room of the boutique.
- >The room is cluttered to all hell, as usual.
- >Rarity is up early this morning, already manning the sewing machine and humming to herself as she works.
- >You end up just staring at her while she works.
- >Getting kind of creepy there, Anon.
- >Apparently you arrived just as she was deciding to take a break, because she shuts the sewing machine off and turns around to walk away, but her eyes catch you at the door.
- >Her face immediately goes red, "Anonymous? H... how long were you there?"
- >You're not doing too well in the blush department, either.
- "Um... just a few minutes."
- >She scuffs the ground with her hoof and takes a deep breath. You can tell she's trying to say something, but she can't exactly get it out.
- "About yesterday..."
- >Rarity nods firmly, a frown of determination appearing on her face, "Yes, about yesterday. It was inappropriate."
- "What?"
- >Before you can react, Rarity is right in front of you.
- >She jumps up and you catch her out of reaction just as she presses her lips into yours.
- >You bring a hand around her neck as she lets out a light moan.
- >Alas, good things can't last forever, and she breaks away as you gently set her back to the ground.
- >She looks dazed as she smiles up at you.
- >"Yesterday was inappropriate, Anonymous. You should never leave a lady wanting like that."
