In the wild grass, it will take on a plant and become a Grass type, in a cave it will use a boulder and become a Rock type, in a mountain it will use snow and become an Ice type, in the desert it will use mud and sand to mold itself a potlike shell and become Ground type, and in a building it will use mechanical parts to become Steel type.
