  1. Apr 27 16:30:23 <Vern|GM> Jenas sat on the roof of his home, staring at the ocean. It has been yet another week from the time that Kuni had completely destroyed the Dai Li agents and fled with his dragon.
  2. Apr 27 16:30:27 <Vern|GM> And the time was... boring.
  3. Apr 27 16:30:45 <Vern|GM> Like, really boring. Nothing interesting happened. The villagers simply returned to their routine.
  4. Apr 27 16:31:08 <Vern|GM> But apparently today was a special day. A lot of villagers were on the port, waiting for something. ||
  5. Apr 27 16:34:09 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas smiled to himself. True, the past week had been practically mind-numbing, but he had gone out of his way to do extra work for an opportunity much like this one. He jumped down from the roof, trying to land silently, just for kicks, before moving towards the port.||
  6. Apr 27 16:39:22 <Vern|GM> Ships, no flags from any countries, simply large ships were visible from afar, approaching the village. It didn't take long for them to arrive, and there was a reason of why the villagers welcommed them so easily. Merchants!
  7. Apr 27 16:40:15 <Vern|GM> Men and women alike, looking like they came from all around the world, stepped of the ships, large packs on their backs and barrles they rolled down. Within minutes a small stand was already opened. In a few hours, the whole port would be filled. ||
  8. Apr 27 16:42:44 <Megafire|Jenas> There was a very good reason the villagers, and Jenas in particular, loved merchants. They brought the most valuable commodity of all: stories. The island was rather isolated, so they relied on merchants for rumours and simple stuff to talk about. Jenas was very eager to see what they had for sale, this time.||
  9. Apr 27 16:46:01 <Vern|GM> One of the merchants grinned broadly as his stand opened up. "Fresh meat! Fresh meat! Slaughtered on the ship! Get the freshest meat of all the countries!"
  10. Apr 27 16:47:05 <Vern|GM> Another one finished just setting up, a sign above it saying something about fortune telling. A stand besides hers was filled with a multitude of weapons. ||
  11. Apr 27 16:50:36 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas still had some... issues with meat, and he wasn't entirely happy about that fact. Back when he'd first left the temple, he started eating a lot of it just because he could. His body had, evidently, been caught entirely off guard by this act of rebellion, and it hadn't gone very well. Weapons could be interesting, but it was the fortune teller
  12. Apr 27 16:50:36 <Megafire|Jenas> that caught his eye first. He approached, an excited smile on his face.||
  13. Apr 27 16:52:38 <Vern|GM> The woman smiled as he approached, sitting down on her chair and pulling on a small rope, drawing cloth around it and hiding both her and Jenas from sight. "A bit of privacy. Welcome in a place where past, present and future matter more than anything." ||
  14. Apr 27 16:56:26 <Megafire|Jenas> "Always appreciated," Jenas agreed. He sat down opposite her, almost giddy. He generally didn't put much stock in people who claimed they could see the future, but he liked being told about himself.||
  15. Apr 27 16:58:26 <Vern|GM> "I see a star of fortune above you, so let me give you this reading for free," she smiled. Her hair was hidden by a small hood, but her eyes glowed in the shadows from reflecting the candle's light. "Your name, airbender?" ||
  16. Apr 27 16:59:41 <Megafire|Jenas> He grinned. "Jenas, ma'am. World's worst airbender."||
  17. Apr 27 17:00:25 <Vern|GM> She smiled. "Jenas," she repeated, her hand held up in front of the young man's face.
  18. Apr 27 17:00:53 <Vern|GM> "You are a rebel," she said. "But you aren't here to let me tell you that, anyone could see that from the way you keep your hair," she said, giggling slightly.
  19. Apr 27 17:01:52 <Vern|GM> "You made a few mistakes, but none you regret, a free spirit," she continued. "And you provoked the wrong kind of people. I wonder... what lies your future..." ||
  20. Apr 27 17:03:29 <Megafire|Jenas> His grin didn't diminish, not even at the end. "To be fair," he said, "I didn't know he had a dragon."||
  21. Apr 27 17:04:53 <Vern|GM> Her eyes flickered slightly towards his, and she held out her hand for him to take. ||
  22. Apr 27 17:06:16 <Megafire|Jenas> He took it, surprisingly delicate. You didn't challenge a fortune teller when they were giving you a free reading, after all.||
  23. Apr 27 17:08:01 <Vern|GM> Her grip was like iron. "In your future I see... I seeeeee," she said. "I see fortune, misfortune! Like the flip of a coin, your future stays changed, and you will meet them..."
  24. Apr 27 17:10:01 <Vern|GM> "You will meet the Fifth," she stated. "And when it comes to that, not even I can see the results. I see graves, but I cannot say if they are yours or consequences of your choices... oh poor child, she said." ||
  25. Apr 27 17:11:22 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas let out a long breath, calming himself for a moment, as he turned serious. "Will I find what I want?" he asked.||
  26. Apr 27 17:13:12 <Vern|GM> "You will find war," she said, letting go. "War is coming, and you can do nothing to stop it. You are, after all, just one man." ||
  27. Apr 27 17:17:42 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas nodded, looking a little sad at the answer. "Well, so is everyone else," Jenas said. "But you're right, there are things involved here that are way bigger than me, and I'm just going to have to find a way through. Thank you very much, ma'am."||
  28. Apr 27 17:18:18 <Vern|GM> She smiled as Jenas left. The merchants were all busy selling their stuff, even more stands appeared but nothing really that would catch anyone's eye...
  29. Apr 27 17:18:46 <Vern|GM> At least nothing but the glider from another temple that sat among the junk of the weapon seller. ||
  30. Apr 27 17:20:58 <Megafire|Jenas> Now fate was really just messing with him. He liked those gliders, damnit! It knew he liked those gliders! They were awesome! But hey, he couldn't look too eager. Instead, he put on a bit of a distracted image (as is to be expected after a visit to a fortune teller, after all) as he looked through the weapon seller's other wares.||
  31. Apr 27 17:21:59 <Vern|GM> "Anything that interests you?" the man asked. "I have the finest steel from the Earth Kingdom here!" ||
  32. Apr 27 17:23:53 <Megafire|Jenas> He picked up one of the swords, holding it as if he knew what he was doing. "Hmm, not bad."||
  33. Apr 27 17:25:00 <Vern|GM> "Ah, of course, a fine piece of steel, but definitively nothing for you," he grinned. "Look at this," he said, pointing at the much thinner blade of a longsword. "For those arms, you should maybe use something with a bit more speed." ||
  34. Apr 27 17:27:57 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas laughed amicably, putting the sword down. "You may be right." He picked up the longsword instead, swinging it around a little bit, again, hoping to look like he knew what he was doing.||
  35. Apr 27 17:28:53 <Vern|GM> The man slapped it out of Jenas' hand before anyone could lose their heads the moment it almost slipped out of the sloppy grip. "I don't think weapons are really your forte, young man." ||
  36. Apr 27 17:30:08 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas shrugged. "Eh, I think staffs are more my thing, honestly." He nodded towards the glider.||
  37. Apr 27 17:32:26 <Vern|GM> "Ahhh, an interesting thing, not really useful for anything," he said. "I got it out of goodwill from the Southern Air Temple, it's yours for 40 bronze pieces!" ||
  38. Apr 27 17:35:51 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas raised an eyebrow. "What, really? You're selling me something you admit isn't useful for 40 bronze pieces? I'll give you 15."||

  43. Apr 27 17:42:32 <Vern|GM> The man grins. "Only because I like your smile," he said, grabbing the staff and tossing it to Jenas. ||
  44. Apr 27 17:43:30 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas took the staff with a nod, smiling wide for the man as he dropped fifteen coins in his hand. "So, where are you headed next, if you don't mind me asking?"||
  45. Apr 27 17:45:25 <Vern|GM> "Next up will probably be the Fire Kingdom. We just came from Earth territory," he answered. ||
  46. Apr 27 17:47:03 <Megafire|Jenas> Bummer. Still, he might be able to do a little bit about that. He looked a little worried. "You're sure about that? I think that's where the Fifth's dragon was headed. Might not be the safest place right now."||
  47. Apr 27 17:49:53 <Vern|GM> "Not my choice," the man shrugged. "But really, the Fifth's dragon was also here, and this place is still intact. They don't attack civilians and non-benders, after all." ||
  48. Apr 27 17:52:40 <Megafire|Jenas> Oh, so they were selective in their carnage? Why didn't he know any of this? Fuck, he hated this island. "It was here to pick up Kuni," Jenas said. "Who is a prick, by the way." He caught himself. "Whose choice is it, if you don't mind me asking?"||
  49. Apr 27 17:54:32 <Vern|GM> "K-Kuni?" he asked, obviously shocked. "H-holy shit, this is big! It's the captain you want to tell that, he owns all the ships, we pay a fee for the whole journey, generally we have the money in the moment we hit the first port, but he is the one that keeps this going. His name is Drake, he should be on the main ship, that's the one in the middle." ||
  50. Apr 27 17:57:02 <Megafire|Jenas> "Thank you," Jenas said. "Oh, and could you do me a favour? Don't mention that to the rest of the villagers? They're still a little bit nervous about the three Dai Li he killed." There, that should help. He made his way to the main ship, looking very much at ease as he did so.||
  51. Apr 27 17:58:30 <Vern|GM> The captain was sitting in front of it instead of inside, a grizzled man with a hat and uniform that looked way too old and strange to be an actual military one. ||
  52. Apr 27 18:00:19 <Megafire|Jenas> Weathered seafarer then. Nice. "Captain Drake, sir?" he asked as he approached. "I heard your next destination is the Fire Nation?"||
  53. Apr 27 18:00:38 <Vern|GM> "Aye, what's it to you?" ||
  54. Apr 27 18:01:54 <Megafire|Jenas> "Well, sir, I was hoping I could persuade you to reconsider," Jenas said. "The Fifth's dragon was headed that way, and they stopped to pick up Kuni along the way."||
  55. Apr 27 18:03:05 <Vern|GM> The man made a face. "Kuni, you say?" he asked. "That old cunt is still alive? He won't be for long," Drake stood up, moving into the ship and hurrying up to the top before taking a deep breath. "THE STAY HERE IS SHORTER THAN THOUGHT! BE FINISHED THE LEAVE A NIGHTFALL!"
  56. Apr 27 18:03:20 <Vern|GM> The villagers and merchants both seemed disappointed. ||
  57. Apr 27 18:04:50 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas was a little startled when he started yelling, but didn't go away just yet. "Yeah, you saw that wreckage on your way in? That used to be an Earth Kingdom ship. The prick killed three Dai Li agents before the dragon picked him up."||
  58. Apr 27 18:07:06 <Vern|GM> "I know," he said, looking down on Jenas. "That bastard nearly killed me once, and I promised I'd repay the favor." ||
  59. Apr 27 18:07:44 <Megafire|Jenas> "Can I ask who you are, sir?"||
  60. Apr 27 18:11:28 <Vern|GM> "I am Drake, the owner of these ships," he said. "I come from across the sea, far towards the west." ||
  61. Apr 27 18:12:09 <Megafire|Jenas> "So, you're a firebender, then?" Jenas asked.||
  62. Apr 27 18:13:12 <Vern|GM> "We don't have many benders across the sea," he said. "I come from outside the Elemental nations!" ||
  63. Apr 27 18:14:43 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas blinked. He hadn't even seen that on maps. Interesting. But that could wait, he had more important things to take care of first. "But you're still planning on chasing after Kuni? Risking everyone travelling with you?"||
  64. Apr 27 18:17:19 <Vern|GM> "They aren't in danger, Kuni doesn't fight non-benders, at least none but me," he said. "The moment the Fifth does anything like that, they lose their entire credibility, the top dogs won't allow that. I heard the last one that went rouge was hunted by Ookami." ||
  65. Apr 27 18:18:39 <Megafire|Jenas> "Well, here I was about to ask to come along, but I think I'll endanger your crew more than you would, in that case," Jenas grinned.||
  66. Apr 27 18:22:06 <Vern|GM> "You, endanger?" he asked. "You're weak, if anything, you would be a burden yes, but I can't take you with us anyway unless you pay." ||
  67. Apr 27 18:23:43 <Megafire|Jenas> "Oh, yeah, Kuni kind of doesn't like me," Jenas said, still grinning. "I think he's a bit pissy about me kicking his ass."||
  68. Apr 27 18:27:52 <Vern|GM> "HAHAHAHAHA!" the man laughed loudly. "As if! Not only a weakling, but a bragging one at that! I don't think I have place for you on my ship, boy! HAHAHA!" ||
  69. Apr 27 18:29:51 <Megafire|Jenas> Jenas laughed along. "Granted, the feeling's mutual after he blew up my ride to the Earth Kingdom," he pointed out. "Oh," he added, seemingly as an afterthought, "did I forget to mention? I'm an airbender." He tapped the glider on the ground, revealing its wings.||
  70. Apr 27 18:37:08 <Vern|GM> "Yeah, you definitively lost, I saw you buy that thing, an airbender without glider," Drake shook his head. "You should choose your words wisely, young man." ||
  71. Apr 27 18:42:03 <Megafire|Jenas> "Bought it for fifteen bronze pieces, even, can you believe that?" Jenas said. "Can't believe that guy turns a profit, really. Anyway, you know how Kyoshi put away his bending?" Jenas asked. "I'm willing to bet it didn't quite turn out the way she'd hoped. He was still really out of it when I fought him, and didn't manage to land a single hit. I hi
  72. Apr 27 18:42:03 <Megafire|Jenas> t him once and convinced him to stand down, we talked a bit, and then parted ways. Week later, shock and alarm, the Dai Li arrive, and turns out he's back at full strength. He blows up the ship I was on, calls me a traitor, and then leaves on his dragon." Jenas shrugged. "Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've seen of him, he looks like t
  73. Apr 27 18:42:03 <Megafire|Jenas> he type of guy to hold a grudge."||
  74. Apr 27 18:45:13 <Vern|GM> "Oh, he is," Drake nodded. "We used to be friends, until he joined the Fifth after his wife was murdered by a Earth Kingdom noble when she refused his advances. We had a fight after that, didn't see him since." ||
  75. Apr 27 18:50:18 <Megafire|Jenas> "You know, that's the kind of story that almost makes me feel bad for him, but then I'm reminded of the fact that he's a dick and all of that sympathy flies straight out of the window," Jenas said. "Less subtle than the dragon he flew on, not a strategic bone in his body, talks way too much when frustrated and I seriously doubt he's in on the Fifth
  76. Apr 27 18:50:18 <Megafire|Jenas> 's planning sessions, too much of a liability, given everything else. Might've been able to use him if I'd known he was as powerful as I was, which I really should've guessed. Fucking stupid, but eh."||
  77. Apr 27 18:50:40 <Megafire|Jenas> *powerful as he was
  78. Apr 27 18:54:59 <Vern|GM> "You think too low of him," Drake said. "He didn't usually lose his cool. Whatever Kyoshi did must have been very problematic."
  79. Apr 27 18:55:08 <Vern|GM> Without a further word he went back into the ship. ||
  80. Apr 27 18:58:22 <Megafire|Jenas> He probably did. Kuni must've been really frustrated fighting the world's worst airbender and losing while he used to be as powerful as he was. "How much for a ride?" Jenas yelled after the Captain.||
  81. Apr 27 18:59:04 <Vern|GM> "30 bronze, and you don't show your face in front of me during the sailing," he shouted. ||
  82. Apr 27 19:00:19 <Megafire|Jenas> "Deal!"||
  83. Apr 27 19:00:58 <Vern|GM> This night... the voyage started. ||||
