  4. ICC Fire Codes typically (but not in all cases) apply to new constructions in a given state. NFPA codes incorporated by reference typically (but not in all cases) apply to existing structures. DIY spaces may or may not have permits to occupy the structures they are in. Use public building records to see who property owners are and contact them to confirm the DIY space is there legally.
