- "There she is again, with a new guy as expected."
- "How long did she last with her previous guy?"
- "Hell if I know, less than two months I guess."
- "She's pretty, yeah, but she changes guys so often."
- "I still wouldnt mind getting a chance to date her,
- have you seen that ass?"
- "Idiot, have you seen how depressed the guys she
- dumped look?"
- "Yeah, but I wont get attached."
- They then laugh, hitting each other like kids. It was
- annoying. They were talking about this girl in school,
- Tabitha. She's really cute and pretty, and true, she
- does change boyfriends often, but that doesnt give
- them the right to treat her like this.
- I would have picked a fight with the a-holes, but
- Grace stopped me. "Leave them be."
- Grace is my long time neighbor and friend, she knows I
- can get very hot-headed at times, and would pick a
- fight with almost everyone who wrongs someone. She
- would often say smomething like: "Your heart is
- golden, but too bad your face isnt. Youre not that
- handsome, and getting your face beaten to a pulp
- doesnt exactly help that."
- But this time, she said something different, "Dont get
- involved with her, I have a bad vibe from her." I
- started to object, but she just raised her voice to
- silence me, "I know you want to be a hero, but look
- at her, she's no damsel in distress and even if she
- were, she has a surplus of dim knights to rescue her."
- She had a point as always, but I couldnt stop myself
- from thinking about her. Many have noticed how any of
- her boyfriends would be happy at first, but slowly,
- theyd get sadder and sadder, then as a final blow,
- Tabitha breaks up with them. Not much noticed though,
- that throughout the whole process Tabitha is happy,
- except maybe for the short time she is left without a
- boyfriend.
- Grace and I just watched Tabitha and her new boyfriend
- look happy, until we got sick of watching and moved on
- to a different topic.
- A few weeks later, while on my way home, I managed to
- spot Tabitha all alone sitting on the sidewalk feeding
- a cat. She looked wistful and oblivious to the world
- around her, focusing only on the stray feline. If my
- theory was correct, it meant she was probably single
- again.
- Against Grace's advice, I approached her and said hi.
- She gave me a strange look, sighed, then smiled at me.
- It was a cold smile, because although her lips were
- smiling, her eyes were sad and distant.
