  1. >you are Eventide
  2. >your dad convinced you that you needed to meet the rest of your people
  3. >'your people' being other satyrkin
  4. >your brain was racked with fears and oddly driven thoughts
  5. >what if they thought you were evil?
  6. >what if they thought you were a monster?
  7. >...
  8. >what if they didn't like your hair?!
  9. >such awful things should not be thought
  10. >"Eventide, sweetie?"
  11. >shit, was it time already?
  12. "Yes, dad?"
  13. >you hear him clambering up the stairs
  14. >he gives a soft knock before poking his woodsy, bearded face into the room
  15. >"Your mother would like to have a few words with you before we leave, ok?"
  16. >his face is beaming with excitement and pride
  17. >"My little girl is meeting the herd, this is great!"
  18. >you curtsy sheepishly, giggling with pure joy
  19. >you hug your dad before making your way to mom
  20. >she's calmly sitting at the kitchen table, eating a bowl of soup
  21. >she has worry in her eyes as she looks upon you, forming a weak smile
  22. >"Good evening, Eventide."
  23. >she leans forward, planting a gentle kiss on your forehead
  24. >she seems to be sitting on eggshells, wondering how to word her thoughts
  25. >you watch her mouth open and close in attempts to speak
  26. "Mom, is everything ok?"
  27. >"No, not at all." Her words rush out
  28. >she's looking at you, a new level of trepidation lathering her person
  29. >then, her expression softens
  30. >she notices the way you've done up your hair
  31. >calmly, she brushes your bang away from your eye
  32. >she bites her bottom lip, trying to stop it from quivering
  33. >unsuccessfully
  34. >she begins to flood tears, your own lip wiggling from the display
  35. >your mother wraps her forelegs around you, babbling of war and her past or something
  36. >finally, it ends with
  37. >"Be safe, my burning passion fruit."
  38. >she has you in her clutches, hugging you tighter than ever
  39. >her grip loosens, causing you to look up
  40. >your father's hand is on her shoulder
  41. "Dad?"
  42. >he looks at you and simply winks
  43. >"Shimmer, honey, it's time for me and Eventide to start heading out."
  44. >your mother nods, wiping her face and looking at you one last time
  45. >"One last thing... try and avoid Twilight Sparkle."
  46.
  47. >the trip to the train was an odd one
  48. >your dad handed you a hoodie and a cap, insisting you hide as best as you can
  49. >it's particularly difficult to hide that you were a satyr
  50. >apparently, that didn't matter
  51. >as you went to buy the tickets, the pony in the booth had already prepared a few words
  52. >"Wow! You're one of those satyrlings, eh?"
  53. "Y-yes sir."
  54. >"You're might cute! Here, second ticket is on me. Enjoy your trip!"
  55. >as odd as that was, it didn't particularly bother you
  56. >as you sat on the train now, drumming on your legs, dad just kept smiling at you
  57. >but a loud voice made you jump out of your legs
  58. >"Quit the goddamn tapping already!"
  59. "S-sorry ma'am."
  60. >a seat creaks as the person stands tall
  61. >really tall
  62. >holy shit, another satyr
  63. >you can tell she had the exact same thought as she stood there looking at you, her mouth agape
  64. >"...Who're you?"
  65. "What's that matter to you?"
  66. >"You're like me, but I've never seen you before. Now, who the hell are you?"
  67. >Dad stares daggers through her
  68. >"Why don't you come and sit with us, Alex."
  69. >in shock, the gryphon half-breed obeys, tucking her hands in her lap
  70. >her race was red with embarrassment
  71. >"How do you know my name?"
  72. >your dad sinks back, relaxed once more
  73. >"I write to the other humans around Equestria. It's how I get the news."
  74. >you notice Alex twiddling her thumbs
  75. >"How's Gilda? Is she still a raging cunt?"
  76. >Alex's head snaps up, nose scrunched in rage
  77. >Dad wiggles his finger at her, and she deflates
  78. >she slumps, arms crossed
  79. >"...Where do you think I get it from?"
  80. >Dad sighs and pats your back
  81. >"I'm going to the bathroom. Don't fight while I'm gone."
  82. >watching him walk away was like your boss at your full-time desk job telling you you needed to stay late today, just because
  83. >turning back around, Alex isn't scowling at you
  84. >instead, her eyes are widened and curious
  85. >"So who's daughter are you?"
  86. "Ever heard of Sunset Shimmer?"
  87. >"You mean Celestia's old student, Sunset Shimmer?"
  88. >you nod, worried about what she'd say next
  89. >"I thought she disappeared, never to return!"
  90. >you let out a bellow of relief
  91. "She was, but she came back in hiding."
  92. >Alex pounces to the seat beside you
  93. >literally a cat
  94. >"Can you tell me the whole story?"
  95. >you have to smile now
  96. "Of course. It's a pretty long train ride."
  97.
  98. >the rest of the train ride was really pleasant
  99. >you and Alex exchanged any info you could
  100. >she told you you had to meet her friends Kimmy and Mera
  101. >you hoped you would one day
  102. >you even received a fist bump as you exited the train
  103. >...is this what it's like to have friends?
  104. >you couldn't hold back a giggle
  105. >"Alright," your dad began. "From what I know, we should go to Sweet Apple Acres. Making ties with them almost guarantees..."
  106. >he trails off, eyes locked on something
  107. >following his gaze, you realize it's someone, not something
  108. >a purple unicorn and her satyr daughter, you assumed
  109. >"Twilight... Glimmer..."
  110. >he was in a state of fear and shock
  111. >the purple unicorn's horn began to glow as she stepped forward, baring her teeth at your father
  112. >"Glimmer, stand back."
  113.
  114. >sitting on your couch, you felt pretty embarrassed
  115. >you mother couldn't stop pacing
  116. >she kept nervously looking at the royal guardspony that brought you and Dad here
  117. >"I fucking warned you."
