setting backstory (WIP)

Soon after the swearing in of president Trump in 2017, construction begins on the Great Wall of Trump (and associated hotels and casinos along the wall).  By the end of the year, the basic framework is finished.  While it still doesn't stop the Mexicans, a few of them are bothered by it.  So bothered, in fact, that on the Day of the Dead in 2018, a small group of people from Mexico and Central America use ancient Mayan magics to resurrect and control Ronald Reagan.  Zombie Reagan fuses with a number of other corpses in order to tear down the Trump Wall, sparking a conflict with Mexico.  By the end of it in 2022, the US has won, but the war has become unpopular and the GOP is so fractured by conflict over whether to support Trump, the remnants of the GOP establishment, or the new Cult of Zombie Reagan (composed mostly of Mexican-Americans and Evangelical Christians who worship Zombie Reagan as an incarnation of God), that the Democrats take both the House and Senate.  Open borders with Mexico are declared and immigrants living in the US are given immediate citizenship.  Over the next few years, Mexico will slowly be assimilated entirely into the United States as a US territory, piece by piece as Mexican states individually petition to be annexed.

In the 2024 elections, despite the 22nd Amendment establishing term limits having be abolished during the War of the Wall, president Trump is unable to rally enough support for a third term.  So, in 2025, president Kanye West is sworn in.  He wastes no time in declaring himself official national deity of the United States, and enough people are so disillusioned with life and possessing a strange sense of humor by now that they actually go along with it and their faith allows him to become the divine entity Yeezus.  Thousands of members of the Cult of Zombie Reagan leave the country, emigrating mostly to Russia and central Africa.  Soon, the US is populated entirely by adherents of Yeezus and the nation becomes an effective theocracy.

Meanwhile, as migrants and refugees continued to pour into Europe and terrorist attacks became more and more frequent in the late 2010s, the governments of European nations are pressured to do something about it.  Drastic restrictions on immigration and restrictions on the religious freedom of Muslims are put in place, driving more and more Muslims to take up arms in the name of Islam.  The EU, a shell of its former self following the Brexit (which came to refer to a movement in which half of Europe left the EU following the UK's decision to leave), breaks down entirely, leaving only the currency and a few regulations which some countries follow purely out of habit behind.  Many European nations pass laws to allow native-born citizens whose families have been in the country for a number of generations to own and operate firearms.  Soon, native European nationalists and Islamic fundamentalists enter a continent-spanning conflict, effectively turning the land into a war-torn hellscape with no clear sides for any country to even declare war on.  Many people, in this time, begin to discover magical powers, which they typically attribute to their faith in their chosen god.

With the conflict in Europe seeing no end, by 2033, Russia invades Europe (now almost entirely bereft of functional governments), led by Zombie Reagan himself, clad in armor bearing symbols of all Abrahamic religions.
