- passive = [be] + past participle
- ---
- active: A thief stole my car.
- passive: My car was stolen (by a thief).
- active: Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa.
- passive: The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci.
- Why to use passive?
- - I don’t know who did the action.
- - The important thing is what received the action (my car / the Mona Lisa).
- (The painting doesn’t do any actions, it only receives actions other people do.)
- - The agent (who did the action) is unimportant or obvious.
- (Soccer is played all over the world. Paper was invented in China.)

- present perfect:

- ---
- the passive form (“be” and the verb) goes at the end of the verb phrase; perfect and continuous auxiliary verbs come first

- passive: The book had already been written before we met.
