- Dear Director,
- Enclosed are transcripts of the tapes recovered from the impact site outlined in the previous letter. We are endeavoring to recover more, but for now these transcripts give us critical insight into the first incursion and what to expect in the coming weeks. Dr. Kellerman has been cooperative, and it is of my personal opinion that he should be brought aboard the project. His expertise would prove invaluable to us.
- - Ashworth
- --------------------
- SPEAKER: Ramsey Bierce
- LABEL: Arrival
- "Dr. Kellerman, the Bastion is real! We've done it, we've managed to replicate the angle!"
- [Splashing of water can be heard.]
- Funny thing, though. I hadn't really thought about what I'd do once I got here. Failure always seemed like a foregone conclusion after all the previous attempts. But here I am, Simmons is gone, and so is the plane. How the hell am I going to get myself out of here?"
- ---------------------
- SPEAKER: Walter Kellerman
- LABEL: Arrival (Supplemental)
- "Part of me was furious with Dr. Kellerman. Part of me still is. We've theorized that the Bastion doesn't exists anywhere. At least not in the traditional sense. This had to prove it, right? So why not let me know? Why, after all these years does he go it alone?"
- ---------------------
- SPEAKER: Ramsey Bierce
- LABEL: Wreckage
- "This whole place is littered with aircraft wreckage. Some of the models leads me to believe that my speculation on the nature of certain high profile accidents or disappearances was correct after all. We've theorized that the Bastion doesn't exists anywhere, at least not in the traditional sense. This has to prove it, right? How else could this be here?"
- -----------------------
- SPEAKER: Walter Kellerman
- LABEL: Wreckage (Supplemental)
- "This entry in particular has some startling implications. This certainly extends far beyond what we know about Kadnikov and the events in Russia.
- -----------------------
- SPEAKER: Ramsey Bierce
- LABEL: Beacon
- "Staying here isn't an option, I'm courting hypothermia and the supplies I've raided won't be enough. There's some kind of beacon in the distance. Seems like a good place to start. Maybe I'll meet up with Simmons. Or maybe even a resident of the Bastion. Someone has to be tending to that light."
- ----------------------
- SPEAKER: Walter Kellerman
- LABEL: Beacon (Supplemental)
- "This beacon is of particular interest to me. It's undoubtedly a key element to solving the puzzle, but Dr. Bierce relays precious little information on it.
- ----------------------
- SPEAKER: Ramsey Bierce
- LABEL: Tunnels 1
- "I've been wandering these passages for days. There's a very real possibility that after all this I'll just die of dehydration in these god damned passages and nobody will recover my findings. I'm trying to stay calm, but god damn it."
- ----------------------
- SPEAKER: Ramsey Bierce
- LABEL: Tunnels 2
- "Is this one giant sewer system? It must be. But it's so big. How large is the Bastion, really?"
- ----------------------
- SPEAKER: Ramsey Bierce
- LABEL: Encounter 1
- "I've suspected that I'm not alone. But now I know for certain that there is something else in these tunnels with me. I'm starting to wish that I had taken that gun, after all."
- ---------------------
- SPEAKER: Walter Kellerman
- LABEL: Encounter 1 (Supplemental)
- "If he had known the truth, I wonder how he would have reacted? Ignorance must be bliss in a case like this."
- ---------------------
- SPEAKER: Ramsey Bierce
- LABEL: Simmons
- "Simmons is dead. I found him and the plane...fused into the tunnel. I know I should care more that he's gone, but this means I have to backtrack for at least half a day."
- ---------------------
- SPEAKER: Walter Kellerman
- LABEL: Simmons (Supplemental)
- "Involving an outsider is the one thing that I cannot forgive from Dr. Bierce. Simmons knew nothing of our work and shouldn't have been involved. His blood is on Dr. Bierce's hands.
- ---------------------
- SPEAKER: Ramsey Bierce
- LABEL: Simmons
- "Thank god, I must be close. I can hear people talking when I listen closely to the vents. I'm going to attempt to open this vent.
- [Groaning of metal can be heard, followed by a loud crash.]
- Alright, I've done it. Time for the moment of truth. First contact.
- ------------
- This is the last tape recovered from the impact site. While the ultimate fate of Dr. Bierce is unknown, the fact that these tapes were recovered at all suggests that he lived past the recording date of the last tape. This also proves that it is possible for something to leave the Bastion, which has dire implications and moves our timetable forward. Simply sitting back and collecting data will only prove prudent in the short term. Replicating Bierce and Kellerman's experiment and sending assets into Bastion is the next logical course of action.
