  17. With the testing (and possible removal of) sleep clause, Amoonguss has seen a huge raise in popularity thanks to a combination of its ability to use the powerful supporting moves Rage Powder and Spore, and solid Defensive stats. Not to mention its typing Grass/Poison which is strong defensively. Regenerator is undoubtedly the best ability for Amoonguss, allowing it to perform its role as a bulky supporter longer, and therefore more effectively.
  18.
  19. The EV spread for Amoonguss is to give a fairly even split between Def and Sp.Def after putting maximum investment into HP. The Special Defense investment will allow Amoonguss to survive a Psyshock from Life Orb Latios with a Timid Nature, with the absolute minimum in speed (0 IVs and a -speed nature) for performing in Trick Room.
  20.
  21. Rage Powder and Spore are what make Amoonguss such a threat: Ragepowder is a +2 priority move that redirects your opponents attacks to hit Amoonguss, allowing it's teammate to hit the opponent with more damage, a knock out, or an opportunity to boost its stats. Spore is a 100% accurate sleep move, and with sleep clause being tested at the moment (and possibly lifted), if your opponent doesn't have an answer for Amoonguss they will be forced to wait 1-3 sleep turns before they can move. Giga Drain is Amoonguss's main STAB move, and although some people forgo Giga Drain in favour of Sludge Bomb, most grass types in the current metagame are neutral to Sludge Bomb (Venusaur, Trevenant, Gourgeist, and other Amoonguss) so Giga Drain is the best choice. Protect is important on Amoonguss, not only giving Amoonguss more longevity but also allowing it to "burn" Fake Out (+3 priority) and proceed to Rage Powder safely the next turn.
  22.
  23. The best item for Amoonguss to use is Sitrus Berry, although some people prefer to use Black Sludge as a more reliable means of recovery. However, Regenerator is certainly reliable and provides plenty of recovery so I've gone with Sitrus.
  24.
  25. Teammates for this set include anything to deal with Mega Charizard Y and Talonflame, both of which LOVE to come in on Amoonguss and OHKO it. Tyranitar, Terrakion, Zygarde, and Politoed all check the 2 Fire/Flying types. Politoed and Tyranitar in particular are useful against Mega Charizard Y, bringing opposing weather and forcing it to switch out. Rain from Politoed also reduces Fire damage to Amoonguss. Amoonguss fits well onto Trick Room teams, often being the slowest Pokemon on the field, and can therefore fire off a Spore before your opponent has a chance to attack. Finally, Pokemon that use setup moves love pairing with Amoonguss and getting a free boost thanks to ragepowder. Examples include Power-Up Punch Mega Kangaskhan, Swords Dance [Mega] Scizor, and Belly-Drum Azumarill.

  29. Grass types are immune to both Spore and Ragepowder and Amoonguss cannot touch them offensively (given that we've chosen Giga Drain over Sludge Bomb). Common Fire types that outspeed (lol) and OHKO Amoonguss like Talonflame, Mega Charizard Y, and Eruptran are massive threats. Powerful Ice and Psychic types, while not as common, are also major threats. Cloyster, Mamoswine, and [Mega] Gardevoir all threaten the mushroom, although the first 2 must beware of Giga Drain damage. Amoonguss also needs to beware of Landorus-T, who packs the spread moves Rock Slide annd Earthquake, which are unaffected by Rage Powder (although this is more a threat to your teammate than Amoonguss) and U-Turn which hits Amoonguss super effectively. Ludicolo cannot be touched by Amoonguss, and can hit back with Ice Beam.
