- Miranda was born to a small tribe in the Abbi Hills. While her mother was a tribeswoman, her father had apparently been a foreigner who traveled with the tribe for a short period and left before she was born. Miranda was an easily recognizable sight in the tribe due to the blonde hair she had inherited from her father.
- One day on their travels they found a destroyed wagon containing some light magic tomes. The tribe itself lacked magic users, instead relying on herbal medicines for healing and bows if ranged combat was necessary, so they had no use for them. However, upon picking up some of the tomes Miranda found herself demonstrating an aptitude for them, and resolved to teaching herself their secrets.
- Since Miranda had never seen a magic user in her life before, she took an unconventional route for spellcasting, preferring to simultaneously strike with her limbs while firing off her spells, integrating it into a style of unarmed combat that had been passed down within the tribe for generations. Having been self taught, her approach lacked control, which combined with her bizarre style meant that when casting from afar her spells had an unfortunate tendency to veer off uncontrollably.
- She never really fit in among the tribe due to her heritage, along with a preference to honing her fighting style over working with horses, and so eventually Miranda left her tribe and became a mercenary. Upon encountering other magic users in her travels Miranda was left bewildered at the discovery that to the outside world her method of spellcasting was considered unusual, almost suicidal, and according to some slightly heretical.
- Over the next couple years she made her way across the continent, taking up various jobs along the way. Due to the demands of her lifestyle, she stopped riding since it only made her aim worse than it already was, and you can't punch someone while sitting on a horse. Eventually she arrived at Zorestra, at just the right time when they were looking for mercenaries to hire for the prince's journey, and managed to impress the recruiters with her unorthodox skills.
