  1. I have some suggestions for SFU lecture recordings.
  2.
  3. 1) Would it be possible for the lecture recording / IT services staff to clean the recordings to remove the silence in the recordings and to EQ/increase/level the volume.. For example when the professor ends the class early or takes a break in the middle of the lecture. A volunteer program is also possible and I'm sure there will be people willing to help out.
  4.
  5. 2) Make Lecture recordings permanent/last longer than a semester. This gives SFU students the opportunity to search up previous recordings for classes in case the recording for their class didn't work this semester. This also gives students who are looking to explore different disciplines and faculties without spending thousands of dollars, the ability to browse through a large collection of recordings and to either give themselves a larger breadth of learning or possibly switch into a different department that they are more interested in.
  6.
  7. 3) Make these recordings open to the public. Ideally I would like to see SFU follow in the footsteps of the UC Berkeley webcast. We have excellent recordings in a variety of disciplines that are not provided by other institutions. For example we have Canadian focused content, criminology, and a lot of upper division recordings in psychology and communications. We would be providing education, and knowledge that UC Berkeley and other institutions are not providing online. High school students would also get a good preview of university education by listening to these recordings. They could also better pick which faculty they wan't to enroll in.

  9. There is no reason that SFU shouldn't follow in the footsteps of UC Berkeley. There are costs to making this happen but I believe the benefits far outweigh any negative outcomes.
