  1. Well, the beauty of Overwatch is that all heroes can potentially pull their weight, no matter how bad. And saying that both Mei and Zenyatta saw limelight in the competitive scene before getting nerfed is quite big. However, said nerfs were big enough to knock them out of the competitive scene almost entirely.

  3. Mei: While I don't have any personal experience with Mei, her kit just doesn't seem to synergize with itself. The reason she was used in competitive was to counter the popular Orbital Destruction offense (double Zen/tracer/genji/symmetra/lucio), and since her Alt-Fire got several weeks of straight buffs. But Orbital Destruction got annihilated with the Zen nerfs, and Mei got nerfs back to her Alt-Fire, so she's back to not being that good. She's supposed to be a defensive hero, but she only has 250 health. Her health recovery leaves her wide open for punishment, and usually results in a quick death afterwards. And since her slowing capabilities require close-range, she needs to get in there, with 250 HP and a less-than-stellar DPS, in order for it to work, and puts her in a position to more likely get wrecked after her heal (and a greater chance to need said heal). Her wall can be cool but it doesn't last for very long, only really good in confirming your team can move into a given area, and her ultimate is great but extremely predictable
