- I picked this tablet up just wanting something to act as a cheap E-reader/Cbr Viewer and to watch the occasional video on when the TV is otherwise engaged and do a bit of browsing.
- The stock firmware is your typical half Chinese junk with a multitude of wierd apps no one would want and random bits of Engrish everywhere. Thankfully there is a Tabtronics website that holds updated firwares for the device, I updated to 1.5.1 (The most recent as of now) which took about 5 minutes, upon powering the tablet back on it was much improved, I beleive GoClickIt are starting to ship these devices with the newer firmware, if not its a simple job to update it.
- The tablet itself looks identical to an iPad, only smaller, the Power and Menu buttons on the edge are a little "cheap" and "clicky" but to be fair you won't use them much (theres an onscreen menu button anyways). Connectivity wise the tablet has a headphone jack and a charger jack (almost identical, so do be careful!) sadly the charger is an unusual connection so don't lose the mains adaptor!. Aside from the micro-SD slot all other connectivity is done via a replica of an iPod/iPad/iPhone connector, thankfully a USB > iConnector cable is included for copyind files across from a PC as is a dongle allowing you to insert USB devices and Ethernet cables into that slot.
- The wireless works spot on and seems to pick up signals well, battery life seems to give me about 2-4 hours depending on if Wi-Fi is enabled and how much I'm using it.
- With regards to software the updated firmware has a fully working Android Market (the proper official one, although some 3rd part markets are also instaleld) however certain apps do not show up as the Market *thinks* they are incompatable with the tablet, sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't depending on how techy you are you can get round this (For example the Twitter, G+, ES File Manager and TVGuide.co.uk apps show as incompatible however if you get hold of the .apk files and install them manually they work fine, whereas several games don't). If you're not confident on doing this, they Twitter, G+ and such all work fine through the browser.
- Performance wise its reasonably responsive, heck even the iPlayer website works albeit a bit slowly (the app doesn't work even if you forcibly install it as mentioned above), Web browsing is fast and responsive and Angry Birds (which is pre-installed and has the backgrounds disabled) works at a decent speed, however the other Angry Birds titles won't work as you can't turn the backgrounds off.
- Basically for a bit of Web Browsing, Book Reading and watching some videos this device is well worth the money, if you're massively into gaming then understandably for the price you are out of luck. If you're feeling extra techy you can play around with updating the firmware yourself past what is available on the Tabtronics site; as far as I can tell their recommended firmware is a slightly Tweaked Modroid v7, if you Google that you'll find further versions but your mileage may vary around how well they work, personally I'd stick with the Tabtronics recommended versions.
- One word of warning, while the device does ship with a stylus I wouldn't recommend using it as it seems rather sharp and has put scratches in my screen, fingers do fine!
- (For info I'm using Aldiko as my E-reader and Perfect Viewer as my CBR reader on this device)
