  1. Mason stared at the black instrument with an unreadable expression. His brown eyes looked at the grand piano intensely. Finally, as if breaking through an invisible wall, the boy rushed to pull out the stool. Trying to keep posture he sat and remained in the same position for a few moments. In a swift movement, his arms rose from his sides and hovered over the keys. In a soft tone he started playing.
  2.
  3. What erupted from the interaction was a calm song, almost like a ballad. Every key was hit perfectly as Mason ran through the sheet music in his head closing his eyes. After a certain note was hit, Mason started humming along to the repeating melody. Unable to hold back anymore, the lyrics escaped his lips with ease.
  4.
  5. The soft singing matched the delicacy of the piano.
  6.
  7. Things have never been the same,
  8.
  9. Not after you left me,
  10.
  11. Thought I'd never recover,
  12.
  13. After I saw you leave,
  14.
  15. You didn't even face me,
  16.
  17. The boy got enveloped in the music, lost in a trance of singing and playing. With closed eyes, he was unable to realize he attracted the attention of another student.
  18.
  19. Another male student a grade older stood in the doorway silent, watching and listening intently to the piano mixed with singing. With wide amazed eyes.
  20.
  21. That look in your eyes,
  22.
  23. You didn't even say goodbye,
  24.
  25. How could I have ran after,
  26.
  27. Something I would lose.
  28.
  29. Accidentally Paxton fell from the trance Mason’s playing had left him in. His body thudded to the ground causing Mason to jolt up and hit a wrong key.
  30.
  31. “U-uh how lon-long have you been there?”
  32.
  33. Paxton didn't respond, he stared at Mason curious as to how such an average person could have such talent.
  34.
  35. “I-I’m sorry...I know I'm not supposed to be in here, but please don't tell anyone!”, Mason pleaded.
  36.
  37. Paxton dumbfounded responded with another question, “That, that song you were playing...what was that?”
  38.
  39. The question confused Mason, “T-That was a song I wrote. It's still a work in progress.”
  40.
  41. Now it was Paxton's turn to be confused. The song had the quality of something produced by someone of the likes of Beethoven.
  42. “Play it again.”
  43.
  44. Mason blushed. The fact that Paxton was the first to hear him play or sing made him twitch with unease.
  45.
  46. Mason unwillingly started once again, but almost every other note was a mistake. The idea of Paxton listening made his hands shake.
  47. After a couple more missed notes, Mason just stopped all together.
  48.
  49. “I need to go.”
  50.
  51. Paxton watched as Mason left hugging his supplies to his chest with a tense form. Something was bugging Mason, something that peaked the curiosity of Paxton. Whatever made little Mason so uneasy, Paxton was more than ready to find out.
