[2016-12-07 13:45:46] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mitzi sees a shift, a trick of light and shadow, as Snowhare touches Get_Lost; Then she sees Snowhare's corpse collapse, drained of life and color, looking withered. Packed in the room so tightly, Mitzi herself is brushing Get_Lost's tail. There is another odd flicker of darkness, like Get_Lost's shadow is moving independently of the cybermare...
  4. [2016-12-07 13:45:58] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Then Mitzi feels an unusual weakness, her body seeming to age several years in an instant, her own consciousness fading rapidly...
  5. [2016-12-07 13:46:10] <Mare-Do-Well> 3CopyCat gasps, leaping over bunks to join Get_Lost beside the corpse with surprising agility... only to find Get_Lost already collapsing. "Get!" Copy yells as she lands (probably half-on a bunk)
  6. [2016-12-07 13:46:22] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mitzi grunts and stumbles forward. She digs in her claws to prop herself up. She growls angrily. "Sh-shadows!"

Shatara sees Mitzi's shadow shift against the light, overlapping with Jugeote's, the zebra having been brushing against Mitzi when the klazons went off. Now she steps back, stunned, as the hellhound falls to the floor and cannot get up.

  9. [2016-12-07 13:48:23] <Mare-Do-Well> 3CopyCat hasn't noticed anything about the shadows, her attention is focused on her fallen friend and on the enclave mare's corpse. Mitzi collapsing now behind her in the room leaves her with no more time to worry, all she can try to do is react.
  10. [2016-12-07 13:48:39] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Get_Lost's coughed warning gives her a moment's pause, so instead she focuses on the ex-pegasus. As... as she should have been from the start. There wasn't even the possibility of hope for the mare if CopyCat delays.

  20. [2016-12-07 13:52:44] <Mare-Do-Well> 3CopyCat falls to her knees, the mare's body seeming to drain her magic far more quickly and more intensely than she'd prepared for. Regardless, CopyCat grits her teeth and pours more of her energy into Snowhare. More of her will, more of her hope, more of herself. The ordeal leaves her weak and panting, but her heart soars when it seems like it works.
  21. [2016-12-07 13:53:26] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Mitzi looks at CopyCat with a fair amount of awe in spite of her weakness. The ability to save lives like that was one of the things she admired most about ponies, as it was the reason she and her siblings were still alive.
  22. [2016-12-07 13:53:42] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Snowhare's color returns. Her breathing normalizes. Her body repairs, going from a withered husk to a weathered and malnurished but very alive pegasus. Snowhare moans in her unconsciousness.

She had no words to describe the depths of her disgust for the ghoul at the moment, and the arrival of Major Fog Bank and Effigy at least gives her something else to focus on. "We believe this to be a form of megaspell affected zebras. Created when the Celestia One fired upon the zebras'

Y' might want t' go ahead and find a hidey hole and a mental surgeon on standby t' go and get this memory outta yer' head, too."
  30. [2016-12-07 14:32:49] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Cottonseed rolls her eyes. "At some future point, I may very happily dispose of my memories of you. But not any time in the immediate future. We have a job to do, and the mission comes first. You don't let personal comfort compromise a mission."

Golden_Dream's message snaps her back to reality. [They hide in our shadows!] CopyCat warns everyone who could hear it. [They drain the life and magic from their host before jumping, able to knock them down or even turn them to ash!]

  41. [2016-12-07 15:01:50] * Noble_Heart scowls heavily. "We live in the shadow of an era of conflict."
  42. [2016-12-07 15:01:57] <Mare-Do-Well> 3The Major rallies his soldiers and leads them outside to face whatever just attacked, while leaving Effigy behind with Noble_Heart and Golden_Dream, and just two armor-clad pegasi to escort Cottonseed and her griffin companions.
  43. [2016-12-07 15:02:25] * CopyCat continues. [It attacked the witness mare we where looking for, and Get_Lost and Mitzi. I don't know where it's gone now...] CopyCat then notices Shatara, and how was looking at Jugeote's shadow with his shotgun /Blood/ drawn and smoking. She'd been so occupied she hadn't noticed him fire, but shot marks mar the floor where the zebra's shadow rests. [I-it's in Jugeote's shadow!]

  45. [2016-12-07 15:05:30] * Golden_Dream hisses as she breathes through her teeth. [Where are you, Copycat?]
  46. [2016-12-07 15:10:07] * CopyCat is already hurriedly checking Get_Lost and Mitzi over as she tries to mentally reply to Golden_Dream and Noble_Heart. [We're in the Civilian Barracks room something-or-other, err...] she concentrates a moment, then sends Golden_Dream and Noble_Heart the exact location.
  47. [2016-12-07 15:10:31] * Mitzi groans and stands up slowly. "Ow..."
  48. [2016-12-07 15:15:23] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote looks to Shatara with a panicked expression. In griffin, she pleads, "Wh-what do I do?"
  49. [2016-12-07 15:18:14] * Golden_Dream clops her hooves together and immediately rallies everyone left. Including the coward. "Alright, so. Intel came in, apparently there's a monster that lives in pony's shadows and kills them through their shadows in the civilian barracks in block 16. What do we got to kill a shadow?"
  50. [2016-12-07 15:19:23] * Noble_Heart contemplates that briefly. "Magic? Otherwise We are uncertain. We have never had to fight shadows before."
  51. [2016-12-07 15:22:32] * Shatara meets Jugeote's gaze, tears welling in his eyes. "I...I don't know..." Well, he did have one idea...
  52. [2016-12-07 15:23:59] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote puts on a brave face. She's a fearsome zebra pirate, after all. Not some filly worried about the shadows under the bed. But in the language only she and Shatara share, she admits, "I'm scared."
  53. [2016-12-07 15:25:47] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Then the zebra's brow furrows, her expression hardening. "I've faced death before. Many times. Not without a way to fight it... but still, I'm made of stronger stuff than this. I.. I think /it's/ scared."
  54. [2016-12-07 15:27:38] * Mitzi raises an eyebrow as she wobbles a bit. "Why wud eet be scared? Dat gun deedn't hurt eet, und eet can kill wit toucheen."
  55. [2016-12-07 15:30:25] * Shatara helpfully relays Jugeote's sentiment with a shaky voice. "Maybe...may'be that's why it's killing..."
  56. [2016-12-07 15:30:44] * Noble_Heart moved down the corridors with all due haste, which is to say, a lot of haste considering her friends are currently under attack by a hostile creature capable of reducing normal ponies to ash. "We had best hurry. Whatever it is, it is definitely very dangerous."
  57. [2016-12-07 15:34:19] * Bookwright sighs. "Okay, so... how do we talk to it? And get it to stop killing, accidentally or otherwise?"
  58. [2016-12-07 15:36:25] * CopyCat is relieved to find Mitzi tired but fairly unharmed, the hardy hellhound already getting back on her paws. Get_Lost seems worse off, and CopyCat gently floats her onto one of the empty beds around them. "I-it's scared? Perhaps we should welcome it to the club."
  59. [2016-12-07 15:42:59] * Mitzi considers that for a moment, then raises a paw out away form her body.
  60. [2016-12-07 15:43:39] * Golden_Dream continues. "Shadow creature /may not be hostile/. Keep this in mind. The ideology in play in this scenario is- Speak softly, carry a big stick."
  61. [2016-12-07 15:44:43] * Noble_Heart frowns. "It has killed at least two pegasi, has it not? Whether it is hostile or not deliberately, it is certainly dangerous." She furrows her brow, contemplating something as they moved.
  62. [2016-12-07 15:48:11] * Golden_Dream gives Noble a glare. "We understand a situation before me move t' eliminate somethin'. A kill's somethin' that can't be taken back." She certainly wasn't coping a look at Cottonseed. No sirree.
  63. [2016-12-07 15:56:14] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Cottonseed was either oblivious to the look that Golden_Dream was totally not coping, or she was supremely good at feigning so.
  64. [2016-12-07 15:57:34] * Noble_Heart nods her head. "We agree. That does not mean, however, that we should do nothing."
  65. [2016-12-07 16:04:47] * Mitzi points at Jugote's shadow with one of her claws.
  66. [2016-12-07 16:06:22] * Bookwright watches Mitzi's actions with intense scrutiny. "Shadow puppertry? Yeah, better than what I was thinking of."
  67. [2016-12-07 16:07:10] * CopyCat can't help but smirk, despite the situation.
  68. [2016-12-07 16:07:14] <Mare-Do-Well> 3It does not take too long for Noble_Heart and Golden_Dream to reach the others. By then, Parley and Pink-E are there, and Parley is at work rebooting Get_Lost. But it is taking longer than expected. Her cybernetics were completely drained of power.
  69. [2016-12-07 16:07:14] * Mitzi blinks, then looks at her shadow. "Huh. Uh didn't tink uv dat. Uh just wanted tu see eef eet wuz scared uv ur claws. Dey can cut thru magic shields."
  70. [2016-12-07 16:13:03] * Golden_Dream gets inside, and very, very carefully makes sure her shadow never interacts with Jugeote's. "Alright, alright. Does anyone write in zebra?"
  71. [2016-12-07 16:14:40] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote offers to Shatara, "Maybe I should be isolated?"
  72. [2016-12-07 16:19:25] * Noble_Heart apporaches the barracks, staying outside to keep it from being too much more cramped. "We do not. Parley can translate, but We are uncertain she has writing implements." She frowned at the prospect.
  73. [2016-12-07 16:22:54] * Shatara fidgets a little. "I think the others want to try to talk to it..." he conveys in Gryphon.
  74. [2016-12-07 16:23:58] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote looks at Get_Lost, then at Snowhare. To Shatara, she asks, "How long can it stay in my shadow before it will kill me if it leaves?"
  75. [2016-12-07 16:33:24] <Shatara> "I...I don't know..."
  76. [2016-12-07 16:40:51] * Bookwright "It could be a while or it could be no time at all. The mystery mare lasted a couple hours, Snowhare was gotten within minutes."
  77. [2016-12-07 16:42:15] * Golden_Dream stares at the shadow. And then tries shadow puppetry. Hey, might as well. Nothing else seems to work. She makes her hooves do a little flappy jaw movement with her shadow, and then uses her neckerchief to try to make a question mark.

  79. [2016-12-07 16:45:45] * Golden_Dream looks up at Jugeote. "Well, fuck. It ain't speaking. Don't suppose it's talkin' to y'?"

  81. [2016-12-07 16:50:02] * Bookwright frowns. "Longer is probably worse though. The mystery mare was completely disintegrated after a few hours. Snowhare died too, but she didn't turn into dust. Get Lost probably would have died as well except for her modifications. But none of them came to any harm until the shadow moved."
  82. [2016-12-07 16:50:29] * Golden_Dream feels silly. "Shatara, can y' ask her if th' shadowthing is speakin' to her or anythin'?"

  84. [2016-12-07 17:00:38] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Jugeote shakes her head. "Nothing like that. It's not communicating with me. I can't even tell it's there. But... the way I feel... doesn't feel like I am used to. It's like the thing's own emotions are staining mine."
