Deep in the underwater trenches, where the sun and moon cannot reach, the only sources of light are jellies and anglerfish, long-forgotten magic and brand-new headlamps, and stardust and stars that have not yet been born.

This is the Nebulous Sea, a warm-water pocket in a frigid ocean, both more vast than it should be and barely wide enough to enter. The gleaming sands and glowing waters are beautiful, but even the outskirts are extremely deadly - hot and radioactive, growing hotter every day. Even if a diver is equipped to handle this, the wildlife - both local sea creatures, and aliens slowly encroaching on the area - are vicious, brutal, and an even match for skilled fighters.

The core will form a star someday, and someday soon. With the Nebulous Sea as dangerous as it is now, and only getting worse, one doesn’t dare imagine what it could do to the rest of the world as soon as that happens, to say nothing of the danger of it growing large enough to engulf the planet…

Unlock the true power of the Soggy Shield of Frightening: The enchantments and physical integrity alike melted away the last time it was exposed to the magical light of the Unborn Star; now the shield can barely hold together, orichalcum constantly dripping from it yet cool to the touch. Until its solidity and aura of power return, the dangers of the deeps are too much to think about, let alone triumph over.
Gather the shards of the Shivering Mirror: To truly destroy the Star once and for all, its own magic must be turned upon it - but only one tool can do this properly, without merely making the core even stronger. Seek to fix the mirror, shattered in the last attempt to calm the fires, and pray that you have what it takes to hold it steady.
Dive to the depths of the Nebulous Sea and deactivate the Unborn Star: Shield and mirror will protect you from the rays and most of the beasts of the trenches, but some are too fearless or foolish; if you cannot slay those that would attack you, all will be for naught. Weather the intense heat of the core, even as it melts your shield once again, and you may be able to destroy it for good.
