- Order of Adjectives - When we have multiple adjective modifiers in a noun phrase, there is a typical order they go in:
- Opinion
- Size
- Age/Condition
- Shape
- Color
- Origin
- Material
- After all the adjectives, we put noun modifiers for compound nouns.
- “breakfast table” - a table usually used for breakfast
- “English learner” - a learner (student) of English
- “learner English” - the English that learners speak (including their typical errors)
- “mailbox key box” - a box for keys for mailboxes (a mailbox is a box for mail)
- “motor oil” - oil for motors
- “baby oil” - oil for babies
- “olive oil” - oil made from olives
