  1. Elizabeth stared at Bookers chest, his shirt torn opem to reveal a bloody wound slightly left of the breastbone. The blood flowed freely and stained his chest red. Booker DeWitt was a tough man, but this was a fatal wound by any metric.
  2.
  3. And yet, here he was. Slumped up against the wall of Rock's office. His eyes radiated white light and pale essence danced from the wound in his chest in smokey tendrils. His voice, a hollow echo that seemed to come from every direction at once, called out to her.
  4.
  5. "Elizabeth? Elizabeth!" He wailed in confusion.
  6.
  7. "I'm here Booker, I'm here." She said as she gently guided him to a sitting position on the floor, legs splayed and head lolling slightly.
  8.
  9. She had always feared this ever since she, what? Revived him? Made him? She had long ago settled the matter in her head, but seeing him in this state still unsettled her. He had all of her love, all of her memories, everything that made him Booker. He was nothing like the Siren. He was Booker, but now he was coming apart at the seams.
  10.
  11. The Luteces had been insistent on the fact that keeping his memories intact was essential to keeping him stable. She had even tried to restore them at one point herself, but when she saw how he was living and saw that he didn't seem to want or need to remember at all, she just couldn't bring herself to do it. But now she was reaping the rewards, his fatal wound reminded him of his true state. A bullet grazing a rib is easy enough for the mind to reconcile, but this was too much. His mind won't accept the truth of his body. There was only one solution.
  12.
  13. Security had been mercifully slipshod in their duties, but she couldn't count on that for much longer. She had to hurry. Rummaging through Bookers nightstand Elizabeth found a gene tonic phial. She had made sure to keep this close to him if it ever came to it, and now she was glad she did.
  14.
  15. Elizabeth ran her fingers through Booker's hair. "Booker, I'm so damn sorry. Please look at me."
  16.
  17. She brought the tonic to his lips and watched intently as he drank it's contents.
  18.
  19. "Remember."
