  1. Cold's Tulpa Creation Guide

  3.
  4.
  5.
  6. Introduction
  7.
  8. You're probably here because you want to make a tulpa. I'm assuming that you already know what a tulpa is if you're reading this, but I'll define it for people who still don't quite understand. A tulpa is basically an imaginary friend that is able to communicate with you and has its own opinions, personality, and preferences. With time, you'll be able to impose (hallucinate) your tulpa, which means you'll be able to see, hear, smell, etc. the tulpa as well as you would anyone else.
  9.
  10. There are a lot of good reasons to make a tulpa. Some people want some sort of second opinion on things, sometimes from a different perspective. You might be interested in a lifelong bond in which someone (your tulpa) will be able to understand you like no other could. You might want to see what tulpas are capable of - some people have reported that their tulpas are able to block pain, change your perception of time, and help you enter a lucid dream. Others just make tulpas because they're curious, and there's nothing particularly wrong with that. This is all still being researched, and there are many things to discover, so I'm sure there are more benefits than what I listed.
  11.
  12. This isn't necessarily an easy task. Tulpa creation could take weeks to months on average, but it's different for everyone. Regardless of how much practice you've had with character creation, visualization, and daydreaming, you're still going to have to put in a considerable amount of work. One of the most important things to note here is that you probably shouldn't relate others' progress to your own. Sure, you can read up and see certain things that other people did during their sessions, but everyone's creation time varies, so don't feel discouraged if they are/were making progress faster than you.
  13.
  14.

  16.
  17. Introductory Session
  18.
  19. The step is optional, so feel free to skip past this session if you want to jump straight into the meat of the process. This is where you basically take the time to do a special session in which you introduce yourself to your tulpa, telling it your name, hobbies, likes/dislikes, etc. When I did this stage, I told the tulpa about the creation process (explaining it) and what I hoped to accomplish in the future. You'll probably be doing this while you're narrating, anyway, but like I said, this is supposed to be something of a special session.
  20.
  21. ---
  22.
  23. Narration
  24.
  25. Narration is where you talk to your tulpa, and a good number of people consider this to be the most important step in tulpa creation. You can start doing this at any time in the process, but I would recommend starting as soon as you can. You can either narrate in your head (mind voice) or out loud, whichever works for you. You can talk about anything - what you did at work/school, the plot of a movie, how much you hate traffic, how the man sitting next to you on the bus started to rub your leg, etc. It doesn't matter if the topic isn't rainbows and butterflies, or if you think that you're just rambling on about nothing important. Quantity > quality when it comes to this. You can even read to your tulpa if you want, but remember to direct thoughts /to/ the tulpa.
  26.
  27. You should try to narrate at all times of the day. There's absolutely no point in just doing straight up narration sessions in my opinion, and doing that defeats the purpose of it. You're essentially trying to give the tulpa attention at all times, not just a set time. If you find that you can't remember to narrate, there are a lot of things you can do to remind yourself to do it. You could tie a piece of string around your finger, wear a necklace, set a picture of your tulpa's form as your phone/computer's wallpaper, just something that you would fiddle with or check often.
  28.
  29. After a while, you're going to get some sort of response. Most of the time it's some type of emotional response or an "alien feeling", like a slight pressure on your head. Eventually, your tulpa will begin to speak to you. It'll be in the same way that you hear your own mind voice, and there's a good chance that it'll be the same one as yours at first. It'll eventually change, so don't worry too much about that. Once your tulpa is able to talk, you're all set.
  30.
  31. ---
  32.
  33. Personality
  34.
  35. A lot of people say that this step is now pointless, and that you should just let your tulpa's personality develop on its own. Some people, however, still think that this is the "sentience building" step, so I'll provide some information on it.
  36.
  37. The first thing you'll want to do is make a list of traits for your tulpa. There are many websites that have lists of positive, neutral, and negative traits. Do as many traits as you want. I'd say at least 5 and at the most 20, but you can go higher if you'd like. You can start to work on all of the traits when you're done picking them, obviously. You can either narrate the traits to your tulpa or do some symbolic visualization for it.
  38.
  39. Personality narration is what it sounds like. You define the trait, talk about how it will affect your tulpa's likes/dislikes, how it will affect your tulpa's hobbies, and maybe even give an example where the trait is expressed. FAQ_man's trait template gave me a lot of ideas of what to talk about during this, so I'll link it at the bottom of the guide.
  40.
  41. Symbolic visualization is doing something symbolic that registers with you. Make a cauldron and pour the personality traits into it, fuse the traits as orbs into a larger orb or your tulpa's form, etc.
  42.
  43. You can stop working on a trait when you feel like you're done with it. There's no point in rushing a trait and there's no point in going over one for hours on end. Just stop when you feel like there's nothing else to cover. Some people say that you have to do likes and dislikes, but I think that's just a waste of time, as that will form with the personality.
  44.
  45. ---
  46.
  47. Visualization
  48.
  49. Visualization is where you get to visualize your tulpa. I know, right? Many people hate this step because it is tiring, but it is still very important. You'll still have to do this even if you're skipping personality. Even if you're great with visualization, it's still good to do some practice with this just for the hell of it. It won't (or shouldn't) hurt you to do a little bit of work.
  50.
  51. The first thing you'll have to do is come up with a form for your tulpa. It should probably be something that you'd want around for the rest of your life, so choose wisely.
  52.
  53. The next thing to do is to (you guessed it) visualize your tulpa. You can either do this in a "wonderland", which is basically an environment you create in your head. If you can't come up with ideas for a wonderland and you're not all that creative, just use something like your room instead of a fantasy setting. Some people have trouble visualizing their tulpa in a wonderland because they focus too much on the wonderland and not on the tulpa. Just visualize the tulpa in a black void if that happens. Trust me, it's a lot easier to do that.
  54.
  55. You focus on your tulpa until it's perfect. You can either focus on certain parts of the body or just the whole form at once, whatever helps more. You don't have to visualize your tulpa naked like some of the older guides have said. I visualized my tulpa with clothes and she's able to change them with ease, so don't worry about that. If you find that you lose focus and think about other things while you're visualizing, just try and pull yourself back into it. Rinse and repeat. Do this until you're able to recall your tulpa's form with ease, and you should probably still do a few sessions after this just for good measure. Again, it won't hurt you to do a little bit of work.
  56.
  57. Note that some people have had problems when it comes to picking a form of an existing character. I've only identity crisis problems when the host doesn't tell the tulpa that they're their own person and they don't have to act like the character, so nothing bad should happen if you don't try to force things on the tulpa.
  58.
  59. ---
  60.
  61. Imposition
  62.
  63. This is the long term goal for many people who decide to make a tulpa. It is one of hardest and most time-consuming steps in this whole process. Imposition completion times are different for everyone, just like everything else in this damn process, but it'll probably be easier if you've imagined characters around you before and if you're able to imagine your tulpa's form with no problems. I would not suggest starting this until you're able to recall your tulpa's form perfectly. Your tulpa can change forms after it's imposed, so don't be worried about anything like that.
  64.
  65. I did a lot when it came to imposition. I put a chair in the center of my room and I visualized my tulpa sitting in it. I walked around the chair, seeing my tulpa at different angles. I felt my tulpa up, touching everything. Yes, you have to touch everything. Aren't you excited? You should be, because this is some high quality action right here. You can pick a scent for a tulpa and sniff that tulpa up, too. You can do the same thing for taste, but I doubt you'll be tasting your tulpa 24/7 (I think), so that might not be necessary.
  66.
  67. You can visualize your tulpa around you while you're doing other things, too, but I rarely did this.
  68.
  69. For auditory imposition (hearing the tulpa), I listened to pink noise a lot. After a shit ton of pink noise and talking to my tulpa while listening to it, I started to hear the tulpa out loud. I wish there was more to it than that, but that's really it.
  70.
  71. ---
  72.
  73. Possession
  74.
  75. Possession is where we get down to the spooky stuff. This is where your tulpa is able to control parts or all of your body. This is a general guide, so I probably won't be giving out a lot of information about this (and I don't really understand it all that well myself), but I'll try to explain it to the best of my ability.
  76.
  77. I went through possession with the "tulpa does all the shit" mindset, and this means that I just sat back, relaxed, and told my tulpa do try and move my muscles. Most people I know seem to do a symbolic thing for possession like having the tulpa "crawl into your body" or "pour their form into your body". Sounds dumb, sure, but it might work for you and your tulpa.

  83.
  84. Creator, Host, Tulpamancer
  85. An individual who has created a tulpa.
  86.
  87. Deviation
  88. When a tulpa changes in appearance or personality, oftentimes away from the host's original intentions.
  89.
  90. Forcing, Tulpaforcing
  91. Any interaction or communication with one's tulpa that can be considered beneficial for development. Can be done actively, focusing solely on the tulpa, or passively, doing something with but not necessarily focusing on the tulpa. Active tulpaforcing is more effective than passive tulpaforcing.
  92.
  93. Form
  94. The appearance of the tulpa.
  95.
  96. Imposition
  97. The act of voluntarily hallucinating a tulpa, perceiving it with physical senses.
  98.
  99. Mind's Eye
  100. Refers to the human ability for the experiencing of visual mental imagery; in other words, one's ability to "see" things with the mind. The use of the phrase mind's eye does not imply that there is a single or unitary place in the mind or brain where visual consciousness occurs.
  101.
  102. Mindvoice
  103. The internal voice of either the host or the tulpa, not to be confused with an imposed audible voice.
  104.
  105. Narration
  106. When the host speaks to or with their tulpa.
  107.
  108. Parallel Processing
  109. When the tulpa is able to focus and work on something independently from what the host is focused on.
  110.
  111. Parroting, Puppeting
  112. When a host consciously controls the speech or movement of their tulpa, often for very early developmental purposes.

  114. Possession
  115. When a tulpa controls a part of or all of their host's body.
  116.
  117. Proxying
  118. Relaying information for the tulpa to others, often seen in chat rooms where the tulpa is not skilled enough to possess, but still wishes to speak to others.

  120. Sentience
  121. The ability to feel, perceive, and experience subjectivity.
  122.

  125.
  126. Thoughtform
  127. A concept of a being made from thought, almost equivalent to a tulpa. Many people classify a tulpa as a type of thoughtform, where servitors and daemons may be other types.
  128.
