  3. Wow. That is a very good story
  4. ScuttlemonxToday at 2:23 PM
  5. Really, cause It was a really wierd read for me
  6. Like her writing style, and language
  7. Game2TeachToday at 2:24 PM
  8. I had to read part of it several times over (mostly because I just woke up and am a bit distracted by some things)
  9. I think her style is brilliant.
  10. Some of the words were a little advanced, but they are good vocab words
  11. ScuttlemonxToday at 2:25 PM
  12. The beginning of the essay is what confused me the most
  13. Game2TeachToday at 2:29 PM
  14. So the beginning is just talking about the moth
  15. explaining how the moth is insignificant basically- moths and butterflies are insignificant enough, but the hybrid of the two is like losing the few good qualities from both and just becoming some pointless creature
  16. then she says, even though the day moth is a pointless creature, it is still content with life. Then she starts explaining what she (and the moth) sees outside the window- all of the vivacity (liveliness) of the people working and horses working etc
  17. that transitions into the second paragraph explaining how it's the same energy compelling the people outside to do these great things also energized the moth to simply flutter around a window
  18. ScuttlemonxToday at 2:33 PM
  19. Oh the Day moth is a hybrid
  20. Game2TeachToday at 2:34 PM
  21. the third paragraph basically tell you straight up what Virginia Woolf is thinking: the day moth is so meaningless and pitiful, it is actually pure. In other words, it is so simplified that all it really has is life itself- nothing is beautiful or noteworthy about it other than the fact it is a living creature
  22. and for that reason, it is wonderful
  23. ScuttlemonxToday at 2:36 PM
  24. Ok so first paragraph he calls the moth useless, then she starts seeing the moth trying to live. But thinks it's pathetic. Thats a useless animal is trying to live
  25. Game2TeachToday at 2:36 PM
  26. the 4th paragraph explains how the moth, and even the workers outside, all became unnoticed in the monotony (plain, everyday routine) of life
  27. And then starts to show the first signs of death
  28. ummm 1 paragraph isn't about it being pathetic. It is just explaining what a day moth is, really, and how they are generally considered to be insignificant creatures
  29. ScuttlemonxToday at 2:39 PM
  30. Oh i mean in paragraph 2
  31. When she see's the moth trying it's hardest to escape
  32. Game2TeachToday at 2:39 PM
  33. pathetic means to arouse pity - pity is a very specific concept. This shows up in the story, but not until the 3rd paragraph
  34. ah, yes
  35. P 2
  36. Because the moth is ignorant to the fact it only lives such a short time, whereas, for example, a horse or human lives for many years.
  37. but the moth is still trying so hard to live just as the horses and humans do
  38. to be full of energy and stuff
  39. ScuttlemonxToday at 2:42 PM
  40. "The same energy which inspired the rooks, the ploughmen, the horses, and even, it seemed, the lean bare-backed downs, sent the moth fluttering from side to side of his square of the window-pane."
  41. Oh ok so like this
  42. Game2TeachToday at 2:43 PM
  43. in the 4th paragraph, too, she notices the moth struggling and goes to help it. There is something compelling about the moth trying to hard she wants the moth to succeed even if what the moth is doing is pointless. But then she realizes the moth is dying, and she pulls back to let the moth die
  44. ^good quote. It shows how life in the moth is the same as life in any other living being
  45. and this plays an important part later when it talks about the moth's purity mentioned in paragraph 3 mostly, but also in paragraph 2 and 6
  46. 2 and 5***
  47. something that may be helpful: use the function ctrl + f
  48. and search for key words
  49. I just did a search for "pur"
  50. so I would catch "pure" and "purity"
  51. this is a key concept in the essay, so I could find all examples of this by searching for it
  52. ScuttlemonxToday at 2:47 PM
  53. True, Life hacks
  54. Now that you've explained and pointed all this out
  55. It's become easier and more enjoyable to read the story
  56. Game2TeachToday at 2:48 PM
  57.
  58. ScuttlemonxToday at 2:48 PM
